Butler Signs
Wolves have signed Sunderland
defender Paul Butler for £1 million, which could rise to £1.3 million if
Wolves win promotion to the premiership.
who spent a month on loan at Molineux before Christmas.
The 28 year old's contract,
is for three and a half years and manager Dave Jones says: "I'm pleased
it's all signed, sealed and delivered. Paul's a very experienced
player."
He spent a month on loan at Molineux before Christmas, but when Colin Lee
was sacked he didn't want to sign a permanent contract with Wolves until a
new manager had been appointed.
The clearly delighted Butler said: "I didn't want to leave in the first
place but, under the circumstances, it was hard for me to come back without
a manager here".

Flo Comeback
Norwegian international striker
Havard Flo has made his comeback after being out for six months in a behind
closed doors reserve friendly at Sheffield United.
He fell victim to tendonitis, a condition that led to a operation in the
summer and him missing six months of the current campaign.
Tuesday afternoon's match will be the first action for Flo since mid-April
last year when he played in the 1-0 defeat at Norwich.
Fixture Update
Preston v Wolves, originally
postponed ten days ago because of a frozen pitch, will now take place on
Wednesday 14th March, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
The fifth round FA Youth Cup tie
with Wimbledon will definitely go ahead at Molineux on Tuesday, 6th
February, kick off 7.00pm.

Jones Warning
After Wolves defeat in the 4th
round of the FA Cup at the weekend Dave Jones has said "No more
excuses, let's start growing up." He will be looking to bring in some
new players after seeing the areas that need strentghening.
Sami's Gone
Saudi International striker Sami
Al Jaber has made his inevitable departure from Molineux at the end of his
unsuccessful five-month loan, Wolves boss Dave Jones said he had offered the
striker an additional trial period as he hadn't seen much of him.

Ticket Promotion
Wolves are hoping their 'Seven
heaven' ticket promotion will see their biggest crowd of the season when
they play Gillingham at Molineux next Saturday.
Adults can get in anywhere in the ground for £7 - and concessionary groups
for £5, ticket sales so far suggest that
the attendance will exceed this season's biggest of 24,306 who watched the
Boxing Day match with Preston.
27th January 2001
Wycombe 2-1 Wolves
A suprise change in the Wolves
line-up as Mike Stowell replaced Oakes in goal, after Oakes failed a late
fitness test. Micheal Branch came closest to scoring for Wolves in the 24th
minute, after Proudlock crossed from the left, it hit Branches shin and
rattled the crossbar, Wycombe took the lead in the 37th minute when Rammell
scored from a corner.
Wolves started to dominate the second half, with Pollett hitting the
crossbar, then in the 59th minute Robinson headed the ball into the back of
the net to level the scores. It looked like Wolves then settled down to
defend for the replay at Molineux, but then in the 85th minute Wycombe
regained the lead with a headed goal from substitute Parkin to knock Wolves
out of the FA Cup.

Roussel Signing
Coventry's Belgian striker
Cedric Roussel could be joining Wolves in time for the visit of Gillingham
next Saturday.
Dave Jones is confident of completing the
deal and has all but confirmed he is hot on the trail of the 23-year-old
former Under-21 international and believes a fee of £1.5 million will be
enough to lure Roussel to Molineux.
The striker hasn't played for Coventry since being substituted in his side's
1-1 draw with Southampton on the Friday before Christmas and the bulk of his
appearances this season have been limited to substitute's roles.
Al-Jaber Chance
Sami Al-Jaber could be staying
at Molineux as Wolves are prepared to extend his loan spell, but they are
still not willing to pay his club Al Hilal their £1m asking price.
Dave Jones feels he hasn't had enough time to assess the Saudi Arabian
striker and until that happens, the club will not be breaking the bank to
offer him a permanent deal.
Much now rests on how the player feels after representing his country in a
forthcoming international but should he decide he wants to give it one more
go in England then the Wolves management would probably be willing to
accommodate him.
Watching Collett
Wolves boss Dave Jones is
keeping an eye on Darlington's goalkeeper Andy Collett as the search for a
goalkeeper intensifies. Mike Stowell's return to fitness has helped the
Wolves goalkeeping worries, but the Wolves management want to arrange
adequate cover for the future.
John Ward knows all about the 27-year-old, having signed him from
Middlesbrough when in charge of Bristol Rovers.

Tranmere Rovers, but then fell behind to and then slipped to their first

Le Tissier Says No
Matt Le Tissier
has told Wolves that he doesn’t want to join them on loan. Le Tissier is
out-of-contract at the end of the season but wants to stay at the Saints.
Ketsbaia Interest
Greek team AEK Athens are believed
to
be ready to make a move for Temuri Ketsbaia.
The former Newcastle striker has failed to make any real impact at Molineux since his £800,000
move, and is having to be content
with reserve football.
The Greek side are keen to get Ketsbaia back on their books,
and if they come up with the right money then Wolves will definitely sell.
Dave Jones has money to spend on new faces but he is also keen to clear out
the players he feels are surplus to requirements.
23rd January 2001
Defender To Sign New Contract
Wolves defender Ludo Pollet is
on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new two and a half year contract
that will extend his stay at Molineux until the summer of 2003, his present
contract was due to last for another 18 months. Pollet has come through training
confidently and he has headed a ball for the first time since he was helped
off at Turf Moor after breaking his nose. He is expected to play in some
of the reserves game at Tranmere Rovers on Wednesday evening.
Striker
Linked
Wolves, Burnley and Preston
NE are all being linked with a move for Carl
Asaba after his move to Crystal Palace collapsed. The Gillingham striker couldn't agree personal terms with
the Eagles, but that hasn't stopped a succession of other clubs trying to
sign the highly rated marksman.
22nd January 2001
Taylor Out for Season
Wolves striker Robert Taylor may
not play again this season because he needs an operation to cure a
long-standing calf problem. The injury-plagued 29-year-old
has yet to score a league goal in a Wolves shirt after completing only one
Division One fixture since his £1.5m move from Manchester City. Now he faces up to three more
months on the sidelines and could be out of action until the beginning of
next season.
European Signing?
Dave Jones could be ready to
make his first signing for Wolves following two scouting trips to Europe in
the last week.
Jones has identified that he needs to strengthen Wolves midfield and centre
of defence, and confirmed he is eyeing a young player as he looks to
re-build the squad.
At this stage he isn't saying who, but it is known the boss has firm links
with clubs in Eastern Europe, which is where he is understood to have
visited over the weekend.
Jones has been given £1.5million to spend with the Molineux board working
hard to generate more funds.
Another Trial
Wolves have given Elfsborg
defender Joakim Alexandersson another chance to earn a deal at Molineux.
Alexandersson arrives at Molineux today looking to impress manager Dave
Jones after his first trial was cut short when he broke his nose.
Assistant boss John Ward recommended Alexandersson to Jones after being
impressed with him during his previous visit at the club.
Alexandersson said: "It feels great to be going back. I will show what
I am capable of and hopefully earn myself a contract."
Le Tis' to Sign?
Wolves boss Dave Jones is
reportedly planning a bid to bring Matt Le Tissier from Southampton to
Wolves on loan, with a view to a permanent move.
Le Tissier has been out for three months and is eager to return, but could
find his options limited at Southampton, his current contract runs out at
the end of the season and Jones would like to bring the hit-man to Wolves on
loan soon, and if successful, sign him permanently at the close of the
season.

Injuries Update
Long-serving keeper Mike Stowell
is returning to the first team, replacing young Aaron Kerr on the bench. Stowell
has
been out with an ankle injury since November, but has stepped up his training this
week and has been rewarded with a call to action.
Ludo Pollet has returned to training
, with a plan to fully participate from next Monday. The French defender broke
his nose in the game against Burnley on New Year's Day, could be playing in
the reserves' game against Tranmere next Wednesday.
George Ndah is also returning
following his less serious ankle injury, and Mohamed Camara has reported
back after his international outing in Guinea's Nations Cup game with Togo
which finished goalless.
20th January 2001
FA Cup Sell Out
Wolves have sold out of their
ticket allocation for the FA Cup tie at Wycombe next Saturday. Adams Park holds 10,000
supporters and Wolves were allocated 1650 tickets which were quickly snapped
up by the club's season ticket holders.
19th January 2001
Match Off
After a 12 noon inspection
Preston officials have called off Wolves match against Preston NE at Depdale,
because of a badly frozen pitch at Deepdale. No date for a restaging of the
game has yet been decided on. The Wolves under 19s home game
with Manchester City and the under 17s match at Aston Villa have both fallen
foul of the weather as have all of the Academy's Sunday fixtures.
18th January 2001
Wolves Reach Settlement (www.wolves.co.uk)
Wolverhampton
Wanderers FC are pleased to announce that an amicable settlement has been
reached with former manager Colin Lee over the termination of his contract
on December 18 2000. Colin Lee joined
Wolves in December 1995 as an assistant to Mark McGhee and took over the
manager's post following the departure of McGhee in November 1998.The Club would
like to thank Colin for his efforts whilst at Molineux and wish him all the
best for the future. No further
comment will be made by Wolves or Colin Lee.
Injuries Update
Wolves are confident that
defender Ludovic Pollet will be fit to return to face Wycombe in the FA Cup.
Pollet is back in training after suffering a broken nose in the New Year's
day victory at Burnley, but is set to put that behind him and return to
action against the Second Division side
Striker George Ndah is set to
return to action at Preston this weekend after shaking off a stomach bug and
an ankle problem.
Boss Off Again
Wolves manager Dave Jones has
said that he's off to Europe again next week as he looks to strengthen the
Molineux squad with new players.
Jones just returned to Molineux after wathing two games on the continent,
but after Saturday's trip to Preston he will off on another scouting
mission.
Jones could be ready to start spending next week, and he said: "I am
following up on players I have already seen - and others I have been told
about.
"I will be out and about again after the weekend with John Ward and we
will keep looking until we find the men who can improve the squad."
Jones is keeping his destination a closely guarded secret but it is known he
has a number of good contacts in Eastern Europe.
17th January 2001
Sami Finished?
Wolves boss Dave Jones has
hinted that Saudi Arabian international Sami Al Jaber will be offloaded by
the club at the end of the month as he'd rather spend the transfer fee on a
couple of players.
The striker is only contracted at Molineux until the end of January and
early reports suggest that the Jones will not keep him on the books.
Wanderers v Wanderers
Wolves will face Wycombe
Wanderers in the fourth round of the FA Cup after the Wanderers claimed a
shock 3-1 win at Grimsby last night.
The match will take place on 27th January at Adams Park.
Jones Scouting
Mission
Wolves manager Dave Jones is
flying to Europe on his first scouting mission that could lead to his
opening Molineux signing.
Jones is taking in two matches on the Continent in the next 36 hours and is
off on his travels again for an overseas game this Sunday.
"I will go to Timbuktu if I have to in order to look at players,"
he said. "I love getting out and looking at games and this is part of
that process."
"I'm watching a couple of matches when I go tomorrow, then I'm off
again on Sunday. But it's only the start."
He's also made it clear he wants a chief scout, a position the club haven't
filled since the departure of Norman Wooster in September of last season.

Naylor Scouted
West Ham United scouts were at
Molineux on Saturday reportedly watching Wolves defender Lee Naylor.
The Hammers are keen to bolster their Premiership squad after the loss of
Rio Ferdinand.
But with new Wolves boss David Jones seeing Naylor as one of the key figures
in Wolves' future, any Hammers approach for the 20 year-old would surely be
unwelcome.
Sinton in Contract Talks
Andy Sinton's contract at
Molineux runs out this summer so he is in talks with new boss Dave Jones
about a new deal with Wolves at the end of the season.
Sinton feels he still has a big part to play in Wolves bid to win
Premiership football.
And he says that lining up alongside Wolves promising young stars has given
him a new lease of life.
"I am hoping to be offered another year or even two years," said
Sinton
"I want to finish my career with Wolves.
"I have already had a couple of chats with the new manager and he has
told me my experience can be a big help to the younger players as they come
through the ranks."
Transfer Targets
The new Molineux manager
Dave Jones was disappointed his team failed to win in his first home
game in charge over the weekend, and is ready to start
spending to strengthen his Wolves squad.
And he emphasised that weak areas in the team need to be plugged as a matter
of urgency.
"You don't have to be an expert to realise that the team needs fresh
blood," he said.
"That was obvious when you look at the way we performed in the 1-1 draw
on Saturday.
"I do have a number of transfer targets in mind and I will be making
inquiries this week to see if I can start bringing in the players I want.
"I will be looking to but new men and to bring in others on loan.
"I have put feelers out but it could take time.
"The men I want have got to be a lot better than the players I already
have on the books."
Cup Suspensions
Wolves have been hit by a double
suspension for their FA Cup fourth-round match on Saturday week at Grimsby
or Wycombe.
Kevin Muscat was already absence from the tie, but now Tony Dinning has been
ruled out as well.
Dinning received his fifth booking of the season when playing in the Wolves
defence in Saturday's Molineux 1-1 draw with Portsmouth.
Wolves will be hoping to have Ludovic Pollet back by then following his
badly broken nose.
14th January 2001
Pollet in Contract Talks
Wolves have started contract
talks with defender Ludovic Pollet after some interest from Fulham and
Leicester.
Boss Dave Jones has made it known that contract negotiations are under way
to try to keep the Frenchman at Molineux when his current deal expires at
the end of next season.
But there's rumours that the 30-year-old's compatriot Jean Tigana is
considering him as a replacement at Fulham for car-crash victim Chris
Coleman.
Ex manager Colin Lee signed Pollet from Le Havre in September last season
for a bargain £350,000, and Pollet would love to play at the highest level
after his late arrival in England and Fulham appear certain of promotion in
this, Tigana's first season at the helm.
Leicester are also thought to be keeping a watching brief on the situation,
although they are currently pushing hard with West Ham for Blackburn's £2.5m-rated
defender Christian Dailly.
Peter Taylor's side have lost some of their defensive solidarity in
mid-season, but interest in Pollet would probably only develop if the Dailly
trail went cold for them.
Jones, hoping to have his No 1 defender and last season's Molineux Player of
the Year back in action by next weekend or the one after, said: "Ludo
wants promotion and we are talking contracts with him at the moment."
13th January 2001
Wolves 1-1 Portsmouth
A defensive error cost Wolves
the lead in the first half after Andy Sinton had put them in the lead with
his first Molineux goal. Second half Michael Branch had a chance to put
Wolves back ahead when he was one on one with the Portsmouth keeper but shot
wide, then a couple of minutes before the end Wolves were awarded a penalty
but Kevin Muscat put it over the bar.

Wolves: David
Jones' first game in charge at Molineux will bring an unchanged side.
Forward George Ndah, has recovered from a sore ankle but faces a test after
picking up a stomach bug. Regular benchwarmer Mohammed Camara is away for
ten days with the Republic of Guinea for Sunday's African Nations Cup clash
with Togo.
Portsmouth
Pompey have been rocked by the news that Welsh midfield ace Ceri Hughes
needs surgery to repair a hole in his groin muscle. He will be out for a
month, but will soldier on at Molineux before going under the surgeon's
knife next week. Player-boss Steve Claridge and Scott Hiley (both ankle) are
doubtful.

Injury Updates
Wolves will be boosted by the
return of striker George Ndah this weekend to first team action.
The injury plagued striker didn't play in new boss Dave Jones’ first game
in the FA Cup away to Nottingham Forest because of a niggling ankle injury.
But Ndah is now back in full training and ready to join the squad who will
take on Portsmouth.
Dave Jones says his goalkeeping
crisis could be resolved inside the next two weeks by the return to fitness
of Mike Stowell Stowell has been out since he had surgery on a troublesome knee injury.
Jones currently only has one experienced keeper available for selection
Michael Oakes, although teenager Aaron Kerr has been on the bench for the
last two games.
But according to Jones, Stowell now looks certain to be available again for
selection ; he’s been sidelined
French defender Ludovic Pollet
is also reported to be making good progress after surgery on his badly
fractured nose.
Wolves say the bone is knitting together well and they expect Pollet to
resume training next week.
And if all goes to plan, the influential defender could be in line for a
recall for the trip to Preston a week on Saturday.
Another Injury for Ndah
George Ndah who had most of his
first year at Molineux ruined by a broken leg and then two niggling
injuries, has turned his ankle on the
training ground. He had been a first team regular
since mid-November but now he's back on the sidelines, hopefully not for too
long.
Muscat Out of Cup Tie?
Wolves could be without skipper
Kevin Muscat when they travel to Grimsby or Wycombe in the fourth round of
the FA Cup. The club are still
awaiting official confirmation, but the booking that the defender picked up at
Nottingham on Sunday was his fifth of the season and he now is almost
certain to miss miss the cup tie.

Too Late
Manchester City are expected to
beat Wolves to complete the signing of Stockport goalkeeper Carlo Nash today
for a fee of around £100,000.
Nash has confirmed that he is currently in talks with City boss Joe Royle
and expects to put pen to paper today. City first made their approach for
Nash on Friday and though new Wolves boss Dave Jones, a former Stockport
boss - although not when Nash was at the club - made a late bid for the
keeper, he appears to have left it too late.
Nash said: "I haven't spoken to Wolves. As far as I'm concerned I'm
waiting to finalise things with City and that should hopefully happen
tomorrow. It's what I've been waiting for.
"My ambition has always been to play in the Premiership and I'm one
step closer to that now."

Transfer Updates
Wolves boss Dave Jones is
planning his first Molineux signings.
He is hoping to nip in ahead of Premiership Manchester City to secure the
signing of Stockport keeper Carlo Nash, who was on loan at Molineux. Also
Paul
Butler's proposed move to Wolves could be back on with Dave Jones understood
to be keen on reviving the deal.
Butler returned early to Sunderland from his spell on loan at Molineux after
Colin Lee was sacked, because he didn't want to sign for a club with no
manager.
Butler said: "In those circumstances I didn't want to commit myself to
a move, but I don't think that I have much of a future at Sunderland so I'm
open to offers."
Sunderland boss Peter Reid is expected to discuss the situation this week.
"Paul is a decent player and he has done a good job for us, but he is
available for transfer and we will consider offers," he said.

Bully's 15 Minutes
Wolves
goal scoring legend Steve
Bull made his first appearance for Hereford United against Northwich
yesterday in the Conference League after signing a new contract on Friday, he came on as a
substitute but had to quit after 15 minutes with a pulled hamstring and
Hereford lost 1-0.

Team News
Wolves: will have young
keeper Aaron Kerr on the bench providing back up for Michael Oakes.
The 18-year-old keeper has been recalled by Wolves from his Christmas break
in Ireland, with Mike Stowell and Matt Murray out with long-term injuries.
New manager Dave Jones will also be without the injured Ludovic Pollet for
his first match in charge, which means that Kevin Muscat will probably move
into the centre of defence, with Ryan Green getting a rare start.
5th January 2001
Sami's Back
Sami Al Jaber returned to
Molineux today after he was given compassionate leave from Wolves just
before Christmas to visit his sick father whose health has now improved. The
Saudi International did not start a League
game under former manager Colin Lee, and is now looking forward to the chance of
impressing the new manager of Wolves.
Jones First Targets
Wolves are considering a renewed
bid for Sunderland central defender Paul Butler and the purchase of keeper
Carlo Nash before Dave Jones's first League match in charge.
In the countdown to Sunday's FA Cup third-round tie at Nottingham Forest,
Jones today admitted Butler was one of the options for strengthening a
central defence that was short on numbers even before this week's loss of
Ludovic Pollet for three weeks.
And the new manager is to step up his long-term interest in Nash, the keeper
Stockport recalled last weekend following a loan spell at Molineux.
Bully Comeback
Wolves
legend Steve Bull could be resuming his playing career for Hereford United,
where he has been a coach since retiring from playing in 1999 because of a
serious knee injury. Bull
could return to first team action next week against Reading at Edgar Street
in the LDV Vans Trophy, but Graham Turner will mainly be using him as a
substitute.
Rofe not Interested
Southampton reserve team
coach Dennis Rofe will not be following former Saints boss Dave Jones to
Wolves. He is believed to have been
offered a job by Jones following his move to Molineux on Wednesday.
Speculation had been mounting that Rofe would be leaving The Dell after he
was recently pictured with Jones at a Wolves game. But Southampton officials
insist he is doing a job for Glenn Hoddle and staying on the south-coast.
4th January 2001
Ward
to Pick Team
John Ward will be guiding
new Wolves manager Dave Jones through the first week of his reign at
Molineux. Jones has asked Ward to help
out for Sunday’s FA Cup tie and pick the team. Jones said: "I spoke to
John Ward last night (Tuesday). I will have to be guided by him on the team
to play Forest in the FA Cup third round. I will rely on his judgment." Jones has already started to
establish the current strengths and weaknesses of the squad at Wolverhampton
and already knows who his first targets are.
Team News
Wolves
defenders Ludovic Pollet and Kevin Muscat are struggling to be fit for this
weekend's FA Cup clash with Nottingham Forest.
Pollet suffered a broken nose in the New Year's Day victory over Burnley at
Turf Moor and is facing surgery which could see him missing for at least
three weeks, if the injury doesn't heal quickly.
Muscat is suffering from an ankle injury which has been hampering him for
the last couple of matches, but he will now spend a couple of days in the
treatment room, having played through the pain barrier recently.

New Manager To Be Named On
Wednesday (www.wolves.co.uk)
Wolves have called a press
conference for 10.30am on Wednesday morning when the club will announce its
new manager. The hot favourite for the
position is reported to be former Stockport and Southampton boss, Dave
Jones. A full interview with the new
manager will appear on the official website tomorrow morning.
Molineux on Brink of Manager Deal
(www.westmidlands.com)
Wolves were today on the brink
of unveiling Dave Jones as their new manager.
Molineux was on a state of high alert as the final touches were put to a
deal that is likely until at least the summer of 2003.
All that appeared to remain was the calling of a media conference after
Jones had followed up his successful round of interviews by watching
yesterday's victory at Burnley from the directors' box.
He wasn't seated among the Wolves contingent, but his presence there was a
clear sign that an announcement was imminent.
He has since called off an engagement with Radio 5 at tonight's Tottenham v
Newcastle game and is said to have turned down the Barnsley manager's job
that was offered to him before the weekend.
And Jones has raised speculation that he could be bringing one of his
Southampton backroom team, Dennis Rofe, to the West Midlands with him.
Rofe, still reserve coach and effectively fourth in command at The Dell
behind Glenn Hoddle, John Gorman and former Wolves coach Stuart Gray, was at
Jones's side at Turf Moor.
If the former Leicester and Southampton left-back, who also had a spell as a
Wolves scout, becomes part of the Molineux backroom team, it raises major
doubts against the position of John Ward and Terry Connor.

Burnley took the lead in the 8th
minute against the run of play after some good pressure from Wolves, then in the
28th minute Adam Proudlock put the scores level. In the Second half we had
to wait until 5 minutes before the end to see a goal, and it came from Lee
Naylor's free kick.
