Transfer Update

Wolves have, by mutual consent, cancelled the loan agreement and contract of Gui Finkler after he didn't play for the first team. The midfielder could now sign for top flight Belgium club Excelsior Mouscron, subject to an agreement with his parent club.
The 21-year-old Brazilian joined Wolves on a year long loan from Juventude in July after a successful trial at the club's pre-season training camp in Spain.

Defender Craig Fleming has also been released from his one-month loan at Wolves from Norwich. The 35-year-old today joined Rotherham on an 18 month contract. Fleming played just one game for Wolves in the 2-1 defeat against Cardiff.

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy said: "I couldn't be more proud of the players. We have been more than a little fortunate but we have come away with the three points.
"They battered us from the very first whistle and, if it had been four or five nil at half-time, we couldn't really have complained.
"We were poor in the first half but, after the break, we were excellent."

Team News

Norwich: manager Peter Grant is facing a defensive crisis ahead of the visit of Wolves, with Dion Dublin and Jason Shackell (both ankle) ruled out.
Therefore, Carl Robinson could be deployed as an emergency centre-half, while striker Chris Brown is suspended.

Wolves: manager Mick McCarthy could pair new signing Andy Keogh with returning striker Jay Boothroyd (thigh) up front.
Winger Michael Kightly will also return after being cup-tied on Sunday, but Jody Craddock is still not fit.

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy had no complaints about the result as Albion repeated their 3-0 win at The Hawthorns earlier in the campaign.
He said: "We were beaten by a better side, a better squad, a stronger team. I don't know how much money they've had from going up to the Premiership, coming back down, going up again, coming back down again, £70 million maybe?
"They are entitled to have a good side and I've said before anyone who finishes above them will have a chance of winning the Championship. Those thoughts haven't changed.
"I am disappointed we didn't compete better and have a better game with them but the first two goals we gave away just didn't give us a platform at all. They were better, no argument, no question.
"They have got a better squad. We are not as good as them. It is a lesson for us. My players have been brilliant all season, have played good football and competed but came up against a better side here.
"I am not happy about it but that's the level we have to get to."

Ticket Update

Wolves ticket office is reporting that the Steve Bull and Stan Cullis stands have now sold out.
The last few tickets remain in the Billy Wright upper wings and the family enclosure.
Ticket office phone lines are open until 7pm this evening and are taking bookings from supporters with an existing supporter number - up to four supporter numbers per call.
The office will also be open in the morning from 9am to 1pm for any supporters wanting to collect their tickets.
For fans collecting on matchday, the kiosk will be located outside the Stan Cullis Stand.

International Call Ups

Three Wolves players have been called up for international duty.

Striker Craig Davies is in the full Welsh squad to face Northern Ireland in a friendly at Windsor Park on Tuesday 6th February.
Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey who is currently on loan at Stockport is in the Wales under 21 squad, also to play Northern Ireland in Belfast on the same day.
Midfielder Seyi Olofinjana will travel to Brentford's Griffin Park for a friendly against Ghana, also on the 6th.

Street Closures

From WOW: Wolves supporters walking to the ground from the city centre for Sunday's Cup tie with West Bromwich (kick-off 12 noon) are advised to allow a little more time to do so than normal as the police are closing off areas adjacent to the Jack Harris Stand.

Albion supporters are located in the Jack Harris Stand for the game and to assist crowd control the police will close the subway under the ring road and restrict access from the city centre between Stafford Street and Waterloo Road as the clockwise carriageway of the ring road will also be closed.

Wolves fans will therefore be able to access Molineux from the centre by either Stafford Street from where they should turn left into Camp Street, or by Waterloo Road.

Molineux Street will be sectioned off at a point near the city end of the Steve Bull Stand (by the Feathers public house) and there will be no access to the ground via Whitmore Hill after 10am which is the cut off point for motorists parking in the Jack Harris Stand car park.

Likewise, drivers should be aware that the clockwise side of the ring road will be closed from the Chapel Ash island up to the Stafford Street junction (by Kwik Fit) from 10am.

Although Wolves fans accessing from the north by the Stan Cullis end of the ground should be largely unaffected whether on foot or by car, there is likely to be more congestion than usual because of the measures referred to above. The club's advice is therefore to ARRIVE EARLY.

The section of Waterloo Road that runs past the stadium will be completely closed to traffic from the final whistle until the majority of spectators have left the area.

All the above measures come into force at 10am (apart from the post match closure of Waterloo Road) and will be lifted as soon as practical after the match.

Loan Keeper Signed

Wolves have signed Doncaster Rovers goalkeeper Jan Budtz on a month's loan as cover for Matt Murray.
The emergency loan was sanctioned as two of the club's senior keepers have picked up injuries in training.
Earlier this week, Michael Oakes tweaked the medial ligament in his left knee and Carl Ikeme turned his ankle at Compton Park a fortnight ago.
Welsh under 21 international Wayne Hennessey is out on loan, to League Two Stockport County.

Boss Mick McCarthy said on WOW: "I'm very grateful to Jan and Doncaster for helping us out. It's pleasing to have him in as cover."
The 27-yard-old Danish keeper made 25 appearances for Rovers last season and has played six times in the current campaign.

Backer Revealed

The mystery backer behind the recent takeover bid fronted by Graeme Souness is revealed in this morning's press as being Brian Kennedy, the owner of Sale Sharks.
Last Thursday Wolves formally rejected his offer for the club.
Chief executive Jez Moxey said on WOW: "We have always known the identity of those involved and our position, which was stated last week, hasn't changed."

Black Country Derby Update

If this Sunday's match with West Brom ends in a draw, the replay will take place at the Hawthorns on Tuesday 13th February with a 7.45pm kick-off.
Normally replays take place ten days after the original fixture but, as that date would coincide with international matches, all replays have been moved to the following week.
If this does happen Wolves fans will be allocated the entire Smethwick End of the stadium which is approx 5,500 seats.

Fans are being warned that some roads around Molineux may be closed by the police for safety reasons in the hours building up to Sunday's FA Cup game.
There may also be restrictions on certain walkways near the stadium.
The police have advised Wolves they are currently in discussion with the Council and Highways Agency about potential closures.

Match On Sky

Wolves home game against Birmingham City has been put back 24 hours to be shown live on Sky TV.
The game was scheduled to be played on Saturday 21st April with a 12 noon kick off, but it will now take place on Sunday April 22 with the kick-off still at 12 noon.

23rd January 2007

Keogh Signs

Wolves today completed the signing of Scunthorpe United striker Andy Keogh.
He has scored seven goals this season including one in United's two all draw with Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.
Wolves have paid an initial £600,000 to Scunthorpe which could rise to £850,000 with add ons.

Apology To Season Ticket Holders

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has sent an apology to fans booted out of their Molineux seats in the Jack Harris Stand to make way for rivals West Brom this Sunday.
But Wolves' season-ticket holders forced to move from the stand are furious and have accused the club of 'selling out to the Albion' and of mistreating loyal fans with some also calling for Moxey's resignation.
Moxey has now written to all season-ticket holders in the Jack Harris Stand and as well as an apology, sent a voucher for a free pie and pint of beer (pop for kids) at Sunday's game.
Moxey said: "We should have been sensitive to the disappointment this decision would cause to a large number of loyal season ticket holders and for that we apologise.
"We should have been far more sympathetic to the situation and handled the communication of this decision to our supporters far more effectively."

21st January 2007

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy felt "robbed" by the defeat.
He said: "How do you think any manager would feel after watching his team run riot, create chance after chance after chance, hit the post and have a goal disallowed but still lose the game?
"I feel robbed when I should be waxing lyrical about having scored four or five goals.
"We will never play any better than that but we just have to finish off those chances.
"Craig Davies had a perfectly good goal disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper, but I did not see a foul.
"And was Michael Chopra offside for the first goal? Was it first phase? Was it second phase?
"I do not know any more because the law of offside is an ass.
"Overall it was a terrific performance from us but the atmosphere was rubbish."

Team News

Wolves: duo Rob Edwards and Gary Breen are suspended and centre-half Jody Craddock has an Achilles tendon injury.
Jackie McNamara has been hampered by a groin injury but Michael Kightly is available after being cup-tied for the midweek FA Cup win at Oldham.

Cardiff: Peter Whittingham is expected to make his full debut after appearing as a substitute against Southend.
But Paul Parry is still out while loan signing James Simmonds will play for the reserves before making his debut.

Transfer News

Wolves have raided fellow Championship side Norwich to sign defender Craig Fleming on loan.
The Black Country club had been on the lookout for defensive cover and Norwich have acceded to their request to take Fleming on loan.
The 35-year-old has been cleared to figure against Cardiff and can also play in the FA Cup, but The Canaries have stipulated that he cannot feature against them at the end of January.

Mark Little has signed a new contract that will keep him at Molineux until the summer of 2010.
The 18-year-old Academy graduate has impressed in the right-back position since he broke into the first team in August and is due to represent England at under 19 level against Poland next month.

18th January 2007

Potter Signs

Wolves have completed the permanent signing of Liverpool midfielder Darren Potter.
Boss Mick McCarthy has handed the Irish youngster a long-term deal after impressing since moving to Molineux on loan in August.
Potter leaves Anfield for a reported fee of around £250,000 after making just 17 first team appearances for The Reds.

Souness Bid Rejected

Wolves have rejected a takeover proposal from Graeme Souness.
They announced the £20million offer is 'significantly below proposals already put forward by other parties'.
Former Newcastle manager Souness revealed his intention to buy the Black Country club earlier this month after putting together a consortium.
Contrasting statements from Souness and Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey followed, before the Scot firmed up his initial interest with a written offer.
Though that offer was rejected, Wolves' claim that other parties have made sizeable bids suggests Sir Jack Hayward's ownership of the club could soon be at an end.

17th January 2007

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy hailed Darren Potter after the midfielder's first senior goal set up a 2-0 win at Oldham that earned his side an FA Cup fourth-round tie with rivals West Brom.
McCarthy revealed Potter, who is on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool, is on the verge of signing a permanent deal with the Molineux club.
Craig Davies added a second from Rohan Ricketts' cross to break League One Oldham and seal a mouth-watering home clash with the Baggies, although McCarthy prefers to concentrate on the league until then.

He said: "Apparently while I was off with flu we drew West Brom in the cup and David Beckham's going to the LA Galaxy. I missed all of that!
"We've got Cardiff on Saturday and I know that's the boring manager's mantra but that's the truth of it.
"There will be a big build-up to it and I'm sure it'll be played at a ridiculous time!"

McCarthy is delighted to have 22-year-old Potter, who drove in from 25 yards to open the scoring, close to pledging his future to the club.
But he acknowledged that Wolves did not have it all their own way and Potter could have given away a penalty for a challenge on Richie Wellens just before the opening goal.

"When it came to him, he didn't half nail it and it was a fabulous strike," McCarthy continued.
"He's been terrific and what epitomises him is that he came over and did a great job on the right side and did his shift.
"We've agreed the fee and that's not going to change and we've got an agreement with Darren. I'm very pleased if that's the case.
"The penalty was a contentious decision and at the time I thought he got away with it but I have to say the assistant referee on the far side had the best view and didn't give it.

He added: "It was a poor first-half performance and Oldham were better than us and we were fortunate to go in at 0-0.
"It was much better in the second half."

Clarke is not eligible to play in the midweek FA Cup replay at Manchester City, but could make his Owls debut at home to Sunderland on Saturday.

Match Reaction

Neill Collins put the visitors ahead at the Britannia Stadium but were denied victory over one of the clubs rivalling them for a play-off place when Clint Hill equalised late on.
McCarthy said: "I was very pleased with our all-round performance.
"I would have taken a point before the game, but having got so close to winning, I'm slightly disappointed with the result.
"We were comfortable after we scored and I felt the only way Stoke would get back at us would be through a set-piece, and that proved the case."

Transfers Update

Wolves have had a bid accepted for Bohemians striker Stephen Ward.
The Republic of Ireland Under 21 international has been on trial at Molineux and has impressed manager Mick McCarthy in training.
Wolves returned to the player's Irish club with an undisclosed bid and the player will now discuss personal terms with the Championship outfit.

Wolves remain hopeful of signing Falkirk forward Alan Gow despite Rangers entering the race for his signature.
Both Wolves and Rangers have seen bids rejected by Falkirk but remain keen to sign a player who has entered the last six months of his contract.
Wolves assistant boss Ian Evans has revealed the 24-year-old was due to visit Molineux on Wednesday, only to call off the trip as new Rangers manager Walter Smith entered the bidding.

Wayne Hennessey is to going on loan to Stockport County until 10th February.
The 19-year-old keeper is now fully recovered from the shoulder injury that brought a swift end to his loan spell at Bristol City at the start of the season.

Club Makes Statement

Statement from Wolves Chief Executive Jez Moxey.
"I can confirm that following the signing of confidentiality agreements this evening, we have now received a formal written offer for the Club on behalf of Graeme Souness and others. Both parties have agreed not to make any further public comments."

Takeover Rumour

Wolves have denied they are in negotiations with Graeme Souness over a possible takeover of the Championship club.
A newspaper report on Tuesday claimed the former Rangers, Liverpool and Newcastle manager had held talks with Wolves owner Sir Jack Hayward, who had previously announced he will relinquish control of the club if an investor will pump £20million into team building.

But a statement from Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: "It is not true that we are in negotiations with Graeme Souness or anyone connected to him.
"Had the reporter called us to verify his story I would have told him that. However, we do not want to conduct our business through the media and, as is company policy, will only comment on important matters when we have something substantive to report."

FA Cup Draw

If Wolves do make it through to the forth round the match will be played on either the 27th or 28th of January.

Transfer Update

Wolves have placed striker Leon Clarke on the transfer list.
The 21-year-old will have his name circulated to other clubs after falling down the pecking order at Molineux.
Despite having 18 months left on his contract with Wolves, both McCarthy and Clarke have agreed to alert interested clubs regarding the striker's availability this month.

Falkirk have confirmed they have rejected a bid from Wolves for prized asset Alan Gow.
The 24-year-old forward is being tracked by a host of clubs and is being linked with a move during this month's transfer period.
Mick McCarthy's outfit have long been linked and now Falkirk have confirmed they have shunned a bid from Wolves.

"Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club have made an offer for the immediate transfer of Alan Gow," said a club statement.
"The offer has been rejected as Falkirk Football Club remain committed to securing Alan on a longer contract and are continuing to have discussions with him."

Terry Smith is likely to figure as substitute goalkeeper now loan Adam Legzdins has returned to Birmingham.

Collins Signs Permanent Deal

23-year-old Neill Collins today signed a three and a half year contract, sealing his move from Sunderland. The initial fee of £150,000 could reach £250,000 dependent on appearances and possible promotion for Wolves.
Neill has had to be patient in waiting for his chance in the first team, he's been on loan at Molineux since the beginning of November. It wasn't until injury ruled Jody Craddock out of the post Christmas programme that Neill got his chance and now the defender is keen to establish himself in the side.
The has set his sights on keeping his first team place now that his move to Wolves has been confirmed.

He said on WOW: "I'm delighted everything is sorted now. I've been here for a while on loan but now I can focus on the future - not just for this season but beyond that.
"It's been a frustrating period for me because I came here from Sunderland wanting to play but have only recently got into the team. I spoke to the manager a couple of times about it but I think he would have questioned my motivation if I hadn't been frustrated.
"I knew that I was coming into a team where the two central defenders were in good form but I kept telling myself to be patient because whilst Jody and Breeny have been brilliant so far, they aren't super human and sooner or later I knew I would get a chance.
"The manager can't afford to have too many passengers at this level and he kept telling me I'd have a role and to just be patient.
"Having got the opportunity against Derby, it really opened my eyes to what a good team we have here - and great fans. I really enjoyed my debut.
"I think from what I've seen we can compete for promotion this year, but the manager isn't just building for this season but for the future as well.
"Jody and Breeny are key players for Wolves but the gaffer wants competition for places and I'd like to think I strengthen the squad.
"I've got to make it hard for Jody to win his place back and that will be to the benefit of the team."

Loans Update

Stephen Gleeson's loan to Stockport County has been extended by a further month.
The midfielder moved to Stockport in November and has played in all nine League games and two FA Cup played by the League Two club since his arrival.
The 19-year-old said: "I have really enjoyed myself with Stockport and the experience of playing first team football has been a great benefit to me.
"It's a difficult League to play in as you don't get a lot of time on the ball. But I'm learning all the time and am happy to stay for another month."

Cheltenham have re-signed Wolves defender Keith Lowe on loan until the end of the season to provide cover if Brian Wilson chooses to leave.
The 21-year-old is now set for a second spell at Whaddon Road after first joining the Robins on an emergency loan between September and November last year.
Boss John Ward told the club's official website: "Keith can play anywhere along the back four and what I've tried to do is get some cover in to deal with the position if Brian Wilson leaves us."

Jones Injury Update

Wolves youngster Daniel Jones is set for a spell on the sidelines if a visit to a specialist confirms that his groin injury requires surgery.
He is travelling to Germany today and he will undergo an operation there if necessary.

Physio Barry Holmes explained on WOW: "Daniel complained of pain in his groin two days before Christmas.
"When initial treatment and rest didn't resolve the situation, it was decided that he should see a hernia specialist in Munich.
"The likelihood is that he will require surgery and, if that is the case, then he will stay in the clinic for a couple of days and return to Molineux sometime next week.
"The reason we have chosen to use this particular clinic is because it uses a less invasive technique that isn't currently available in this country.
"It gives the player the chance to get back into action sooner. All being well Daniel should be back in full training in three weeks time."

Murray Wins Award

Matt Murray has been awarded the PFA Coca Cola Championship Fans' Player of the Month award for December.
The Wolves keeper has featured in every league game so far this season, will be presented with his prize at a forthcoming game.
During the month he kept clean sheets against Southend, QPR and Derby.

He said on WOW: "It's nice to get an award but credit goes to the lads. They played really well in those games where I kept a clean sheet. We defended from the front and that makes things easy for me.
"We had a good win against Barnsley on Monday that has kept us in touch. We are just a point off the play-off places and have got some big games coming up this month.
"Stoke and Cardiff will be massive games but the target is to get into the top six and stay there."

Match Reaction

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy believes his side are genuine promotion contenders after watching them overturn Coca-Cola Championship rivals Barnsley 2-0 at Molineux.
That result lifted Wolves one place to ninth in the Championship table and they now lie only one point outside the play-off places.

McCarthy said: "We want to get promoted, there is no point dressing that up.
"We want to be in the promotion shake-up at the end of the season.
"Is that realistic? Well, we are one point outside the play-offs and on our day we can match anyone."

Wolves captain Karl Henry and fellow midfielder Seyi George Olofinjana were the players on target as McCarthy's men overcame the visitors.
