Team News

Norwich: should welcome back England goalkeeper Robert Green for the home match against Wolves.
Green has been out since injuring his ankle in the warm-up to the clash with Sheffield Wednesday on April 15, but the World Cup hopeful is expected to play on Sunday.
That will mean a return to the bench for Scotland international Paul Gallacher, who has impressed in Green's absence.
Darren Ward (back), Matthieu Louis-Jean (hamstring) and Youssef Safri (gall bladder) are all out, but Peter Thorne could return after missing the 1-0 win at Cardiff.

Wolves: Matt Murray could be in line for a late season return to Wolves first team squad after being recalled from his loan with Tranmere.
The goalkeeper checked in for training with his Wolves colleagues today after Glenn Hoddle decided he needed cover following last weekend's injury to Stefan Postma, and with Michael Oakes suffering from an illness.
Midfielder Denes Rosa could play some part for Wolves.
The Hungarian has been missing since sustaining a groin injury more than a month ago, but has been working his way back to full fitness with the reserves.
Midfield duo Paul Ince and Darren Anderton are likely to remain sidelined by hamstring problems and Mark Clyde is also expected to sit out the clash after suffering a partially dislocated jaw on the training ground.

Ndah Retires

Wolves striker George Ndah has decided to retire with immediate effect after a series of injuries over the past two seasons.
This season he made 16 first team appearances - ten coming on as a substitute, and he scored one goal which came in the televised match at Derby County's Pride Park.
In all, George totaled 92 first team appearances (40 as a substitute) and he scored 19 goals.
His last game was for the reserves against Aston Villa at Telford earlier this month when he scored in a 3-1 defeat.

He said on WOW: "I have been thinking about it (retiring) for quite a while. I got the injury against Sheffield Wednesday and I was on the stretcher thinking 'oh my God - I can't believe this is happening again'.
"I got through that and then when I got back training my knee wasn't feeling that great and it was swollen when I played a couple of reserve games.
"We came to the decision that I needed a minor operation over the summer in any case. Then, as I trained each day the swelling was just increasing.
"I told Baz (physio Barry Holmes) that I needed to see a specialist and so I went to Cardiff to see my good friend John Fairclough who told me that the knee hadn't recovered from the original injury and if I were to continue then in later life I could be crippled.
"When you hear things like that then it all comes into perspective. I love football but it's not worth that.
"I spoke to the gaffer and Jez once I came away from seeing the specialist and told them what had been said. The gaffer told me to go away and think on it for a few days to know that I was sure of my decision, as you're a long time retired.
"But after I'd done that I still felt the same and so here I am, having announced the fact that I am retiring.
"When you're young, all you want to do is play football but for me now the injuries are hampering that to the point where I'm not enjoying it anymore.
"Even when I play a game my recovery is much longer now - it'll take me two or three days to get back to where you need to be, which makes it difficult to train every day.
"The gaffer understood my situation and he looked after me - that's why I have played a few games this season.
"I have been a pro for 14 years, I have met some fantastic people, I have played at some great stadiums and no one can take that away from me. I am very grateful for what I have achieved and what I have done.
"Football moves on, and we have got a very good squad here. We have underachieved this year and the boys will be looking to put that right next season.
"I like to think that I have always played to the best of my ability and I think the fans have appreciated that over the years. From my first game against Port Vale to my last one this season, the fans have been fantastic.
"That is something I'll never forget and the fans here will always have a special place in my heart, along with the fans at Crystal Palace who have always been good to me.
"It was a dream move for me to come from Swindon to come to such a big club like Wolves. My whole family came up and I had a box for them to see me make my debut.
"Wolves had been out of the top flight for 19 years and I was a part of the team that got them back up there. I would have liked to have been able to see what I could do in the Premier League but it wasn't to be.
"I have got a few things in the pipeline that I am looking at now that my playing days are over. I don't really want to talk about stuff until it materialises.
"Football is a small community and I intend to stay in touch with many people both here and at my previous clubs.
"The hard thing is going to be not coming in and seeing the boys every day and being part of the banter. I have been involved in that environment since I left school and so it will be difficult getting used to being away from it.
"But at least I can now eat what I want, drink what I want and go on holiday when I want!
"Football is a massive part of my life, but I have a new life now and I am really looking forward to it."

Reserves Lose

Wolves reserves slipped to a fourth consecutive defeat after a late fightback against Manchester City was only rewarded with what turned out to be a consolation goal from Vio Ganea.

With 12 minutes gone Mna City took the lead. Lee Croft fired in a centre from the right and Bradley Wright-Phillips, unmarked on the edge of the six-yard box, powered a header into the net via the inside of a post.
Their second came in the 64th minute, Danny Mills' free-kick had bounced off the wall into the path of Michael Johnson who hit a fierce 20-yard shot past Carl Ikeme.
Ganea finally gave the home supporters in the small crowd something to cheer about in the 82nd minute when he drilled a low free-kick from 25-yards out through the wall and into the net off the inside of the post.

Wolves Reserves: Ikeme, McNamara (Riley 64), Jones, Gleeson, Craddock, Little, Bennett, Rosa, Ganea, Ferran, Ricketts (Salmon 45).

Changes At Molineux

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle is preparing for a busy summer in the transfer market, insisting it will be "a different Wolves" next season.
The former England manager has received criticism from supporters this season after missing out on a play-off place - but the Molineux boss is already focusing on next season.
He said on WOW: "Without doubt there will be comings and goings but I can't go in to details until I know what money there will be.
"But it will be a different Wolves next season and expectations will have to change."

PFA Divisional Awards

The Professional Footballers' Association divisional awards for 2006 have been announced as part of the end of season ceremony.
After collating votes from thousands of players in England the PFA have revealed the teams of the year.
Wolves defender Joleon Lescott made The Championship team of the year:

Marcus Hahnemann (Reading), Gary Kelly (Leeds), Ibrahmia Sonko (Reading), Joleon Lescott (Wolves), Nicky Shorey (Reading), Ashley Young (Watford), Steve Sidwell (Reading), Phil Jagielka (Sheff United), Jason Koumas (Cardiff), Marlon King (Watford), Kevin Doyle (Reading).

Ince Wants To Carry On

Wolves captain Paul Ince has decided to shelve plans to retire to play on for another season.
The former England international was expected to hang up his boots at the end of the season after announcing plans to quit.
However, Ince has opted to play on and is hoping to be given the chance to help Wolves to promotion next season after a disappointing campaign this term.
"If I had let the team down this year I would have knocked it on the head, but I feel I have done okay and see no reason why I can't continue playing," said Ince.
"If the club wants me to, then I am fully prepared to give it another year to help Wolves get to where they should be."
Ince's current deal expires in the summer and it remains to be seen if the club will offer him a new contract.

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle is determined to make the Molineux boo boys eat their words.
With Wolves hopes of promotion to the Premiership in ruins after they failed to make the play-offs, fans vented their frustration despite Brighton being beaten 1-0 in their final home fixture of this season.
Kenny Miller scored the only goal of the game after converting a 31st-minute penalty awarded when Paul McShane was adjudged to have handled Mark Kennedy's corner.
But Wolves were nevertheless booed off at half-time and full-time while chants of "sack the board" and "we want Hoddle out" also rang around the stadium.

But Hoddle said: "As manager you take sole responsibility for results and you have to take fans' reaction on the chin.
"I understand the supporters want the club to do well and that they're not happy but I'm made of stern stuff and hearing things like that just makes me more determined.
"The only way to turn around a crowd like that is with better results and hearing the reaction we've had just makes me more determined to get those results.
"But what I don't like is that it's seeping through to the players.
"Some of the chants and some of the reaction to certain players doesn't help us.
"It affects you as a player, it affects your performances, so I've spoken about it to the players concerned.
"I know the supporters are frustrated, but we all are.
"And to be honest, I think the reaction would have been the same had we got to the play-off semi-finals and lost, or even reached the final and lost.
"That's the frustration at not being in the Premiership."

Hoddle also defended the signing of Polish international Tomasz Frankowski who cost £1.4million from Spanish side Elche but has yet to find the back of the net in 16 appearances.
He said: "Tomasz has been here three-and-a-half months and it hasn't worked out as we would have liked, that's for sure.
"He's been big enough to come out and admit going so long without a goal has affected him mentally.
"But this boy is a goal machine and to be honest he's a better player than I thought he was when we signed him."

Team News

Wolves: Utility man Jackie McNamara could make his first-team comeback from cruciate knee ligament injury.
The Scot has been missing from senior action since suffering the injury on the training ground back in September.
But after reporting no reaction following a 90-minute reserve team appearance this week, McNamara could play a part against Brighton when Wolves will be further boosted by the return of striker Kenny Miller from a two-game suspension.
Denes Rosa completed 60 minutes for the second string after recovering from a groin injury although the game is likely to come too soon for the Hungarian while Paul Ince and Darren Anderton have been ruled out too, this time by hamstring problems.
Jody Craddock and Mark Davies are back from illness but Mark Clyde has yet to recover from a partially dislocated jaw.

Brighton: will be without Dean Hammond when they travel to manager Mark McGhee's former club Wolves.
The young midfielder will miss the final two games through suspension following his sending-off towards the end of Monday's defeat by Sheffield Wednesday which sealed Albion's relegation.
Veteran defender Guy Butters is a doubt after limping out of the same game, so Adam Hinshelwood is poised to return at centre-half after shaking off a shoulder injury.
Midfielder Charlie Oatway and striker Jake Robinson (both ankle) remain long-term casualties.

Reserves Lose

Wolves reserves lost 2-1 against title chasing Aston Villa reserves at a saturated Villa Park yesterday.

Adam McGurk was close to giving the lead in the 17th minute when his 25-yard drive slipped from Ikeme's grasp and rolled against the foot of the post with the grateful keeper quickly gathering the loose ball.
In the 55th minute Villa took the lead. Kabeya's cross was headed on by Moore to McGurk who made no mistake with a low angled shot into the corner of the net.
Cort stabbed a shot against the foot of the post on the hour after Ganea had nodded down a cross from Davies.
Villa grabbed a second goal after 79 minutes with Moore clipping the ball over Ikeme after breaking free on the left.
Wolves pulled one back in the 88th minute. Liam Hughes hit a low cross from the left and Elliott Bennett converted from close quarters.

Aston Villa Reserves: Taylor, Bridges, Green (Stieber 71), Lowry, O'Halloran, Djemba-Djemba, Paul (Herd 77), Lund, Moore (capt), McGurk, Kabeya.
Unused Subs: Olejnik, Earls, Mikaelsson.

Unused Subs: Hennessey, Collins.

Adams Committed To Coventry

Coventry manager Micky Adams insists he is completely committed to the club.
Newspaper reports suggested Wolves might be poised to make an approach for Adams following Glenn Hoddle's failure to guide the club to the play-offs.
But Adams told the Coventry website: "I'm very happy at Coventry. I still have more than a year on my contract to run and I'm not looking for a change.
"The media attention is flattering but Coventry is my club and I'm looking forward to next season here."

18th April 2006

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle felt his team paid the price for an opening goal they could do nothing about at Preston.
The midlands side extended their winless run to six matches courtesy of goals in each half from Lewis Neal and Brett Ormerod, with the opener taking a deflection off Joleon Lescott to deceive goalkeeper Stefan Postma.
Wolves' ambitions of a top-six finish were ended some time ago but they never looked like getting anything from the game.

However, Hoddle insisted his side could have got something out of the match until Neal's opener changed the course of the game.
"You're always disappointed when you've lost the match," Hoddle said after the 2-0 defeat. "The first goal was a poor goal. It was a wicked deflection and there was no way the ball would have gone in the net because I think Stef could have thrown his cap on it.
"It took a wicked deflection and changed the momentum and turned the game upside down for us. That's the sort of luck we've had at the moment.
"We weren't our very best but the first goal changed it."

Hoddle also insisted the visiting supporters had every right to voice their anger at the way his team are playing.
He added: "The fans have the free choice to support us how they feel they want to support us.
"They're frustrated like everybody else at the club."

16th April 2006

Team News

Preston: boss Billy Davies is forced to keep faith with the side that won at Leicester.
Striker Marcus Stewart continues to be dogged by hamstring trouble and is likely to miss out once more, while Matt Hill is unlikely to be risked after the defender only recently recovered from a knee injury.
Midfielder Brian O'Neil, who has been nursing groin and pelvic problems, has been given only an outside chance of playing.
David Nugent, Callum Davidson, Adam Nowland, Andy Lonergan and Andy Smith have all been ruled out for the remainder of the season, despite Preston being guaranteed a play-off place.

Wolves: manager Glenn Hoddle will be without midfielder Paul Ince.
Ince limped out of the 1-1 draw with Watford on Friday with a hamstring injury and is set to be sidelined for at least 10 days.
There is better news for Kenny Miller who returns from suspension but central defender Gabor Gyepes will miss out after the Hungarian underwent surgery on cruciate knee ligament damage.

15th April 2006

Match Reaction

Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle insists he wants to stay at the club despite another disappointing result against Watford and some negative comments from chief executive Jez Moxey in the match programme.
Wolves failed to build on a promising first half in which a 17th-minute strike from Jeremie Aliadiere gave them a deserved lead and Marlon King equalised in the 65th minute with his 21st goal of the season.
King was sent off with five minutes remaining for using foul and abusive language towards the referee's assistant but Wolves had to settle for a 1-1 draw - their 19th draw of the season and their 10th at home.
Their failure to capitalise on winning positions this season has crippled their promotion hopes and a run of one win in eight means they are almost certain to miss out on the play-offs.

Moxey claimed in the programme that many at the club feel the campaign has been "a complete disaster" but Hoddle insists he does not feel he has been undermined.
"No, not at all," he said. "It's an opinion and if he wants to put that in the programme he's entitled to.
"I don't agree with that opinion. A disaster is getting relegated like some big clubs have done from this league, and there's more examples that I could give you.
"But being seventh in the league, one spot off the play-offs, and some of the football we've played isn't, for me, a disaster."

The home crowd voiced their anger towards Hoddle and the board in the closing stages but Hoddle has reiterated his commitment to the club.
"I've got a 12-month rolling contract," he said.
"I've seen how well we've played at times this season and I've seen how close we are to achieving what we want to achieve and getting in the play-offs.
"If we finished teams off we'd be in the top two, there's no doubt about it.
"We're not a long way off, but we've got to wait and see the financial implications of not having the parachute money next season.
"You asked me about being the Wolves manager next season and I'd said 'yes'."

The result was Wolves' 34th draw in 67 games under Hoddle's charge and the former England boss felt it was a similar story.
"First half I felt we'd done enough to come in two or three up," he added.
"But in the second we dropped far too deep and consequently you're stretched as a team when they're in possession."

Team News

Watford: manager Adrian Boothroyd hinted he would make changes to his starting line-up for Friday's match at Wolves.
Boothroyd's men have collected only one point from their last nine, damaging their hopes of automatic promotion from the Championship.
Watford are without forward Hameur Bouazza (foot) and midfielder Dominic Blizzard, who is still recovering from a virus.

Wolves: manager Glenn Hoddle has recalled defender Keith Lowe from his loan spell at League One side Swansea City.
Hoddle activated a 24-hour recall clause in the loan deal to bring Lowe back to Molineux to provide defensive cover ahead of two fixtures in four days over the Easter Bank Holiday period.
Lowe, who picked up a winner's medal following Swansea's LDV Vans Trophy final victory over Carlisle, made five other appearances for the Swans since arriving in Wales during March.
Meanwhile, Hoddle has further extended his options by withdrawing Mark Little from the England Under-19 squad to face Slovenia on Easter Monday.

Reserves Lose

Wolves reserves lost 2-0 in their derby game with Birmingham Reserves at Solihull yesterday.

Birmingham took the lead in the third minute when a corner wasn't properly cleared. Matthew Birley returned the ball into the box and Marcus Painter rose to head into the far corner of the net.
In the 14th minute Birmingham got a penalty after Martin Riley's challenge on DJ Campbell. The striker took the spot-kick himself but Oakes guessed correctly diving to his right to turn the ball behind for a corner.
The second goal came after 28 minutes Painter's low cross from the left was allowed to run through to Oliver Allen who sidefooted past Oakes from three-yards out.

Birmingham Reserves: Vaesen, Oji (capt), Latka, Upson (Motteram 60) , Painter, Kilkenny, Nafti (Howland 71), Bruce, Birley, Campbell, Allen.
Unused Subs: Legdzins, McPike, Cottrill.

Vio Transfer Rumour

Coventry have denied that they have offered terms to Wolves Romanian international Vio Ioan Ganea.
The 32-year-old is out of contract in the summer and he told the press in his homeland that he had offers from both Coventry and Cardiff.
"I have had offers to join Cardiff City and Coventry," said Ganea - who admits he would like the chance to link-up with Dave Jones who originally took him to Molineux in 2003.
"I would rather work with Dave Jones but Cardiff have only offered me a one-year contract while Coventry have offered me two years," Ganea said.
"It is too soon for me to say where I am going to play next season but I would like the contract with my next club to be as long as possible."

However, Coventry were adamant that nobody at The Ricoh Arena has made such an offer.
"I have spoken to Micky about the claims and I can confirm that no one at Coventry City has made him an offer," said Managing director Paul Fletcher.
"Micky knows nothing about it and certainly neither myself, Mal Brannigan (finance director) or any of the directors have made an offer.
"Should Micky want to go for a player like him then I am sure he would sit down and talk to us about it first."

9th April 2006

Match Reaction

Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle admits the club now "need a miracle" if they are to figure in the play-offs.
A 2-2 home draw with Coventry left Wolves seventh in the table and 10 points behind sixth-placed Crystal Palace, with just 12 points left to play for.

He said: "It looks like we now need a miracle because we need Palace to lose every game while we have to win every game.
"We did enough to win the game today but it didn't happen for us and that's been the story of our season.
"It's too soon for post mortems though because there are still games left to play.
"Some of our play was good in the first half and at 2-0 up we should have put Coventry to bed but we missed glorious chances to score more goals.
"By half-time it was 2-1 and I told the players we'd have to show plenty of character to go out there and do it all again - but we didn't get anywhere near."

Team News

Wolves: striker Kenny Miller will be missing as he starts to serve a two-game suspension while central defender Gabor Gyepes will also be absent after undergoing surgery to repair cruciate knee ligament damage.
But doubts remain over Lee Naylor's fitness with the left-back troubled by ankle, calf and shin problems.
Hamstring problems mean Darren Anderton is another likely to be absent.
Denes Rosa continues to be sidelined by a groin injury, Mark Clyde has been ruled out after suffering a partially dislocated jaw, and a back injury has put paid to any hopes of Seyi-George Olofinjana's involvement.
Seol Ki-Hyeon is back from illness but the Sky Blues clash is likely to come too soon for George Ndah and Jackie McNamara who are getting over long-term knee injuries.

Coventry: manager Micky Adams can enjoy the luxury of selecting his side from a settled squad.
Midfielder Claus Jorgensen remains on the casualty list though with the Faroe Islands international still laid low by groin problems.
And the Molineux clash is also likely to come too soon for left-back Stuart Giddings who is on the way back from knee troubles. He has required two bouts of surgery that has kept him out of first-team action for the whole of the season to date.
Fellow midfielder Isaac Osbourne's season has already been brought to a premature end thanks to a knee problem of his own, but Sky Blues boss Adams is otherwise clear of injury and suspension concerns.

Cameron Recalled

Wolves midfielder Colin Cameron has recalled from his loan at Millwall in time for the weekend clash with Coventry.
The 33-year-old midfielder joined the Lions last month after being told he would not be offered a new contract at Molineux once his current deal expires at the end of the season.
But now Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle has exercised his right to recall the Scot at 24 hours' notice.
Hoddle is short of midfield numbers as Darren Anderton, Denes Rosa and Seyi George Olofinjana have all been ruled out of the Sky Blues clash by injury.
And although Cameron himself has been receiving treatment for a minor knee injury, he is poised to go straight into the team on Saturday afternoon.

Hoddle On His Way?

Wolves are reportedly ready to replace Glenn Hoddle after a disappointing attempt to return to the Premiership this season.
Reports in todday's papers suggest that Wolves are already lining up a replacement for Hoddle, whose current one-year contract expires in the summer.

Hoddle, who's been in charge for the last 16 months, was widely expected to lead the club back to the top-flight but is now becoming increasingly unpopular with sections of the Molineux crowd.
Directors are unlikely to offer Hoddle a new contract this summer and new candidates are already being considered.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has also warned that the club will have to slash their wage bill next term for another year in the Championship.

Wolves responded with this on their website www.wolves.co.uk:

Jez Moxey today moved to quash a story that appeared in this morning's Sun newspaper claiming that manager Glenn Hoddle was about to be sacked by Wolves.
The chief executive said: "The story is rubbish. The only thing that we are concentrating on are the remaining five games as we still have an outside chance of promotion."
The story also contained an inaccuracy as it stated that Glenn Hoddle's contract expires this summer when in fact he has a one year rolling deal.
Glenn added: "They've got their facts wrong so that tells you how much they know. The story doesn't concern me, I'm just concentrating on Coventry on Saturday."

Gyepes Has Surgery

Wolves defender Gabor Gyepes has undergone surgery after damaging his cruciate knee ligament in the 3-1 defeat to Sheff Wed on the 25th March.
After consulting two specialists, it was decided the Hungarian player required extensive surgery.
Wolves physio Barry Holmes said on WOW: "He will be in a brace for a number of weeks but is due to be treated by us from next week."

Reserves Lose

Wolves reserves lost 3-1 to Aston Villa's reserves the Bucks Head this evening.

Villa took the lead in the 8th minute thanks to a spectacular goal from Adam McGurk whose overhead kick from just inside the box flew over Ikeme.
Their second came when Mark Little fouled Agbonlahor just outside the Wolves area, Gardner curled the ball over the wall and beyond the diving Ikeme.
Ndah got one back for Wolves in the 74th minute from 12-yards after a good cross from Cornes.
Then 6 minutes later, it looked like Stewart had levelled matters when he got a head to Daniel Jones' corner. But the ball hit the inside of the post and was scrambled upfield.
It broke to Agbonlahor who sprinted clear and buried a third goal past Ikeme. In a matter of seconds Wolves had gone from within an inch or two of an equaliser but then went 3-1 down.

Wolves Reserves: Ikeme, McNamara, Jones, Riley, Little, Craddock (Rafferty 62) (Collins 81), Ndah, France, Ganea, Cornes, Seol (Stewart 73).
Unused Subs: Hennessey, Fitzpatrick.
Yellow Card: McNamara.

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle refuses to give up on his side's play-off hopes despite slipping eight points behind sixth-placed Preston following defeat at Plymouth.
Having suffered their second defeat on the trot, Hoddle's men only have five games left to close the gap on the top six, including a testing 17th April trip to Preston.

Hoddle admitted: "We won't give up the chase - whilst it's mathematically possible there's no way we will give that chase up. Nobody would expect us to.
"I can understand everyone's frustrations - the supporters. Everyone in that dressing room, everyone at the club is frustrated but we have got to pick the team up and make sure we get a win against Coventry."

The former England coach was brave enough to admit: "That is as poor as we have played all season.
"I've got be honest I am very disappointed and am extra disappointed because of the vital points that were available to us.
"We have spoken about it in there but there is more speaking to do on Monday, because that was a poor performance all around. That has put so much pressure on us now.
"We knew we would be penned in but we did not show enough desire to deal with it.
"Consequently we were on the back foot for most of the game.
"We knew they would come at us, they had a strong wind behind them and we were 1-0 down within 10 minutes.
"We never got out of first gear and that was a disappointing thing for me.
"We can only cast our mind to next week and we have got Coventry at home.
"We need to analyse this game and we need to talk more about what went on out there today - and that will be done privately with the players.
"We have got to pick ourselves up by the end of next week and make sure the team goes out and performs much better than that - and see if we can get back to winning ways."
