Match Reaction

Wolves' boss Jones said after their 1-0 defeat: "When everything has gone so well in training and you have worked so hard it is frustrating for everyone involved.
"They were always going to throw their bodies in front of the ball but we didn't move it quickly enough.
"We allowed them to get back into a shape that was always going to be difficult to break down. I'm very disappointed.
"When we didn't break them down their keeper pulled off a couple of great saves but we were shooting waywardly anyway from long distance." from sportinglife.com

Gillingham: have major problems in attack going into the home clash with Wolves.
Boss Andy Hessenthaler is without Patrick Agyemang (hamstring) and Darren Byfield (knee), while player-coach Iwan Roberts is suspended.
Midfielders John Robinson (hamstring) and Nicky Southall (groin) are also unavailable for the visit of Dave Jones' side.
Hessenthaler will probably pair Darius Henderson with Mamady Sidibe in attack, while Matthew Jarvis could start in midfield.

Wolves: striker Kenny Miller will be missing from the line-up. The Scotland international is suspended following his dismissal in the 2-1 victory over QPR.
South Korean striker Ki-Hyeon Seol is set to partner Carl Cort up front, with Shaun Newton replacing him on the left side of midfield.
Mikkel Bischoff has extended his loan spell from Manchester City by a further month and he will continue to partner Joleon Lescott in defence, with Jody Craddock left out.
Mark Clyde is also expected to miss out with an ankle injury but goalkeeper Paul Jones should return to after a stomach bug.

Bischoff's Loan Extended

Wolves have extended defender Mikkel Bischoff's loan for another month.
His loan was due to expire after the Sunderland game on Tuesday, with Mikkel set to return to Manchester City.
But now as part of the loan deal, City now have the right to recall the player, giving just 24 hours notice.

Reserves Draw

Wolves reserves drew 2-2 against Sunderland reserves at Durham's Archibald Park yesterday.
Sunderland took the lead after 15 minutes when Sean Thornton squared a pass to Michael Bridges who was left with the easiest of tasks in rolling the ball past Matt Murray.
Their second came a minute later when Murray appeared to have Chris Brown's firm shot covered only for the ball to spin from his grasp and into the net.
After 28 minutes gone Wolves pulled one back through Clarke. The young striker got a firm head to Gobern's centre from the right and although Ben Alnwick managed to paw the ball away from under the bar, Clarke latched on to the rebound and netted with a low shot from six-yards.
Wolves drew level through Davies who hit an unstoppable shot from 20-yards into the bottom corner of the net after he had taken a pass from Clarke.

Sunderland Reserves: Alnwick, Lynch, Dodds, Collins, Christensen, Leadbitter, Oster, Thornton, Brown, Bridges, Dickman.
Unused Subs: Kingsberry, Wanless, Ryan, Clarkson.
Wolves Reserves: Murray, Little, Rafferty, France, Bjorklund, Townsend, Gobern, Davies, Sturridge, Clarke, Musson.
Unused Subs: Riley, Hennessey, Fitzpatrick, Bennett, Askey.
Attendance: 534.

Injury News

The physio's at Molineux are hopeful that defender Rob Edwards will be pushing for a return to first team football by the New Year.
He suffered ankle ligament damage early on in the season and underwent surgery to rectify the problem and is now a third of the way through his rehabilitation programme.

Striker Vio Ganea won't be fit though for around six months, in twelve weeks time he'll start running. He is at the stage where there's no swelling, he's got a full range of movement but the joint needs strengthening to make sure he'll be able to withstand running when the time comes.

Academy youngster Daniel Jones has suffered a broken leg in a freak accident during training at Compton yesterday.
No one was near him when he jumped to control the ball and he landed awkwardly. He suffered a fracture to his femur ( which is basically the thigh bone). He will be having an operation to repair the break within the next couple of days.
Daniel, who won't be 18 until December, has made two appearances for the reserve team this season and was a regular in the Academy under 18 team.

Academy Draw

Wolves under 18s drew 1-1 with Bolton at Compton on Saturday.
Bolton scored first in the 59th minute, when one of the Bolton forwards hit a cracking shot from 25-yards into the top corner of the net.
Wolves equalised 14 minutes from the end, Tom Stewart ran onto a through ball and hit a low shot home from 10-yards.

Bischoff Wants Loan Extended

On loan defender Mikkel Bischoff has said he wants to extend his loan spell at Molineux. The 22-year-old has made a major contribution in the two Molineux victories inside five days to take some of the heat off the under-pressure boss Dave Jones.
And now the Man City player is hoping Kevin Keegan and Dave Jones can come up with a deal that will see him spend at least another month at Molineux.
Bischoff said: "Wolves have been really good to me since my arrival at Molineux, I know it is out of my hands but I will be really happy if something can be arranged between the two clubs."
Bischoff says he can prove to City what a good player he is if he has the chance of staying.
"I feel I am improving all the time and, if I am given the chance to stay with Wolves for another month, it could help me finally make my mark with City," he added.

Match Reaction

Wolves manager Dave Jones saluted two-goal Carl Cort after the 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers at Molineux - then told him he has to score more.
Under-pressure Jones admitted Wolves made life difficult for themselves after Kenny Miller was sent off for a second yellow card.

"Those goals will do Carl a power of good but now he has to move forward and get more," said Jones.
He added: "It was all about killing off the spirit of Rangers and I thought we did that particularly in the first half.
But he warned: "We made life difficult for ourselves in the last 25 minutes after Miller was sent off but we hung on for the all-important points.
"This was a good win for us and all the signs are good."

Jones criticised Miller, who was sent off for a second yellow after showing dissent towards referee Lee Probert.
"Miller must learn you just can't do that - you have to hold your tongue," he said.
"You can't say anything to the referee. I felt he handled the game well when the conditions were atrocious because of the rain."

The dangerous Cort opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a marvellous header from Kevin Cooper's right-wing cross.
Then in the 69th minute Cort made it 2-0 with a superb shot from Seyi George Olofinjana's pass.

Wolves: boss Dave Jones is hoping defender Joleon Lescott will be fit to face QPR at Molineux.
The centre-back has been experiencing discomfort following surgery on his knees but could return to action against Ian Holloway's side.
Mark Clyde and Rob Edwards are certain to miss out after being laid low by ankle problems, while goalkeeper Paul Jones is struggling to recover from a stomach bug.
Strikers George Ndah, Dean Sturridge and Vio Ganea remain under treatment for thigh, back and cruciate knee ligament problems respectively.

QPR: welcome back Tony Thorpe from an ankle injury, and Matthew Rose's recovery from illness sees him step back into the squad after missing out on the midweek defeat to Preston.
Jamie Cureton is expected to be out for another two weeks with his hamstring problem, whilst Georges Santos is a doubt with an Achilles injury.
Danny Shittu is also ruled out meaning on-loan Frankie Simek will probably continue in defence.

20th October 2004

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Dave Jones is breathing much easier after his under-achieving side secured a much-needed victory at Molineux as they beat Derby 2-0.
The beleaguered manager was under pressure after a run of three successive league defeats had left his team among the Championship stragglers.
But he saw his players respond with an improved performance that brought them their first home win since beating Everton in the FA Barclaycard Premiership at the start of May.

"I drove to the ground and saw billboards saying it was D-Day for me," Jones said. "But we worked the ball well and there were a lot of good performances.
"It was all about three points tonight and we did well from start to finish. We were up for it and well in control of the game.
"The only way the players are going to get confidence is by winning games. I can't inject it into them."

Jones, on the back foot after chief executive Jez Moxey described himself as "sick to the stomach" with Wolves' plight, joked he had been arguing against the awarding of a 17th-minute spot-kick for his side.
"We were shouting that it was not a penalty," he added. "We told the referee it was outside the area!"

It was a reference to the West Midlanders' appalling record from the spot in recent months but Kevin Cooper, once of Derby, went some way to rectifying that nightmare by blasting home.
The penalty came when Derby keeper Lee Camp blatantly brought down Colin Cameron as they chased Kenny Miller's through ball - an offence for which he was sent off.
Substitute Derby keeper Lee Grant had little to do but was also beaten by a tremendous curling free-kick from Cooper four minutes after half-time. from sportinglife.com

  Camara Won't Return

Henri Camara is adamant that he will not be returning to Wolves when his season long loan deal expires at Celtic.
Celtic have the option to sign the striker and Camara is hopeful that he can convince Martin O'Neill to make his stay permanent.

"Whatever happens, I am never going to go back to Wolverhampton," Camara told the Daily Record.
"I am at a big club now and am making progress. If I were to go back there now I would be moving in the wrong direction.
"I am now with a huge club and playing for incredible fans - I have never seen supporters like this anywhere in the world - and I don't want to take a step down.
"I need to progress - that's why it's so important that I never go back to Wolverhampton. I watch TV and see them struggling even to win games in the English First Division - that's not for me.
"I also know that if I can score goals and keep Celtic in this competition then the club will make more money and that might make it easier for me to stay. That's what I'm hoping for."

Camara forgot to mention that had he not missed so many easy goal scoring opportunities when Wolves where in The Premiership they may not have been relegated. Plus a large percentage of Wolves fans don't want him back after his behavior in the summer and this unnecessary statement is bound to be the final nail in his Molineux coffin.

Team News

Wolves: Defender Mark Clyde is out of tomorrow's match with Derby.
Scans have confirmed the Northern Ireland international has suffered ankle ligament damage and he is expected to spend at least a month on the sidelines.
Goalkeeper Paul Jones, who has fallen behind Michael Oakes in the pecking order, could be struggling to even make the bench after contracting a stomach bug.

Derby: boss George Burley will make a late decision on whether defender Jeff Kenna is fit enough for the short trip to the West Midlands.
Kenna has been rated as having a 50-50 chance of making the squad after falling victim to a hamstring injury.
Midfield duo Inigo Idiakez and Morten Bisgaard have been ruled out by respective hamstring and hip injuries while central defender Mo Konjic is sidelined following a knee operation.

Youngsters Win

Wolves acadamy under 18s beat Liverpool under 18s 2-0 on Saturday morning at Compton Park.
The first goal came after half-an-hour when Gareth Musson headed in from eight-yards from Stephen Gleeson's free-kick.
Wolves second goal was in the 74th minute when Elliott Bennett took the ball down the line and beat the full-back before crossing to Tom Stewart who scored with a right-foot shot from ten-yards out.

16th October 2004

Match Reaction

Wolves manager Dave Jones insists he will carry on at the club after his side lost 1-0 at Nottingham Forest.
Andy Reid's wonderful strike just before the break was the difference between the sides at the City Ground.
But the Republic of Ireland midfielder was then sent off for a professional foul on Kevin Cooper in the penalty area - although goalkeeper Paul Gerrard then saved Shaun Newton's spot-kick.
Jones was under pressure after chief executive Jez Moxey said he was "sick to the stomach" after the club's poor start to the season.

But Jones remains philosophical and said: "If it happens, it happens. I can only do my best.
"I have no influence on outside pressure but I put myself under immense pressure because I want to be the best.
"We're in a results business. If people think someone else can get better results then that is out of my hands.
"All I can do is come to work, get my head down, and I expect my players to do the same.
"I don't know what the comments were, but if I read everything then I wouldn't get out of bed. I've been told he (Moxey)'s 'sick to his stomach', well I'm sick to my stomach as well.
"The consolation is he has a bigger belly than me," he joked.
"The hierarchy are entitled to have a moan and groan if the results aren't there, if my players aren't getting the results then I can have a moan at them.
"I just keep fighting, I was born a fighter. I've done it before, I've been through things in my life where I've had to fight and scrap - why should I entertain stopping?
"If I have to drag this team by the bootlaces then I will." from sportinglife.com

Team News

Nottingham Forest: defender Michael Dawson could make his first senior appearance, he hasn't featured for the first team this season having undergone surgery to rectify groin injuries sustained during pre-season.
But after proving his fitness with a 90-minute midweek outing with the reserves, Dawson has returned to first-team contention.
Central defensive colleague John Thompson remains sidelined by a long-term shoulder problem while strikers Gareth Taylor and Craig Westcarr have been ruled out of the equation after operations to rectify knee injuries.
Andy Reid should feature, though, despite picking up an ankle knock while on World Cup qualification duty with Republic of Ireland this week.

Wolves: manager Dave Jones is expecting to be without versatile defender Mark Clyde.
Clyde turned his ankle during a midweek training session with Northern Ireland and has been ruled out of contention while there are also question marks hanging over the fitness of Joleon Lescott, who is experiencing continued knee problems.
On-loan Manchester City defender Mikkel Bischoff should be available, though, despite concussion sustained following a clash of heads on the training ground.
Winger Mark Kennedy is in line for a recall after two months out of action with medial knee ligament trouble.

Two Players Go Out On Loan

Wolves young striker Gary Mulligan has joined Rushden and Diamonds on a month's loan. He made his debut for the Wolves first team when he came on towards the end of the League game at Burnley in August.
Mulligan has joined the League Two side ahead of their home game against Chester on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has also gon out on loan, he has joined Conference side Accrington Stanley.
The 18-year-old has yet to make a first team appearance for Wolves, but was an unused substitute in seven of the club's Premiership games last season. His main action was for the reserves and Academy teams.
Last month he signed a new four-year contract at Molineux.

12th October 2004

Reserves Win

Wolves reserves beat League leaders Birmingham City 2-1, with Kennedy playing the full 90 minutes and supplying the crosses for Leon Clarke two goals.
Clarke got his first ten minutes into the second-half, he put Wolves 1-0 up after good work from Kennedy.
Birmingham equalised in the 79th minute when Carl Motteram centred from the left and Curtis ran in at the far post to sidefoot home.
Clarke grabbed the winner in the 89th minute, Kennedy who drilled the ball into the heart of the City area. Gobern won possession and tried to work a shooting position for himself but was crowded out. So he slipped the ball to the unmarked Clarke to the right of goal and his low shot, this time from his left foot, left keeper Nico Vaesen with no chance.

Birmingham Reserves: Vaesen, Blake, Alsop, Oji, Painter, Howland, Birley, Kilkenny, Barrowman, Curtis, Motteram.
Unused Subs: Hall, Doyle, Reynolds, Howell, Hamilton.
Yellow Card: Kilkenny.

Mark Kennedy is making his return this evening after a two month injury lay-off, because of damaged medial knee ligaments after a tackle by Preston's Graham Alexander.
He is likely to play at left-back for Wolves' reserves in their game against Birmingham tonight.

New loan signing Mikkel Bischoff has been forced to withdraw from this evening's reserve game against Birmingham, which was going to be his first game for Wolves.
He was taken to hospital for an x-ray after clashing heads with a team mate during training this morning, the tests revealed there was no fracture but he did suffer concussion.
Mikkel will undergo further tests tomorrow before being allowed to return to training.

International Call-Ups

Wolves have had six players called up for international duty in the World Cup qualifying matches, which are scheduled to take place this Saturday 9th October and then Wednesday 13th October.
The players are Paul Jones for Wales who play away to England on Saturday and home to Poland on Wednesday. Colin Cameron and Kenny Miller for Scotland who play at home to Norway then away to Moldova. Mark Clyde for Northern Ireland who play away to Azerbaijan and home to Austria. Seyi Olofinjana for Nigeria who play away to Gabon only on Saturday. Seol for Korea who play away to Lebanon only on Wednesday.

Boss Dave Jones is not happy because the next training session scheduled to have most of the squad present is at 2pm on Thursday 14th October.
He said on WOW: "It doesn't give us much time to prepare, given that the game against Forest is Friday night.
"It amazes me that we are asked to play a game on Friday when half your team has been away on international duty but we'll just have to hope they all come back fit and get on with it."

3rd October 2004

Match Reaction

Defiant Wolves chief Dave Jones insisted he is still the right man to lead the club despite their sixth away defeat of the season that leaves them only two points above the relegation zone.
Joleon Lescott, impressive at the back for much of the match, made the vital mistake that let in Sheringham for the winner when he failed to control a through ball.

"We said at half-time that the team that made the mistake would be punished, and unfortunately it was us," he said.
"I am not feeling the pressure, but it is true that I am concerned. But I do not think change is the best thing for this club.
"If you ask me if the work of the last three-and-a-half years should be thrown away, then my answer is 'no'.
"But we are in a business where people will hype things up and I can't do anything about that. All I can do is get the result, and today I didn't."
