Wolves: hope to welcome
back Jody Craddock after the centre-back missed Saturday's 2-1 defeat at
Colchester with an Achilles tendon injury.
But forward Jay Bothroyd is likely to be out once more with a thigh
problem.
Barnsley: captain Paul
Reid is rated doubtful for the trip to Wolves after a recurrence of an
ankle injury.
Simon Davey will welcome back midfielder Sam Togwell from suspension in
his first match in charge since being appointed as manager.
Match Reaction
First-half goals by
prolific duo Jamie Cureton and Chris Iwelumo secured Colchester their 11th
home win on the trot but left Wolves manager Mick McCarthy fuming.
McCarthy was angry after his side's 2-1 defeat at Layer Road after Iwelumo
appeared to handle the ball on his way to scoring the Us' second goal on
the stroke of half-time.
McCarthy said: "I felt it was a clear handball and everyone on the
ground saw it but the decision was made. We had a poor start but we had
started playing well and their second goal was hard to take."

Away Fans Plan Protest
from: The Football Supporters’ Federation
FOOTBALL FANS SLAM WOLVES V CARDIFF AWAY BAN
Football fans across England & Wales have united to condemn the ban on away fans imposed for the forthcoming Wolverhampton Wanderers v Cardiff City Football League Championship match to take place at Molineaux on Saturday 20 January 2007.
The ban on supporters travelling from Wales has been imposed against the wishes of both sets of supporters. Commenting on the ban, Cardiff City Supporters’ Club chair Vince Alm said, “We’ve offered to take every reasonable step to ensure that the supporters of both sides can enjoy the game in peace. We wanted to work with the police and Wolves to make this happen. We’ve been ignored. It’s completely wrong that City fans shouldn’t be able to follow their team. I know that Wolves fans weren’t happy at being banned from attending games at Millwall a few seasons ago. Away fans are a vital part of the game. You wouldn’t have thought so based on this decision. It’s a disgrace.”
Muriel Bates of Wolverhampton Wanderers Supporters’ Club said, “We’re not happy about the ban either. I wasn’t able to attend the meeting of the local safety liaison committee that decided to recommend this. It’s all very disappointing.”
Football Supporters’ Federation chair Malcolm Clarke (a Stoke City supporter) added, “Despite our strong representations and those of Cardiff City itself, the Football League board has voted to accept the ban. We put the blame for this problem firmly at the door of Wolves club management. They’ve seemed all too eager to promote this ban. We’re also disappointed that the League board hasn’t stood up for the peaceful majority of Cardiff fans who want to do nothing more than follow their team and who’ve now had their matchday ruined. It’s true that there’s been some trouble at this game in the past couple of seasons, but the answer is not to surrender to violence.
“The ban has created an angry divide between all the Cardiff fans and the authorities, whereas the divide should be between the small number of hooligans on one side, and the majority of law-abiding fans, the police and the clubs on the other. The authorities must realise that you don’t defeat hooliganism by punishing the innocent majority of decent fans. Even at this late stage, we hope the League, Wolves, the police and supporters of both clubs can get round the table and work out an arrangement that will permit City to fans to watch the game.”
Cardiff City fans, backed by the FSF, are planning to demonstrate against the ban in Wolverhampton on the day of the game if there is no last minute change of heart by the authorities. “Even if we can’t go to the game we’re determined to make our point and protest against this ban” said Vince
Alm.

against Luton by grabbing the opening goal, and he will once again be
involved.

Michael Kightly misses out through suspension, so Rohan Ricketts is likely
to be recalled.
Jay Bothroyd (thigh) is missing, Jody Craddock (Achilles) is doubtful and
Kevin O'Connor is still out of action.

Match Reaction
Wolves boss Mick
McCarthy rated Wolves 2-0 win over Derby at Pride Park as "the best
performance of the season".
Midfielder Seyi-George Olofinjana and winger Michael Kightly scored the
visitors second-half goals, though woodwork twice saved them as the Rams
David Jones hit the crossbar before half-time ahead of Steve Howard
rattling the foot of the post in the second half.
Victory took ninth-placed Wolves to within one point of the play-off
places while favourable results elsewhere meant Derby hung on to third.
And McCarthy said:
"Derby were better than us and they beat us at our place earlier in
the season, but now we have repaid the compliment.
"It was the best performance of the season, coupled with the right
result but I feel we could have picked up more points by now and we should
be in a better position."
Olofinjana netted his
second goal of the season in the 67th minute while Kightly, who joined
Wolves from Conference side Grays with the view to a permanent transfer in
January, bagged his second goal in four appearances during stoppage time.
"We have agreed a
deal with Grays," said McCarthy.
"And we are confident we have signed a good player.
"But he has not been plucked from obscurity because he had a
professional upbringing with Southend before he was released and joined
Grays.
"He scored plenty of goals for Grays last year and he is a bright
boy."
But McCarthy was cold
on reports he could move for Dagenham striker Craig Mackail-Smith and
George Boyd of Stevenage.
He said: "We have been looking at those players because we had good
reports about them.
"But we are not suddenly going to fill our team with non-league
players.
"It has worked well with one player but I am not clever enough to
fill the team with them."

Hope you all have a great
Christmas, I'll be back Boxing Day with the match updates.
Team News
Derby: defender Marc Edworthy is available for the home side after missing the 0-0 draw at Burnley.
Indeed Billy Davies' side, seeking to extend a five-game winning run at Pride Park, are free of any injury or suspension worries.
Wolves: striker Jay Bothroyd (thigh) is a doubt, but winger Lewis Gobern has recovered from a thigh injury.
Mark Davies (knee) will likely miss out, as will Kevin O'Connor (hamstring) and Charlie Mulgrew (ankle).
Match Reaction
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy was a relieved figure after his side claimed a point at the death.
It was, in fairness, probably what the home side deserved after delivering cross after cross into the Norwich penalty area but with little or no effect until Craddock stole forward and produced what McCarthy described as a "Steven Gerrard finish".
McCarthy noted wryly that had he had someone of Earnshaw's finishing power in attack then the result would have been different.
"What we need is a bit of devilment in the box," said the Wolves boss, a long-time friend of Grant's from their days at Celtic.
"Had we had someone of Robert Earnshaw's ilk perhaps we would be sitting here talking about three points.
"I think we've checked and we have had some 30 crosses into their box. If there was going to be a winner I think we deserved it."
Of those 30, on-loan Grays Athletic winger Michael Kightly delivered the majority.
"I thought he was outstanding," said McCarthy.

Wolves: midfielder Karl
Henry is available again after suspension and is expected to come in for
Darren Potter.
Defender Kevin O'Connor is certain to miss out with his hamstring injury,
while Carl Cort, Charlie Mulgrew and Gabor Gyepes are also sidelined.
Norwich: Jason Shackell is set

Winger Lee Croft could figure after making his return from the bench last

Collins Loan Could End
Sunderland defender Neill Collins
could decide against extending his loan at Molineux due to a lack of first-team action.
The 23-year-old joined Wanderers in November but has yet to make a single senior appearance for
Wolves.
And with the loan due to end after the turn of the year, Wolves manager Mick McCarthy suspects Collins might prefer to return to the Black Cats.
McCarthy said: "Neill is here until January and then we will take a view on it, but Neill will have to take a view too because he wants to play.
"If we had injuries then he would have come in, but the centre-halves have been playing very well.
"I can understand a lad his age wants to play and that he will take that into consideration."
20th December 2006
O'Connor To See Specialist
Wolves midfielder Kevin O'Connor will see a specialist to discover the full extent of his hamstring problem.
The 21-year-old has been out of action since suffering the injury during a reserve team friendly against Walsall in September.
He said on WOW: "I haven't torn a muscle, it just suddenly came in the friendly game and I havent been able to shift it since.
"I'm going for another scan on Thursday that will hopefully shed light on it."
19th December 2006
Fixture Update
Wolves match against Cardiff City
on Saturday January 20th 2007 at Molineux, will now kick-off at 1pm.
The decision to bring the kick-off forward by two hours was taken after the club received a request for an early kick-off from the police.
No Cardiff fans will be allowed to attend this match, but some Cardiff fans have said they intend to hold a demonstration in Wolverhampton on the day of game.
The move not to allow visiting supporters to attend this fixture was reaffirmed by the Football League at a recent board meeting, despite Cardiff City Football Club asking for the decision to be reversed.
Club secretary Richard Skirrow said on WOW: "The police are concerned that there may be a gathering of Cardiff fans protesting about the ban on away supporters.
"We appreciate that changes to kick-off times can cause inconvenience to our supporters but we feel it is important to assist the police and comply with their request."
18th December 2006
Reserves Draw
Wolves reserves drew 1-1 with
Aston Villa reserves at Bodymoor Heath.
Villa took the lead in the 35th minute when Scott Bridges headed home a cross from Phil Green.
Mark Davies equalised for Wolves in the 63rd minute after he took a return pass from Rohan Ricketts. The midfielder's first shot came back to him off a defender but he found the back of the net with his second effort, despite Henderson getting a hand to the ball.
Shortly after his goal he had to leave the field but physio Alan Peacham
stressed on WOW: "There is no major problem. Mark's knee was a little sore and we decided to take him off purely as a precautionary measure."
Aston Villa Reserves: Henderson, Green, Samuel, Hughes
(capt), Djemba-Djemba (W. Ricketts 45), McDonald, Hogg, Bridges, Gardner (Bannan 61),
Whittingham.
Unused Subs: Parrish, Clancy, Griffiths, J. Collins, Room, Simmons.
Wolves Reserves: Oakes, Edwards, Clapham, Riley (Bailey 29), Lowe, N. Collins, Finkler (Davies 45) (Jones 71), R. Ricketts, Johnson, Clarke, Jones (Bennett 12).
Unused Subs: Hennessey, Tulloch, Hughes.

Match Reaction
Michael Kightly scored
his first league goal to hand Wolves a 1-0 win at QPR - but still received
a flea in his ear from manager Mick McCarthy.
Kightly, who is expected to make his loan move from Conference club Grays
permanent when the transfer window re-opens next month, volleyed a
49th-minute winner to crown an impressive second-half display from
McCarthy's side.
Kightly wasted chances to make the result more convincing - and he was
ticked off by McCarthy for his profligacy.
"I told Michael he
should have scored four - and he should," McCarthy revealed. "I
am hard to please, and he knows that.
"Michael is a player who has scored goals for Grays this season and
last, and our scouts recommended him highly.
"He looks like a good acquisition. He is on loan until the window
re-opens, and I would think we would sign him permanently.
"He looks like he is going to score every time he gets into the box,
and he is taking his chance."
As good as Wolves were
in the second half, they were awful in the first, and McCarthy criticised
their display in the opening 45 minutes.
It was only Wolves' second win in seven matches, and McCarthy was at a
loss to explain their first-half showing.
"I don't have a clue why it keeps happening," he admitted.
"Maybe we should get the scoreboard to show 45 minutes when we come
out.
"Perhaps we should give them a rollicking before the game starts,
because the second-half performance was terrific.
"I wish I had the answer, then I would not have had to watch such
poor stuff for 45 minutes on the last three occasions."

QPR: welcome back striker Ray Jones and defender Zesh Rehman who were both suspended for last week's defeat at Stoke after collecting five bookings.
Winger Lee Cook returns following a rib injury and boss John Gregory may be tempted into a formation change.

McCarthy could also hand striker Craig Davies a start in a bid to solve
Wolves goalscoring problems.

Injury Update
Mick McCarthy confirmed that
Carl Cort is unlikely to be fit until the spring which puts his Molineux future
in doubt with his contract expiring this summer.
The boss confirmed that the knee operation Cort underwent last month is likely to require several more months of rehabilitation.
the Wolves said on WOW:
"We are not going to see much of Corty this season - it takes a good while to come back from that (kind of
operation.
"It can take four to six months.
"His contract isn't even an issue at the minute. It's unfortunate but that's the way it is. It's just the way it's transpired.
"It's a shame for him and it's a shame for us because I thought he was doing well when he came back and played. He holds the ball up well and he's the type of player you want to have in there.
"He's just got to get himself fit and we'll take it from there. Let's hope he can get himself fit around the end of February or March."
But Wolves should have a festive boost with the return
of young midfielder Mark Davies.
He was back in action for the reserves this week after missing the first half of the season with a cartilage injury.
The boss is reluctant to rush the Academy graduate back too soon but is confident that he will recover his match fitness quickly.
13th December 2006
January Transfer Update
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has warned fans
not expect much ahead of the January transfer window.
The club's owner Sir Jack Hayward confirmed recently that there would be money to spend but McCarthy is not prepared to pay over the odds or bring players to Molineux just for the sake of it.
McCarthy said on WOW: "The January transfer window can be something of a damp squib.
"Everyone sees it as a big opportunity to make a key signing but unless you've got fortunes to pay over the odds for players it doesn't always work out like that.
"If you look back historically at the business that's been done in January, it's not as big a deal as you might think.
"If teams are vying for promotion or battling relegation, they are not going to want to let good players go. And the Premiership teams always want to keep their squads as strong as possible.
"We are looking but I don't want people to think we are suddenly going to get a new telly and a new front room.
"We have the nucleus of a good side here who are giving me everything.
"I'm happy with that but if we can improve we will."

Friendly Win
Wolves reserves beat Leicester City
reserves 1-0 today in a behind closed doors friendly at Leicester's training
ground.
Wolves almost made a great start with Liam Hughes netting after just 17 seconds only to be ruled marginally offside.
Riley got the only goal of the match in the 61st minute, playing in midfield rather than his customary central defensive
position, a corner from Jones was half cleared and when the winger regained possession he returned the ball into the box. Riley's header hit a defender and bounced back to the youngster who hooked an unstoppable half-volley into the roof of the net.
Wolves: Oakes (Hennessey 69), Lowe, McNamara, N. Collins, Clyde, Riley, Bennett, Ricketts, Hughes, Finkler (Davies 69), Jones.
Unused Subs: Salmon, L. Collins, Bailey, Askey.
At the request of Leicester City FC,
Wolves named none of their players in the report of this afternoon's behind closed doors friendly.
Transfer News
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy
admits he might let Brazilian midfielder Gui Finkler move on in the
January transfer window.
The South American moved to the Championship side in the summer, when he
was brought to England by then caretaker manager Stuart Gray.
McCarthy feels Finkler is not the right type of player to fit into his
system, having chosen to play a 4-4-2 formation that has no room for the
man on a season-long loan at Molineux.
Willing to concede that a parting of ways may be the best solution for
both parties, McCarthy admits he is willing to discuss Finkler's future.
"We'll just have
to see," he told the Birmingham Mail.
"Gui isn't figuring, and I guess if he gets the chance to play some
football then, for him, that would be important.
"If there's a position where he can get some football then we'll have
to discuss it."
Plymouth Argyle have tabled a
second and final contract offer to midfielder Tony Capaldi.
The Northern Ireland international rejected the first offer made to him by
the Championship club, with the player's current deal set to expire next
summer.
The former Birmingham City man has since been linked with a return to the
Midlands with Championship rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Despite showing an interest in keeping the 25-year-old at Home Park,
Pilgrims boss Ian Holloway has warned they may have to let the player
leave in January.
"We have put in
our final offer and I am yet to talk to him about it," Holloway told
the club's official website.
"He has got to talk to his agent, who is a very nice man and is
trying to do the best for his client.
"We have made one offer and they have come in with a response of what
they want. We can't offer them what they want, but we will offer as much
as we can go to, and I will try and convince him that is right.
"I have inherited a situation where it has been let go. If I was here
last year, I would have tried to sort it out because it would have been a
lot easier.
"We are trying to offer him a new deal and I would like him to stay,
but if we can't match up with what he wants, then he will have to go in
the window."
10th December 2006
Match Reaction
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy felt they did enough in the second half to have picked up a share of the spoils.
"I thought we played really well after the break and we took the game to them," said McCarthy.
"I certainly don't think we deserved to lose that match after our second-half performance. But mistakes are made and we have lost.
"The lack of goals is doing us no good at all at the moment. If we had something in the goalscoring charts it would certainly improve our position."

VOTE IN THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE AWARDS INCORPORATING
FOURFOURTWO’S TOP 50 FOOTBALL LEAGUE PLAYERS
-Wolves fans to have their say on The Football League’s best player-
The Football League Awards are back and this season Wolverhampton Wanderers fans can have their say on which Football League players should make FourFourTwo’s prestigious Top 50 list.
Following on from the inaugural Football League Awards which took place in March 2006, the 2007 event will once again recognise footballing excellence on and off the field, with clubs and players honoured alongside fans. There will be 18 award categories in total, including a range of football awards and industry specific
honours.
FourFourTwo’s Top 50 Football League players will also be announced at the ceremony which will take place at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Sunday 4th March 2007.
Fans wishing to vote for the players they believe should be in the reckoning for a place in the Top 50 should visit www.fourfourtwo.com. The votes will be counted and a shortlist drawn up for an expert panel to judge.
Everybody who votes on the website will be entered into a draw to win tickets to The Football League Awards, to see the FourFourTwo Top 50 Football League players announced at the awards evening in March.
The Football League Awards are designed to recognise footballing excellence on and off the field, with clubs and players honoured alongside fans. There will be 18 award categories in total, including a range of football awards and industry specific
honours.
Commenting on the return of The Football League Awards, the Chairman of The Football League, Lord Mawhinney said: “Following the success of the 2006 Football League Awards, this year’s event will once again recognise the outstanding contributions made to The Football League by fans, clubs, players and sponsors.
“We want fans to get even more involved this year and they can do just that by having their say on who should make it in to The Top 50 Football League players.”
The January issue of FourFourTwo magazine is out now, and contains further details of how to vote, and also a list of suggested Football League players from each club to get the voting started. Wolverhampton Wanderers currently have Gary Breen, Matt Murray and Seyi George Olifinjana on the list of suggested players, but fans can nominate others on the FourFourTwo website.
Editor of FourFourTwo magazine, Hugh Sleight said: “The fans watch these players week in week out, so we want as many of them as possible to tell us who they think are the best players in The Football League. We received a great response to the 2006 FourFourTwo Top 50 Football League players, and so we really wanted to hear the views of the fans this time around in the decision process.
“The Football League Awards are a great platform to celebrate the achievements of the players in The Football League, and FourFourTwo is proud to be involved for the second year of the Awards.”

Wolves: on-loan winger Michael McIndoe and striker Leon Clarke are doubts. McIndoe has a hamstring strain while Clarke has a sore knee.
Central defender Jody Craddock is expected to feature against the Foxes after recovering from a head injury.
Leicester: captain Paddy McCarthy is suspended, but they have other players back in contention.
Darren Kenton in available after five games out, while Gareth Williams, James and James Wesolowsky are fit if needed.
Murray Signs New Deal
Matt Murray has signed a new three and a half year contract at Molineux.
The deal will automatically be extended by a further 12 months if Wolves get
promoted to the Premiership at any point during the length of the contract.
The move ends months of speculation over the future of the keeper whose existing contract was due to expire at the end of
next season.
Manager Mick McCarthy had previously hinted that the club might consider parting with Murray next summer if a deal had not been reached.
Murray came through Wolves youth teams and has received rave reviews for his performances so far this season.

Boss Re-assures Striker
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has assured unhappy striker Jay Bothroyd his substitution at Southend was for his own good.
McCarthy had been critical of Bothroyd's workrate in previous games and opted to replace the 24-year-old with 73 minutes gone in Saturday's 1-0 win at Roots Hall.
Bothroyd was clearly unhappy with the decision but McCarthy has smoothed over the incident.
The Molineux boss said: "Jay has got to apply himself in every game, just like everyone else - and if they do not do it, they do not play.
"Jay had done well but he got cramp after doing a lot of legwork.
"He shook his head when the board went up but it was obvious he needed to come off, so I told him not to pull his face and re-assured him I was delighted with the performance he had given me."

Davies Update
After making a return to first team
training this month, Mark Davies is hoping to step up his rehabilitation.
The young midfielder underwent surgery to repair cartilage in his knee after suffering an injury in the pre-season friendly with Aston Villa. The academy graduate is now keen to make a comeback in a reserve friendly before the New Year.
He said on WOW: "I am feeling
fine.
"I didn't train yesterday as a precaution but I am back training with the first team squad tomorrow.
"I am doing work with the physios as well, and working in the pool to help with strengthening the knee.
"There might be some reserve games coming up before Christmas and the physios have said I should be OK to play in them, so I am looking forward to that.
"I just want to be playing football again, and so any match can't come quick enough, although I need to make sure I don't rush things after the time that has been taken to make sure the injury properly heals."

Youngster Has Loan Extended
18-year-old midfielder Stephen Gleeson is to spend another month out on loan at League Two club Stockport County.
He was due to return to Molineux but he will now stay at Edgeley Park until the New Year.
Although he has yet to break through into the first team with Wolves, Gleeson has played four times for County and he is expected to figure this evening's game against Milton Keynes Dons at the National Hockey Stadium.

Craddock Update
Wolves captain Jody Craddock is
hoping to be fit for next weekend after suffering a head injury during Saturday's game at
Southend.
He didn't know he'd headed home the only goal of the game. A clash of heads resulted in him being stretchered off and taken to the local hospital for tests.
Craddock said on WOW: "I've had to watch the goal on telly because I don't remember it. I can remember from about ten seconds before the free kick and then sitting on the stretcher outside the changing rooms.
"Efe Sodje was able to carry on. The clash was just one of those things - no intent.
"I didn't have a headache after just a sore neck. But providing that's ok I should be fit for the weekend. The test that they did showed I was ok."
The goal was Jody's third in six games, but the defender was just as pleased with helping keep a clean sheet at the other end.
He added: "I normally aim for one or two goals per season so I'm really pleased with this. But the balls into the box that I have got on the end of have been quality.
"It was great to find out I'd got the goal that earned us three points but I'm just as happy that we kept a clean sheet."

FA Cup Draw
Wolves have drawn Oldham Athletic
from League One at home in the third round of the FA Cup.
The tie is scheduled to be played on Saturday 6th January 2007.
Match Reaction
Mick McCarthy set his sights firmly on the Coca-Cola Championship play-offs after watching his Wolves side grab a first win in five attempts at the expense of basement boys Southend at Roots Hall.
McCarthy was furious after Wolves threw away winning positions in their last two games, but he insists Jody Craddock's brave second-half header will kickstart his side's season following a hard-fought 1-0 win.
"This game was a turning point for us," said McCarthy.
"We had played 20 games, we were nine points from the top and 10 from third-bottom.
"So we asked ourselves 'which way do we want to go?'. That was the message before the game and three points takes us the right way. A defeat here and we might have had problems."
Craddock was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after being carried off following his goal, one McCarthy in his playing days as a no-nonsense centre-half would have been proud of.
The defender threw himself among a sea of bodies to get on the end of Michael McIndoe's free-kick, but after diverting the ball past Darryl Flahavan he came off worse from a collision with giant Shrimpers centre-back Efe Sodje and left the field on a stretcher with a nasty gash above his eye.
"My brave headers were usually at the other end - I only scored 12 goals - but I would have been pleased with that one," added McCarthy.
"You get exactly what it says on the tin with Jody. He gives you 100 per cent, he's competitive and is a great member of the team.
"He's a brave lad and he would take an awful lot of knocking out. Hopefully he'll be able to come back on the bus with us."
