Minute by Minute Report

1min: Wolves kick off the match aiming to return to the top flight for the first time in 19 seasons.
2mins:
Kenny Miller tries an ambitious shot from just outside the area but Paddy Kenny gathers the shot comfortably.
3mins: Michael Brown is unlucky not to gain a free kick on the edge of the box after a crunching challenge from Paul Ince.
4mins:
Brown tries a shot from 20 yards but the effort flies over the bar.
5mins: At the other end Nathan Blake rasps a shot just past Kenny's left hand post after some impressive build-up play. Great start to the game.
6mins:
GOAL KENNEDY! The Blades leave too much space at the back and Blake flicks on into the path of Kennedy and the Irishman blasts a sweet shot into the corner past Kenny. Advantage Wolves.
7mins:
The Blades look to hit back immediately as they push forward with Kabba on the right.
8mins: Blake shows neat trickery on the Wolves left as the West Midlands side aim to push home their advantage.
9mins:
Jagielka launches a long throw but the keeper punches it back into touch. Murray is forced into action a second time after a similar tactic.
10mins:
Again Blake is on the prowl in the area but is dispossessed by Curtis.
11mins: Kabba has obviously been given a free role by Neil Warnock - the young attacker is all over the field.
13mins:
United are piling the pressure on the Wolves goal but the leaders are looking dangerous on the break. Jagielka's attempted headed backpass does not find his keeper and the Blades have a lucky escape after some intelligent play from Kenny.
14mins: Blake is down inside the United half after a tussle with Jagielka but no foul is awarded. Play is temporarily suspended.
15mins:
Blake is back on the pitch and the ball is returned to Murray to restart the match.
16mins:
Play is really opening up at the Millenium. End-to-end stuff between the two rivals.
17mins:
Ndlovu curls a shot wide of goal.
18mins: The Blades are forcing Wolves to defend deep. Asaba and Kabba are seeing plenty of the ball but are yet to test Murray.
20mins: Ndlovu's mazy run is halted by a well-timed challenged from Denis Irwin.
21mins: Colin Cameron smashes a shot in from 25 yards forcing Kenny to make a great save.
22mins: GOAL BLAKE! The corner is drilled towards Ince, who flicks it into the path of Blake. The striker nods the ball past Kenny and over the line to give Wolves a 2-0 lead in Cardiff.
23mins: Wolves have been competent in defence and incisive on the break and deserve their lead. United are not out of this tie yet though.
25mins: Jagielka launches another long throw into the area but the Wolves defenders clear the danger.
26mins: An appalling goal kick from Murray flies into touch and the Blades can build another attack.
27mins: Miller is penalised for impeding Curtis just as he looks to set off on a break. United continue to push forward.
28mins: Some crunching challenges are going in in the middle of the park but referee Bennett is yet to reach for his pocket.
30mins: Half an hour gone in Cardiff, Wolves are in control of this one.
31mins: Wolves continue to look dangerous on the counter attack. United have yet to test keeper Murray.
32mins: Kabba wins a corner on the right from Lescott.
33mins:
Tonge appeals for another corner but the referee adjudges the shot took no deflection off Kennedy.
35mins: Curtis delivers a stunning cross into Kabba but Kabba cannot control the ball and the chance is wasted.
36mins: Miller is down in the centre of the field after colliding with Jagielka but the Wolves man can continue.
37mins: The ball is returned to Murray, who blasts it upfield.
38mins: Kabba is proving tricky down the right. He and Tonge combine to deliver the ball into the area whereupon Ince has to rely on Murray to keep out a certain own goal.
39mins: The United corner comes to nothing and Murray can launch the ball downfield once again.
40mins: Wolves are defending stoutly - the Blades keep pushing forward to no avail.
41mins: Brown and Kabba combine but Lescott gets a toe in to clear the danger once again.
42mins: A tough challenge from Irwin leaves Ndlovu squirming. The Irishman is rightly booked.
43mins: The Zimbabwean is back on his feet and Page is able to deliver the free kick.
44mins: The final ball has been of a poor standard too often for Neil Warnock's men. No doubt the manager will have something to say to his players at half time.
45mins: GOAL MILLER! Newton crosses into Miller, who is in acres of space and pokes the ball past Kenny to put Wolves 3-0 up as half time approaches.
45mins: Tonge's free kick from 30 yards forces an excellent save from Murray.
45mins: The referee blows for half time in an eventful and fiery match in which Wolves have taken their chances and deservedly lead 3-0.

HALF-TIME: SHEFF UTD 0-3 WOLVES.

46mins: Sheffield United begin the second half looking to get back in the match.
47mins: Referee Bennett awards a penalty against Wolves after Butler handles the ball in his own area.

56mins: Asaba is adjudged to have drifted offside in his eagerness to push forward.
57mins: Brown scuffs his shot from 20 yards, which poses no danger to Murray.
58mins: Approaching the hour mark in Cardiff, Wolves still hold a comfortable lead.

Post Match Comments

Dave Jones: "It’s been a magnificent day. We said all along that we could do it if we worked our socks off. This is a big, big prize. The players knew that and they handled the pressure well. We would have liked automatic promotion but this is a special way to go up. When I came here we were relegation fodder and now in two years we are in the Premiership. I am pleased for everybody at the club –and this might sound greedy – I’m pleased for me.
When I came into Wolves it wasn’t just about rebuilding a club, but about rebuilding my life. I’ve been building, not just to get into the Premiership, but to stay there. I’ve spoken to Neil but there’s nothing really that I could say that would console him.
We now have a hard job ahead of us. The players will expect me to strengthen."

Sir Jack: "Last season was a terrible disappointment but this has made up for it – seeing all our wonderful supporters out there. This has been a special, special day for us all."

Captain Paul Ince: "I never thought it would happen this season. It's unbelievable for the lads here, who need to be in the Premiership, and the fans, who need to be in the Premiership."

Mark Kennedy: "I didn't go into the game thinking 'I'm definitely going to score' but sometimes you get a funny feeling in the back of your mind, and I certainly had one on Monday.
"It's just luck but they went in and no-one can take that away from us.
"I was due a goal, to be fair. It's funny because when I played for Manchester City at Blackburn on the last day of the season in 2000 I had the same feeling that day and I scored and we got promoted.
"It's a big achievement for me. There was a lot of self-pride out there and it was for the club and the team but I wanted to do it for myself.
"It's my second promotion and it's nice to be able to say I've done it with two different clubs. It's great to say you've helped a team to the Premier League and now I want to stay there."

Nathan Blake: "I’m looking forward to getting back in the Premiership. It’s going to be a massive challenge for the whole club. West Bromwich Albion showed just how hard it is this season. Last year people wrote us off, it was hard for the players to take but we had to get our minds back on the job. The gaffer brought in a few players and we knew we had the team to do it. We proved we’ve got big hearts, we might have done it the hard way, but we’ve done it."

Kenny Miller: "We got the goals early which is a real help but the second half was hard because Sheffield gave it everything. This has been a hard way to win promotion, some people say it’s the best way. Seeing all our fans cheering us on today, it’s hard to argue that it isn’t. Since Christmas the team has played really well and we deserve this. Premiership football is why I came to this club and I can’t wait. It’s been a great day for the players, the fans and everybody involved with the club.
