Cardiff: should be unchanged for Saturday's high-profile visit of Wolves to Ninian Park.
Striker Michael Chopra and midfielders Joe Ledley and Paul Parry are all expected to overcome minor knocks.

Wolves: striker Jay Bothroyd is pushing for a recall after he missed a game following a training-ground clash of heads left him with a closed eye.
Jamie Clapham could also feature after recovering from a combination of thigh and groin injuries.

Cornes Leaves Molineux

Wolves announced today the termination by mutual consent of the professional contract of Academy graduate Chris Cornes.
Cornes was approaching the end of a mandatory six month ban for providing a positive sample of a prohibited substance following a test at the Compton Park training ground in February, 2006.
The club suspended him when the 'B' sample was confirmed as positive but stood by him when the six month ban was handed down by the FA. Cornes had continued to train with the squad in the subsequent period.
But, it has now been decided that it is in the best interests of both parties that the player pursues his career elsewhere.

Friendly Win

Wolves beat Walsall 3-2 in a friendly at Compton Park today.
New loan signing David Wheater made an instant impression by scoring with his first touch of the ball in only the second minute, a superb first time shot from 22-yards that flew just inside the post.
Wolves went two up after eight minutes, Lewis Gobern with another spectacular effort, the winger picked the ball up in midfield and advanced before unleashing a tremendous shot from fully 25-yards that arrowed into the top corner of the net.
Daniel Jones got Wolves third in the 26th minute, heading in a perfectly flighted cross from Gobern.
Walsall pulled one back in the 73rd minute when Alex Nicholls ran through and beat Ikeme from ten-yards.
Then four minutes from the end the visitors made it 3-2 when an inswinging free-kick from Kinsella, taken from wide on the left, hit the inside of the far post before bouncing back into the arms of Ikeme. A flagging linesman indicated that the ball had crossed the line and the goal was awarded.

Wolves: Oakes (Ikeme 45), McNamara (Bailey 68), Clapham (Collins 57), Gleeson, Little, Wheater (Spalding 59), Gobern (Bennett 45), O'Connor, Davies (Ijaha 74), Finkler, Jones.

Wheater will be eligible for inclusion in the squad this weekend, with the period of his loan taking him up to December 30th inclusive.

Match Reaction

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has challenged Seyi George Olofinjana to score 10 goals from midfield after the Nigerian claimed his first of the season in the 2-0 win over Stoke.
Olofinjana latched onto Rohan Ricketts' cross-shot from the right to glance home a header in the 69th minute.
The scoring had been opened in the 20th minute when Leon Clarke's dribble into the Potters' penalty box ended with the striker's first goal of the season.

And McCarthy said: "I sat down with Olofinjana for a chat before the game and because he is a very conscientious player, he asked me what I thought he could be doing better.
"I told him with his power and size he should be chipping in with 10 goals per season and even at half-time I told him if he got into the Stoke penalty box they would not be able to deal with him.
"He did that in the second half and it is terrific for him he is off the mark."

But McCarthy revealed injury concerns are restricting his striking options.
He said: "Carl Cort has picked up a groin strain and Jay Bothroyd had a clash of heads with Karl Henry which meant he could not see at all out of one eye on Friday and could barely see out of it today.
"Meanwhile, Leon Clarke did really well but there were one or two things he did not go for in the second half.
"He started to get the bird from the fans but what they did not realise he has got a tight hamstring.
"He did not want to tell me about it, such is his desire to play, but I recognised it and that is why I brought him off."

Team News

Wolves: striker Carl Cort is a doubt for Wolves after suffering a groin injury in training and Mark Davies and Denes Rosa are also expected to miss out again.
Jamie Clapham is out with a thigh injury and although Jackie McNamara is back training after his hip injury he is not fit for first-team action yet.

Friendly Win

Wolves beat Cheltenham Town 2-0 in a friendly at Compton Park today, with Jackie McNamara making a successful comeback, he played for 67 minutes and felt no ill effects after recovering from the hip injury he picked up in the pre-season friendly at Swansea.

Wolves took the lead in the 32nd minute, Daniel Jones crossed from the left and Clarke met the ball full on the volley from just eight-yards out. Cheltenham's keeper Brown made an incredible reflex save but the ball bounced back to Clarke who shot for goal again only to be denied by a defender's block. But when the ball rebounded to the striker he made sure it was third time lucky by burying a low shot.
Craig Davies, after some fine work on the right, crossed to the Academy youngster who controlled the ball before turning and firing home from 12-yards.

Wolves: Ikeme, McNamara (Askey 67), Spalding (Bennett 82), Gleeson, Riley, Mulgrew, Davies, O'Connor, Clarke (Cort 45) (Hughes 76), Bothroyd (Finkler 45), Jones. Unused subs: Lumley, Salmon, Ijaha.

Murray Tipped For England

England’s top goalkeeping coach today confirmed that Wolves star Matt Murray is under scrutiny to join England’s Euro 2008 campaign. Ray Clemence, the former Liverpool and Spurs star who is in charge of England’s goalkeeping selections, says the stopper is being closely monitored.
After three years of injury problems, the 6ft 6in star has put his career back on track with a string of outstanding performances during Wolves’ promising start to the season.
Even opposition managers have been singing his praises, culminating in Barnsley boss Andy Ritchie promoting an England call for the 25-year-old after the weekend clash at Oakwell.

17th September 2006

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Mick McCathy said after the match: "A week ago people were talking about us being a promotion team but after Tuesday and today that has been put to bed.
"We can't perform like we did in the first half. The first half compared to the second was embarrassing. They overran us and they outfought us.
"In the second half we played well and created chances and could have had an equaliser."

Wolves Linked With O'Brien

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is reportedly plotting a January raid for out-of-favour Portsmouth central defender Andy O'Brien.
McCarthy wants to bolster his defence in January's transfer window, and has put O'Brien at the top of his wanted list.
The 27-year-old is struggling to get a game at Fratton Park under Harry Redknapp, who sees Sol Campbell and Linvoy Primus as his first-choice central defensive partnership.
Pompey have yet to concede a goal this season and sit second in the Premiership, so O'Brien's long-term prospects do not look good.

13th September 2006

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy said: "It took us a while to get going but I'm proud we kept at it and loved the fact we were cheered off at the end and could have nicked something.
"Derby were better than us in certain aspects. They passed better and created clearer chances.
"But we have still surpassed everybody's expectations of us so far."

10th September 2006

Match Reaction

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy believes Jay Bothroyd is "Premiership class" after watching the striker's late wonder goal sink Leeds at Elland Road.
The 24-year-old, a half-time substitute for the below-par Carl Cort, snatched maximum points for McCarthy's new-look Wolves with a 25-yard thunderbolt in the final minute to lift the Black Country outfit up to third in the Coca-Cola Championship table.

"We were just saying among our staff that we thought it was going to be a good point away from home at Leeds," said boss McCarthy.
"We would have taken that all day long and then, well it's a fabulous strike.
"I don't know where it came from because he's been hopeless all week and he'll verify that.
"But he saved one for the day which is nice."

When asked whether he thought former Arsenal trainee Bothroyd, who includes Coventry, Perugia, Blackburn and Charlton among his six clubs, was genuine Premiership class, McCarthy replied with a firm "yes".
"That's been evident throughout his career, I think I'm fortunate now to have him at Wolves.
"He's got great self-belief and that's fantastic, but that has to be backed up by ability week in, week out and staying fit, which if he does, we've got a very good player.
"I'm delighted to have him. He's great about the place. I like self-belief in players."

McCarthy attempted to play down his side's flying start to the season and pointed to his small squad as a leveller.
"Excitement is great, but if you look beneath the surface, we brought 18 players here.
"We've got some decent young lads below that, we've got a young Brazilian, Gui Finkler, Stephen Gleeson, Kevin O'Connor and a few injured, but beneath that, that's our lot really.
"At the minute they're working their socks off. (Goalkeeper) Matt Murray's kept us in the game and if you take an overview, had one of Leeds' first-half chances gone in I might have been sat here like a sourpuss.
"It's not like we were all over Leeds and we looked like a much better team.
"First half them, second half us - and we scored."

Lowe Back On Out Loan

Wolves defender Keith Lowe is set to join Cheltenham on loan.
Lowe is expected to stay at Whaddon Road for a month and will help ease the injury problems the Robins are currently suffering.

Lowe is set to play in the League One game against Huddersfield on Saturday and has permission to be fielded in the Carling Cup.

Moxey Assures Fans

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has assured fans the club remains stable despite the lack of a chairman.
Rick Hayward, son of owner Sir Jack, resigned as chairman in July with director Paul Manduca also stepping down.
Meanwhile, local businessmen Kevin Threlfall and John Gough were appointed to the board although the position of chairman still remains vacant.

Moxey said: "Appointing a new chairman is an issue we want to resolve and it's being driven by Sir Jack so I'm sure it'll be sorted out in due course.
"But it has no massive significance on the running of the business - we have to remember Wolves are owned 100% by Sir Jack.
"The business continues to be run by an executive team of managers with myself as full-time executive reporting to the owner."

Coventry Win Friendly

Wolves lost 2-1 in this morning's friendly against Coventry at Compton. Charlie Mulgrew made his first appearance for Wolves and Finkler returned after an injury lay-off

Coventry took the lead after four minutes, William Davies took a free-kick from wide on the left, the ball was headed goalwards by Ben Turner but it freakishly hit the post and rebounded into the net off the back of keeper Carl Ikeme.
Coventry went two-up in the 37th minute when Isaac Osbourne struck a low shot home from 12-yards.
Wolves started the second-half strongly and within two minutes Ricketts hit the foot of the post from close in following a Gobern cross. And it was Gobern, just two minutes later, that provided the ammunition for Clarke to head powerfully home.

Wolves Team: Ikeme (Lumley 77), Lowe (Ricketts 45), Mulgrew, Gleeson, Riley, Breen (Craddock 45), Gobern, Potter (Henry 45), Cort (Clarke 45), C Davies (Finkler 52), Jones.

Lowe Returns From Loan

On-loan defender Keith Lowe has left Brighton and returned to Wolves after failing to make a single first-team appearance during his month-long stint.
Lowe was brought in after regular centre-halves Guy Butters and Adam Hinshelwood sustained pre-season injuries, but the form of rookie pair Adam El-Abd and Joel Lynch kept the 19-year-old consigned to the bench.
"We brought him here to play and it's just not the way it worked out," said manager Mark McGhee. "That's absolutely no reflection on him or the way he's gone about his business."
