Wolves boss Dave Jones said after Wolves 0-0 draw with Watford: "He didn't want to come off (Paul Ince), but why drain the batteries completely?

"The lads were shattered after the game and some were shattered during it.
"They ran themselves into the ground and I couldn't have asked any more tonight.
"I thought they were absolutely magnificent. We just needed a goal to give us another gear."

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Dave Jones said: "I'm sure Kenny was just happy to score and not worried about breaking a record. He is on fire at the moment. I believe Berti was here so he hasn't done himself any harm.
"It doesn't matter who scores. So long as we win the game, it doesn't mean anything. At the end of the day it is just a goal on statistics.
"We said at half-time 'just up the tempo and let's go at them'. We we got 2-0 up I thought we upped the tempo even more and really closed them down.
"It is getting a little bit of a trademark for him (Ndah). He did it against Leicester.
"With the pace he has got any defence is going to back off and I'm sure Craig Brown will be disappointed they backed off too far."

Butler Injury Update

Paul Butler's x-ray has shown no serious damage to his ribs after his crunching clash with Matt Murray during Wolves’ 4-2 victory at Portman Road last night.
Butler was substituted at half-time after he got tangled with Matt Murray, when the Wolves keeper came out to make a clearance.

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Dave Jones sang the praises of his players after their impressive 4-2 win at play-off contenders Ipswich.
The Black Country side twice fought back from behind before sinking one of their main rivals for a coveted top-six spot.
Jones said: "We didn't start too brightly but got a grip on the game in the second half. Our second goal was probably the most important because it gave us a great lift and also deflated them.
"We're two clubs with similar expectations so this was a massive result for us.
"We said before the game that whoever won the midfield battle would go on to win the game and I think it's fair to say that they edged it in the first half and us in the second.
"The game was all about personal battles across the pitch and it's fair to say we came out on top."

17th February 2003

Quarter Final Draw

Wolves have drawn Southampton away in the quarter final of the FA Cup, it will be played on the 8th or 9th of March.

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Dave Jones was relieved but also frustrated as his side reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, he said: "For the first 45 minutes Rochdale must have thought there were 22 of us on the pitch but we could not kill them off.
"We said at half-time 'Go and take their hopes away' but we didn't do it and got caught out and they got themselves back in the game.
"It was disappointing that we lost our composure and shape for 15-20 minutes when it was 1-1 and our discipline also went.
"But I don't think anyone can complain about the final result and if we had got a second goal in the first half then I think it would have been good night for them a lot quicker.
"But we are into the quarter-finals and I always felt if we got that composure back then we would be okay."

Blake Scores in Cup Return

Wolves striker Nathan Blake returned to competitive action on Wednesday playing 45 minutes in the 3-1 Birmingham Cup win over Hednesford, and got the first goal. An own-goal from Anthony Maguire gave Wolves their second, Stewart Aidrie's close-range effort pulled one back for Hednesford but Pollet headed into goal and secured Wolves place in the semi-final.
Blake dislocated two toes and damaged foot ligaments when Wolves drew at Portsmouth in November but is now finally nearing full fitness and a return to the first-team.
Blake said to WOW: "I’m just happy to be back.
"I’ve got a few aches and pains and I’ll probably feel stiff in the morning but it’s worth it now that I’m playing again.
"The foot started to feel a bit sore in the final ten minutes of the half so I thought it best not to over do things. But there has been no serious reaction.
"It was very cold out there and I’ve noticed during training that the colder the weather the more I feel the injury.
"Like any other footballer, I hate being sidelined and the last three months haven’t been the best for me.
"Now I’ve got my sights set on getting back into the first team and who knows, I might be involved in Sunday’s game with Rochdale."
"The goal was a bit of a bonus and it was nice to get it. I’ll take them any way they come."

Fixture Update

Wolves match at Norwich on Easter Monday (April 21st) is to be shown live on Sky, so the match will now kick off at 5.35pm instead of 3pm.

Ticket News

Yesterday Wolves ticket office had one of their busiest days in recent years for the FA Cup fifth round tie with Rochdale at Molineux on Sunday evening. They sold a total of 3,694 via the ticket hotlines or over the counter, that's more than any other time since the computerised ticketing systems were installed almost ten years ago.

Wolves are again going to rewarded loyal fans by freezing season ticket prices again under the 'early bird' scheme for existing holders.
The decision is a repeat of the scheme introduced last season which saw more than 14,000 supporters renew their seats at existing rates.
Wolves have 18,312 season ticket holders, a total which has helped average attendances rise to their highest level for seven years. Fans must renew before March 14th to pay this season's normal retail price.
Chief executive Jez Moxey said "I think this is a great offer.
"The offer - for existing season ticket holders only - is: Buy next season's ticket on or before March 14 and you will pay this season's price.
"The prices of season tickets next season will rise irrespective of what division we play in, and increase considerably if promotion is achieved, so supporters who buy before March 14 will definitely make a saving."

JJ's First Cap

Wolves midfielder JJ Melligan is set to get his first cap for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s when they face Scotland at Kilmarnock today and is also celebrating his 21st birthday.
Melligan is currently on loan with Third Division Kidderminster Harriers.
Wolves boss Dave Jones said: "We are particularly pleased for JJ. It's great news.
"He's doing well at Kidderminster and playing at international level will certainly do him no harm.
"It's a great honour for him."

Youth Results

Wolves under 19s lost 2-0 at Middlesbrough on the weekend. Middlesbrough scored after five minutes after a mistake in the Wolves defence, and got their second a minute into the second half.

Ivar Out On Loan

Ivar Ingimarsson has joined Brighton on a months loan and completed his first training session with the club today. The Icelandic international has made 15 appearances for Wolves so far this season and scored two goals. But has dropped down the pecking order since the arrival of Paul Ince and Colin Cameron’s return from injury, the deal will keep the midfielder at the Withdean Stadium until the 9th March.
Ivar said on WOW: "I am looking forward to playing first team football again. I have trained today and it went well so now I just need to settle in and get to know everyone.
"I am already familiar with the area because Brighton is only half an hour from where I lived when I was at Brentford and of course I know the manager, which is a bonus.
"I am hoping that this will be a good experience for me and that the chance of more regular first team football will make me a better player.
"Hopefully, playing with Brighton will maybe create chances for me back at Wolves because everything I do is aimed at getting into the first team there.
"I am a Wolves player and I obviously want to play for my club and I’m sure that if the manager needs me then I’ll be here ready.

International Update

Wolves youngsters Matt Murray and Joleon Lescott have been named in the England under 21s squad playing Italy on Tuesday at the Stadium of Marble in Carrara.
Wolves winger Mark Kennedy has pulled out of the Republic of Ireland’s squad for Wednesday’s international against Scotland at Hampden Park because of injury. Kennedy played the full match at Brighton on Saturday but a tightening of his hamstring meant he couldn’t join up with his international teammates.

9th February 2003

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Dave Jones criticised his side for making too many sloppy individual mistakes and had no excuses for his side's shocking display.
He insisted it was not a case of Brighton being taken too lightly.
He said: "What killed us was sloppy individual mistakes. We had chances before Brighton scored, but it seems when we have an off day we do it in spectacular fashion.
"When Brighton opened the scoring we let a basic error affect us. We didn't do our job, didn't take our chances and didn't battle until Brighton looked like running away with it.
"Nobody can get away with it in this match. We felt the preparation was right, but we allowed the first goal to ruffle our feathers."

Reserves Game Off

Wolves reserves match at Oldham has been called off because of the freezing weather. Wolves could have gone top of the Avon Insurance Premier Division table if they had carried on their winning streak.

3rd February 2003

Injury Update

Wolves striker George Ndah is going to visit to Dean Sturridges doctor to see if can get him fit as quick as possible. Ndah said on the Official site WOW: "The club is fixing me up an appointment to have my case reviewed by the same doctor that played a part in getting Dean fit again.
"It’s been a real kick in the teeth to get this just when I was doing so well.
"It all started during training the day before the Wimbledon game. I managed to get through that but I was really feeling it against Leicester, which is why I came off.
"I was still hopeful of making it for the Wednesday game but I had a fitness test on Friday morning and almost right away I knew there was a problem and that I wouldn’t be able to travel.
"I was sent off for a scan which has showed some bulging in a disk in my back which is affecting my hamstring. I’ll have to wait until I’ve seen the specialist before I can say how long I’ll be out."
"I had to follow the game on Sky TV, obviously I was delighted for the lads but very disappointed that I wasn’t there to share it."

Shaun Newton will be missing training for the next couple of days, he's suffering from a knee problem that was caused by training on the hard ground at Compton last week due to the weather.

Adam Proudlock also took a knock on his ankle during Wolves 4-0 victory over Sheff Wed. He is still training and should be ok.

2nd February 2003

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Dave Jones said after match: "What we needed to do was give him games and we needed to send him somewhere where we knew he would get good football.
"I know Chris Turner (Sheff Wed manager) and I knew he would deal with him right and he would be able to get him up to the pace needed to play first division football.
"That's what he got with Wednesday, with the bonus that he scored a couple of goals, but then I needed him to come back because I only have George and Kenny fit, which meant he was still down the pecking order.
"But then we lost George, which gave Adam his chance and he has taken it really well and we are all really pleased for him.
"He has been through a tough time over the last few months, but now that's out of the way we are seeing him back to the form we know he is capable of.
"But we want more from him. I don't think he is anywhere near the standard we know he can achieve.
"He is a young boy learning his trade and the goals wont do any harm whatsoever."
