Molineux Sold Out

Wolves have sold out of tickets for Wednesday's second leg of the play-off semi-final at Molineux against Norwich. The last tickets were snapped up yesterday.

Match Reaction

The Wolves boss was not impressed by yesterday's referee he said: "I thought he was absolutely atrocious," said Jones, the news that Furnandiz was to retire after the play-offs coming as little comfort."
"I don't know how I end up with four bookings and I will go as far as to say he is not physically fit to referee in this division or any division."
"He was running around there like an old tug boat."
"The referee did not cost me the game or anything like that, but at this level you have to be fit - and he is not fit."
"It wasn't a dirty game. I don't think there has been one bad tackle in the 90 minutes and yet I have ended up with four bookings - that I don't understand."
"But I am not blaming him for the result. They got the result and they got the goals."
"But you talk about having fit referees and professional referees, he is a prime example that he needs to be fitter."
"And if they do a referee's test, then I would like to be there when he does it because he was tugging away there."
Jones was also less than impressed with Norwich printing directions to the Millennium Stadium in the match programme."
Asked if he thought the feature "smacked of arrogance", Jones replied: "It certainly did, but we did not take our opportunity."
"Now we have an opportunity on Wednesday night to put that right."
"We will have fantastic support and everyone behind us - and we have to turn the tables on them now."

Autumn, Winter and Spring!!!!!

Wolves midfielder Keith Andrews will be out for three months after undergoing surgery yesterday on a troublesome knee injury. If his recovery goes as planned he's expected to return for the start of next season.
Striker George Ndah is also set for surgery on his double hernia, while Wales international Carl Robinson is still on the road to recovery after knee surgery.
Dave Jones is confident that winger Mark Kennedy will be back to full fitness for this weekend's play-off clash with Norwich and Jones could also include fit again Kevin Muscat tot he side, he was banned for 3 games then forced out with an Achilles injury

Michael Branch has returned to Molineux after his months loan to Reading. The striker made just two substitute appearances for them.

Loan Players Return

On loan defender Jacob Laursen has returned to Leicester after he didn't make an appearance during his loan spell at Molineux.
Laursen left Leicester for Wolves before the transfer deadline and is now likely to return to his native Denmark where a clutch of clubs are keen to land him.
City boss Micky Adams does not see the experienced defender as part of his plans for next season and manager Dave Jones has decided not to keep him for the play-off campaign.

Striker Colin Larkin has returned to Molineux following his eight month loan with Kidderminster, he says the experience has been of a tremendous benefit to him. He played 35 times for Harriers and scored seven goals.

23rd April 2002

Sir Jack to Stay

Sir Jack Hayward has said he will remain in control at Molineux next season even if Wolves don't make it to the Premiership. It was thought at the start of this season he was having one last go at getting Wolves promoted when he gave manager Dave Jones a £15 million transfer kitty, taking his spending on the club to around £50 million.
He said: "I will still be here even if we are in Division One again. No-one has been calling for the head of the chairman!"

Golden Bonus

Wolves players could get a £1m bonus if they get through the play-offs and reach the Premiership. The board of directors changed the club’s bonus structure and approved the reward at the start of the season, it could see first team regulars like Michael Oakes receiving a £60,000 bonus because the playing staff will share the pool based on appearances.

Chief executive Jez Moxey who negotiated the terms of the ‘golden’ bonus with a group of senior pros said: "We wanted the bonus scheme to reward success. So, with the players agreement, we did away with win or draw bonuses if the team were outside the top six, and increased the payments, compared to previous years, if they were."
"We also offered a one-off carrot of £1m if they secured promotion."
"It’s a lot of money to pay but we would be happy to do it as we would have achieved our top flight ambition."

The sum of around £60,000 per player on offer is in addition to any bonus individual players would receive as a part of their own specific contracts.

Match Reaction

Dave Jones said after yesterday's match: "I was perhaps wondering what to say to the players to lift them after the game, but when they went back out onto the pitch to applaud our fans, seeing all those supporters has lifted them."
"But now we have to do it the hard way - it's as simple as that. I don't feel I will have to say anything to them because I am sure they will lift themselves anyway for the games with Norwich."
"At the end of the day our performance was irrelevant, but the one thing I know is that the players gave their all. I couldn't have asked for anything more."
"It would have been difficult as a player to keep going and going knowing West Brom were 2-0 in front.
"But all credit to my players because that is exactly what they did do and so I know character-wise I have no problems with them whatsoever."
Jones added: "Myself and my staff are very positive and we are not going to throw away a full season by not coming in and remaining positive."
"The first person the players see is either myself or one of my staff and if we are down, then they are going to be down, so we have to keep a positive outlook."

2 Day's To Go

Alex Rae will be captaining Wolves against Shefield Wednesday because Paul Butler is suspended.
He said: "It's all boiled down to Sunday's games and there's going to be a lot of tension in both teams."
"But I think West Brom will be under most pressure. They know that if they win, they'll take second place. We can only do our best and wait to see what's happening at The Hawthorns."
"It would be bad enough to lose out on promotion, but to miss out to West Brom of all teams would be awful for the fans and players alike."

Wolves Drop to Third

Wolves dropped down to third place and out of an automatic promotion place after West Brom drew with Rotherham to take them one point above Wolves. He said: "I’m delighted to have been selected for the squad again. It’s an honour to play for England at any level."

Crisis Meeting

Wolves Chief executive Jez Moxey is traveling  to London to join chairmen and chief executives of all the Nationwide First Division clubs in a meeting to discuss the current crisis in football that has come about following collapse of ITV Digital.

Jez said: "We are all concerned about the problems facing ITV Digital and it’s important that we discuss the situation in detail.
"I therefore welcome the opportunity to try and establish the Football League’s legal position in relation to the contracts with ITV Digital and, in particular, its parent companies – Granada PLC and Carlton PLC.
"I have also had the opportunity to speak with the Football Association and the Premier League and they too are very concerned and are prepared to assist, where they can, in helping find a suitable solution.
"This problem is a problem for everyone in football and not just the Nationwide League clubs."

Match Reaction

Dave Jones said after the match yesterday: "No matter what happens this afternoon, we will still be in second spot tonight."
"We are disappointed today, but we’ve worked all season for this and we’re going to carry on. We won’t throw it away now."
"The goals were sloppy ones to give away. The first came off a defender (Butler) and we gave the ball away on the edge of the area for the second."
"We won the ball well enough but it was the final pass around the box that let us down. We lost our discipline a bit."
"It wasn’t a game with lots of chances - although Oakes was the busier of the two keepers."
