Match Reaction

Hoddle said on WOW after the match: "If it wasn't for Michael Oakes we could have gone in at the break 3-2 down.
"We had lots of scoring opportunities during the game and scored two lovely goals, but we did lose our shape in the first half.
"We were too open and could have paid the price. But the team will hopefully learn from that."

Transfer News

Wolves have signed Hungarian international Gabor Gyepes on a six month loan.
Gyepes spent just over a week on trial at Molineux and played in friendlies against Port Vale and Dundee, but he had to return to his parent club, Ferencvaros earlier this week to play in a UEFA Cup qualifying game. The club later withdrew the player from that game and gave him permission to travel back to Wolves for talks earlier this week and he signed a six-month loan deal this afternoon. Wolves also have an exclusive option to make the transfer permanent at any stage during his loan.

Gabor said on WOW: "I am very happy to have completed the signing here at Wolves.
"I came here and played two games last week and I feel this is a very good team.
"Everybody has been very friendly to me and I hope I will be able to stay here a long time. It was my dream to play football abroad, and to come here to England, the home of football, will be very good for me.
"It is difficult for me to move because I have lived in Ferencvaros for 18 years but I am looking forward to a new challenge here at Wolves.
"I would like to play in the Premiership, of course, but this is my first step into English football and I am just hoping to play regularly for now. I hope one day to play in the Premiership with Wolves."

Winger Kevin Cooper has completed a transfer to Cardiff City, this afternoon he had a medical and agreed the terms of a deal at Ninian Park.
Cooper requested to be put on the transfer list at the end of last season after becoming frustrated by a lack of first team opportunities. He was later linked with moves to his hometown club, Derby, and Preston, but preferred to join former Wolves boss Dave Jones at Cardiff.

He joined Wolves from Wimbledon in March 2002 and in Wolves promotion-winning season he played 28 games, scoring three goals but during the Premiership campaign his opportunities became limited and he spent spells on loan with Sunderland and Norwich City.
Kevin returned and last season made 31 appearances, 15 of which came from the substitutes bench. He scored six goals, ending the club's nightmare run of missed penalties with his spot-kick against Derby in October.

Wolves have turned down another approach from Chesterfield for young midfielder Sammy Clingan. Chesterfield re-tabled an earlier offer for the Northern Ireland under 21 international.

Dan Haag 3-0 Wolves

Wolves lost 3-0 to top flight Dutch side ADO Den Haag in the Netherlands.

The first goal came in the ninth minute, Seol's crossfield ball was intercepted by former Fulham striker Sean Doherty who ran to the edge of the box before burying a low shot into the corner of the net.
In the 44th minute Den Haag increased their lead after Eljero Elia had broken clear on the left.
He took the ball to the by-line and pulled it back to Tommie van der Leegte whose shot from near the penalty spot took a hefty deflection off Ricketts on its way into the net to leave Wayne Hennessey with no chance.
Den Haag moved into a three-goal lead in the 61st minute. Roy Stroeve was the man who beat Ikeme - with a low shot from the edge of the 'D'.

Den Haag: Paauwe, Rijaard, Saeijs, Saavedra (Grujic 60), Van Der Leegte (O'Brien 60), Rankovic (El-Akchaoui 17), Stroeve (Jungschlager 81), Doherty, Verhoek, Elia, Rzasa.

Gyepes Coming Back

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle is on the brink of signing Hungarian international defender Gabor Gyepes on an initial six-month loan from Ferencvaros with an option to buy Gyepes at any stage during the loan.
Gypes had returned to Hungary after a trial at Molineux to prepare for a Uefa Cup tie with Belarus outfit MTZ-RIPO Minsk.
But Ferencvaros have withdrawn Gyepes from their squad and the 24-year-old is expected to fly back into England late on Wednesday to discuss an initial loan with a view to a permanent move.

Young Keeper Added To Squad

Academy keeper Wayne Hennessey has been withdrawn from the Welsh under 19 squad and will travel with the Wolves squad to the Netherlands for Wednesday's friendly with Den Haag.
The decision to pull the youngster out of international duty was made after Paul Jones fractured his cheekbone.

Brown Blasts Wolves

Derby manager Phil Brown has blasted Wolves after they went public on their efforts to sign midfielder Inigo Idiakez.
Brown accused Wolves of unsettling the playmaker but then re-iterated his determination to keep the 31-year-old on board.
Three unsuccessful attempts by Wolves for Idiakez prompted talks between the player and Brown before the Spaniard finally pledged his loyalty to the Rams.
Brown said: "I'm disappointed Wolves have gone public on this and if it was done in an attempt to upset the player, then they've succeeded. It is up to Wolves how they conduct their business but I don't intend to conduct mine in that manner."

Trialist Goes Back

Hungarian trialist Gabor Gyepes has returned to his club Ferencvaros to take part in a UEFA Cup game against MTZ-RIPO on Thursday.
The central defender has been on trial at Molineux and played in the matches against Port Vale and Dundee.

Boss Glenn Hoddle said on WOW: "Gabor was always due to go back to play in this game.
"There is a possibility that we will be taking a further look at him at some stage."

New Keeper Search

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle is now having to look for a new goalkeeper after Paul Jones was ruled out for the start of the season by injury.
38-year-old Jones is expected to spend up to two months on the sidelines after sustaining a broken cheekbone during Sunday's 4-0 Discovery Cup victory over Dundee.
He was carried off midway through the first half at Dens Park after a collision with Tam McManus.

Hoddle said on WOW: "Paul's fractured his cheekbone and will be out for six to eight weeks which is very disappointing. But it was an accident.
"Paul had to come out of his goal, went in with his feet for a 50-50 challenge with their striker and the lad's caught him across the temple and the face."

With Matt Murray having yet to fully recover from surgery to mend a broken foot, Michael Oakes is now expected to start in goal for Wolves.
Hoddle added: "If anything happens to Oaksie, Carl Ikeme hasn't got enough experience yet and Matt won't be ready for a few months.
"So now we've got to try to bring in a keeper although we've not had much luck in the transfer market as it is.
"But our feelings are with Paul - it's very disappointing and upsetting for him."

24th July 2005

Dundee 0-4 Wolves

Wolves beat Dundee 4-0 in the City of Discovery third/fourth place play-off.

After dominating the first half without scoring, Wolves finally got a goal in the 57th minute. Clarke burst into the box and struck a low shot that bounced off the foot of the near post and back to Cort who rammed the ball into the net.
Substitute Lewis Gobern created Wolves second after 75 minutes, he chipped the ball into the Dundee box for Cort to power a header beyond Meldrum.
In the 83rd minute Edwards made it three when he ran on to a long through ball from Lowe and, from a tight angle on the right of the home area, he lobbed the ball over Meldrum.
Cort completed his hat-trick in the 85th minute when he rose to power home a header following a Cooper corner.

Wolves Out Of Cup

Wolves are out of the City of Discovery Cup after they narrowly lost a penalty shoot-out to Sheffield Wednesday, who had held on for a goalless draw in a game dominated by Wolves.

Miller had the chance to give Wolves the elad in the eight minute when Frankie Simek illegally halted Miller's run in along the by-line for an obvious penalty. The Scot picked himself up and took the kick himself but the ball smacked against Lucas's right-hand post and bounced clear.

Kevin Cooper was first to go in the penalty shoot-out but his spot kick was both high and wide. The nine that followed all found the back of the net although Oakes was unlucky when he got a hand to Burton O'Brien's kick.

Vio Misses Trip North

Vio Ganea won't be taking any part in this weekend's City of Discovery soccer tournament in Dundee. The striker is suffering from a sore ankle after he took a kick on the joint in Thursday's behind closed doors friendly with Stoke City at Compton Park.
The injury isn't thought to be serious, but it was felt that he had little chance of being fit enough for either of the games Wolves are due play in so he didn't make the trip to Scotland.

22nd July 2005

Transfer News

Derby boss Phil Brown is adamant that his star midfielder Inigo Idiakez will remain at the club after holding talks with him in the light of continued interest from Wolves.
The Rams are believed to be discussing another possible improved contract for the 31-year-old, who signed a new deal through to June 2007 only three months ago.
Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle confirmed that the club made a third bid for Idiakez on Monday but Derby are refusing to comment on the matter.

Preston Confirm Interest In Cooper

Preston manager Billy Davies has confirmed his interest in Kevin Cooper. But he stressed that the 30-year-old is just one of several players that has caught his attention in his search.
Cooper was placed on the transfer list at his own request and has been linked with moves to Derby and Cardiff.

Reserve Friendly

Wolves won a behind closed doors friendly with Stoke City at Compton Park 3-0,  The match was played in three 30 minute sections.

Ten minutes into the second period Wolves took the lead when Cornes drove home after running on to a Mark Davies cross.
Two minutes later, Davies was felled in full flight as he ran into the Stoke box and Cornes drilled the resultant spot kick into the bottom corner.
Cornes completed his hat-trick midway through the final period when he scored with a low shot from 25-yards out after Mark Little's long through ball had spilt the opposition defence.

But there was bad news when midfielder Sammy Clingan fractured his left wrist in the early stages of the game.
In obvious pain, he was taken to hospital where X-rays confirmed initial fears that the wrist was fractured.

Wolves Team: Jones, Little, Rafferty, Clingan (Fitzpatrick 22), Lowe, Riley, Gobern, Kilgour (Taylor 74), Ganea (Cornes 30), Davies, Ndah (Hughes 30).

Wolves drew level in the 13th minute after Seyi George Olofinjana had won possession from Michael Cummins. The Nigerian pushed the ball through to Rohan Ricketts who quickly slipped a perfect pass to Carl Cort and the striker easily beat Jonathan Brain in the Vale goal.
Wolves went ahead ten minutes before half time, Ricketts was the creator again his pass finding Leon Clarke who confidently picked his spot from the edge of the box before despatching a shot into the roof of the net.

18th July 2005

Transfer News

There was a press conference at lunchtime today to update the club's position regarding signings.
Chief executive Jez Moxey and boss Glenn Hoddle reiterated that three offers remain on the table for three different players but would only confirm the name of one as being derby midfielder Inigo Idiakez

Jez said on WOW: "The other two are with Premiership clubs and we have bid seven figure sums.
"One club has told us that they may well want to do business with us but they want to bring in two players themselves before they will let the player we want go.
"We are finding this everywhere we go. Clubs are reluctant to lose players until they have others in."

Boss Hoddle added: "We have other targets on the list and I have to make a decision as to how long we wait. I know that if we hold out for a player it's a gamble and I have to decide whether I think it will pay off.
"But if we go into the season with the squad we have got now I am happy. Considering the way we were playing at the end of the season and that we have signed Rohan Ricketts and the experienced Jackie McNamara, I'm pleased with what we have. What I'm looking for is strength in depth because it's going to be a long hard season.
"What I'm after is the icing on the cake."

Jez also confirmed that Portsmouth are one of the three clubs who have expressed interest in Henri Camara. "But it's nothing more than an enquiry at the moment," he said.

Trial For Defender

Wolves have given a four day trial to Hungarian international defender Gabor Gyepes, he's due to arrive in at Molineux today.
The 24-year-old has made 112 appearances for Ferencvaros since making his debut for them in 1999/2000 season and has won 18 full caps playing for his country.
Hoddle is excepted to name Gyepes in his side for Wednesday's friendly at Port Vale, providing he receives the necessary clearance.

Camara Will Honour Contract

Striker Henri Camara has told Wolves he will honour his Molineux contract if they are can't sell him.
The Senegal striker went on strike following Wolves relegation from the Premiership and refused to take part in pre-season training, so he spent last season on loan at Celtic and Southampton.
It didn't look like he would play for Wolves again but he has now returned to pre-season training with Wolves where he has two years remaining on his contract.

After talks with manager Glenn Hoddle, Camara said on WOW: "I never had a problem with Wolves, I just desperately wanted to keep playing at the highest level and I'm sorry for the upset that followed.
"I never intended to cause any offence to the supporters who voted me player of the year in 2003-04, so I'm starting training, will work hard and see what happens."

Chief executive Jez Moxey insists he would abide by supporters wishes and sell Camara if Wolves were offered a fair price.
He said: "Henri has proved himself a quality player who is well capable of scoring goals in the Premier League.
"We must therefore receive fair market value for him if he is to leave us. If we receive such an offer - and to date we have not - then we will sell him and the proceeds will give the manager more options.
"Alternatively, if no acceptable offer materialises and Henri stays, then we have a very good player to add to the squad that finished last season so strongly."

Transfer News

Wolves have received and turned down two offers for Academy graduate Sammy Clingan.
League One sides Chesterfield and Doncaster both made bids of £50,000.
But Wolves where not prepared to sell him for such a small fee.
The 21-year-old spent a spell on loan at Chesterfield last season, where he made 15 appearances and scored two goals.

13th July 2005

Camara To Return To Molineux

Striker Henri Camara will report back for pre-season training on Thursday morning although Wolves are still keen to sell him.
Camara was first granted an exemption from the first week of training following his international exertions over the summer and the 28-year-old was handed a another leave of absence when Wolves travelled to Spain for a second week of training.
He was finally due back at Molineux on Monday, only for travel delays to leave him stranded in Dakar although he is now back in the UK.

Injury Update

Striker Carl Cort returned to training this morning after recovering from the flu type symptoms that interrupted his pre-season schedule in Spain last week.

Physio Barry Holmes said on WOW: "As a consequence of the bug that Carl picked up, he then developed an ear infection. Unless there is a reaction after today's training sessions, he will be considered for either of the matches that will take place tomorrow or on Saturday.
"And we are also hopeful that Seol will go back into training later today and that he will be OK for one of the games. He got a kick on the knee at Hednesford on Monday and has been receiving treatment since then.
"Vio (Ganea) has recovered from the stomach bug that ruled him out of the Telford game and Keith Lowe, who felt a hamstring twinge in training on Tuesday, should be fit again for the start of next week.
"We rested George Ndah after Monday's game to allow the back spasms he suffered to settle down. It's nothing serious but George hasn't played much football over the last two seasons and the pitch at Keys Park was a stamina sapping one so it didn't surprise me when he had this slight reaction."

One player that didn't feature at either Hednesford or Telford is Mark Clyde. Barry added: "Mark has been struggling with a swollen ankle for a number of days and he will be having an X-ray and scans to try and determine exactly what the problem is."

Squad Numbers

Wolves have announced the squad numbers for next season. The only player to change from last season is Matt Murray who has swapped from 13 to 20 hoping it might change his luck!!

Wolves did a complete swap of the team at half time and within four minutes they doubled the lead. Lee Naylor's pass was backheeled by Mark Davies into the path of Cornes who took aim and fired low into the net from the edge of the box in the 49th minute.
Miller headed Wolves' third goal in the 83rd minute, the Scottish striker was lurking at the far post and he sent a bouncing header into the net after connecting with a fine centre from Lee Naylor.

Cort Not Leaving Molineux

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has poured cold water on reports linking striker Carl Cort with a possible £1.2m transfer to Wigan.
Latics boss Paul Jewell is in the market for a striker having missed out on Heidar Helguson, who instead chose to leave Watford for Fulham.
Cort, 27, is currently in pre-season training with Glenn Hoddle's Wanderers troops in a camp in Spain and the club say he is in their future plans.

6th July 2005

Sunderland Give Up On Miller

Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy has ended his pursuit of Wolves striker Kenny Miller after having two bids rejected.
There first offer was £1m for the 25-year-old Scottish international earlier in the summer and they then improved it to around £1.2m.
But Wolves turned down both, insisting that manager Glenn Hoddle wants to keep Miller who remains on the transfer list at his own request.
Despite suggestions that an offer of around £2m could persuade Wolves to unload a player who scored 20 goals last season, McCarthy has revealed he has dropped out of the race.
McCarthy said"We made a bid, it has been turned down and that is it.
"We are not planning on going back and offering any more money, so as far as I am concerned, it is finished with."

Lescott Suffers More Knee Problems

Wolves defender Joleon Lescott has been forced to sit out pre-season training sessions after suffering more knee problems. He was pulled out of training at the National Sports Centre at Lilleshall in Shropshire as a precaution.
But the 22-year-old, who has undergone surgery on both knees during recent seasons, has travelled with the squad to their training camp in Spain this week.

Boss Glenn Hoddle said on WOW: "Jo was feeling a little tightness around the knee and rather than risk him we pulled him out for treatment.
"Hopefully it isn't anything too serious but we decided to err on the side of caution.
"It's important he's fully fit for when the season begins and I want to get any problems sorted out now rather than when the real stuff kicks off in August."

The Wolves squad has departed for Spain this morning, 36 boarded the team bus bound for Stansted, with new signing Jackie McNamara on board.

Both players are scheduled to report back to Molineux a week today.

Rams Warn Off Wolves

Derby director of football Murdo Mackay has warned Wolves they are wasting their time trying to sign Inigo Idiakez and Grzegorz Rasiak.
Wolves have reportedly made a £2m bid for Poland striker Rasiak and Spanish playmaker Idiakez - but Mackay insists the Rams have had no contact with their Midlands rivals.

He said: "We haven't received any Wolves offers for Inigo or Grzegorz and they are players we would want to keep."
Rasiak scored 16 goals in 35 league appearances last season to help propel the Rams into fourth place and a play-off spot, while Idiakez played a key role in central midfield.

Hibernian have insisted their contract offer is still on the table for transfer-listed striker Derek Riordan, the young starlet has expressed his "hurt" at being put on the list by the club after he rejected their terms.

Wolves and Sunderland are known to be two English clubs waiting to test Hibernian's resolve before the transfer window closes on 31st August, but Celtic and Rangers have also been linked to him.
Riordan, who was called into the Scotland squad at the end of last season, still has 14 months left to run on his contract but the club insist they still want to keep him.
"The club made an offer of a new contract to the player which was the best offer we could have made and that's still there," said a spokesperson.

The 22-year-old has been put on the list and weighed down with the burden of a £1m price tag.
Wolves are looking to raid Scotland again after the capture of Celtic skipper Jackie McNamara, while Premiership new-boys Sunderland are monitoring the situation closely after pulling out of their proposed move for Ricardo Fuller.

Gary Mulligan has left Molineux and joined Sheff Utd, where he has signed one-year deal.

Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy is ready to up his bid once again to try and prise unsettled Wolves striker Kenny Miller from Molineux.
They have so far seen Wolves reject offers of £800,000 and £1m for the 25-year-old, who is on the transfer list.
McCarthy wants Miller to form a strike partnership with new-boy Jonathan Stead and will up his bid to around £1.2m, which may well tempt Wolves as the Scot only has one year remaining on his contract.
Glenn Hoddle was hoping to build his promotion campaign around the former Rangers striker.
But Miller looks increasingly likely to join Sunderland as they can offer the immediate lure of Premiership football.

Stubbs Linked With Molineux

Alan Stubbs has appeared to have played their last game for Everton, as he failed to report for pre-season training on Friday as the rest of the squad began the countdown to the new season, with boss David Moyes resigned to losing him.
Stubbs, who skippered the side last season, along with full-back Pistone and midfielder Watson have all snubbed the offer of new contracts, leaving Moyes on the lookout for replacements.
The door has not completely closed on the players, but Stubbs is known to be interesting Wolves.
