Match Reaction

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy saw his side earn a 1-1 draw at Norwich with a first away goal in over 10 hours of football but felt they should have gone on to win the game.
Andy Keogh nodded home a perfectly weighted cross from Michael Gray seven minutes into the second half to end the visitors' long goal drought on the road.
It was a well-deserved lead for Wolves but Norwich were the better side for the remainder of the game and got back on level terms a quarter of an hour from the end when Jamie Cureton latched on to a Dion Dublin flick-on before slipping the ball past keeper Wayne Hennessey.
McCarthy was grateful for a goal but annoyed that they had not built on it.

"When you score a goal like that you wonder why you have gone so long without getting one," he said. "It looked so easy.
"Norwich's goal looked easy as well, a long ball flick-on and it's in the back of the net, which I'm not best pleased about. Of course scoring goals isn't easy, that's the way it looked at times today.
"At the end of the day I'll take a point but I'm not happy with it because we should have won the game.
"I think everyone could see we played well enough, and created enough chances, to have come away from here with all three points.
"You come back to the lack of goals again. We should have scored more than one today and in the end we got punished for that."

McCarthy was full of praise for goal hero Keogh but said he would be looking to strengthen his attacking resources during the January transfer window.
"I am delighted for Andy", he said, "I wasn't sure whether he would be available today because he had been suffering with a cold. I asked him to give me 70 minutes and he's played really well and come up with a goal.
"I'd say that was Andy Keogh back to his best. But the fact remains, we are not scoring enough goals and I'll certainly be looking to do something about our 'goals for' column during January."

Racheal Hayhoe Flint In New Years Honours List

Wolves vice president Rachael Heyhoe Flint has been awarded an OBE in the New Year's Honours List in recognition of her services to cricket.
Rachael, 68 from Tettenhall, was captain of the England women's cricket team and the first woman to become a member of the MCC, she'd previously been awarded an MBE for services to the women's game.

Rachael said on WOW: "It came as a complete but lovely surprise, I feel very honoured.
"The letter arrived in mid-November and asked that I treated the news in confidence.
"So I just told my husband Derek and the dog - and swore them both to secrecy!"

An avid Wanderers fan since she was young, Rachael took on a public relations role at Molineux when her long-time friend Sir Jack Hayward bought the club in 1990.
Since then she has served on the board of directors and, after retiring from that position, was appointed an honorary life president in august 2005.
In addition to her work in football, Rachael is president of the Lady Taverners, a branch of the Lord's Taverners, cricket's official charity.
She also had the honour of serving on the MCC's general committee.

27th December 2007

Match Reaction

"We did okay in the first half but in the second we produced a very lacklustre display and they were better than us in every department," said Mick McCarthy.
"When they got their goal they showed great desire and they dominated the game. I do believe I've got the players and I keep looking for that something that's going to spark us off.
"The league is still very tight and that is a silver lining to a very dark cloud at the moment. We're having a difficult spell but we have to rally round and support each other."

Gibson Loan Extended

Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson has extended his loan at Molineux until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old moved to Wolves in October initially until January and has made eight starts, scoring once.
Boss Mick McCarthy had previously expressed an interest in retaining the Republic of Ireland international as cover for Nigeria international Seyi Olofinjana who leaves for the African Cup of Nations in January.

23rd December 2007

Match Reaction

Mick McCarthy's second-half substitutions woke up lacklustre Wolves and earned them a point against Leicester after they had been outplayed in the first half.
A 73rd-minute goal by Matt Jarvis on his home debut cancelled out a stunning free-kick by the Foxes' Scottish-born Canadian international Iain Hume in the fourth minute.
And Wolves boss McCarthy said: "It is difficult when we conceded after four minutes - it was always going to be nervy after that happened."
According to the former Republic of Ireland boss, the free-kick should have been awarded to Wanderers.
He continued: "They scored with a free-kick - I don't think it was a free-kick. I think it was a free kick to us.
"Overall, I was delighted with the response of the players, especially second half.
"I was delighted when Matt Jarvis got a goal - that will do his confidence no end of good and I was delighted with the response of Freddy Eastwood and Andy Keogh coming off the bench."

The crowd were chanting for Eastwood in the first half and the side were booed off at half-time. Prior to this game Wolves had earned just one point in nine.
McCarthy argued that Eastwood, who came on at half-time, and 70th-minute substitute Keogh, did as expected.
He explained: "It is a 16-man squad that we have and that is the response I've been looking for coming off the bench.
"Four games ago I would have said we are doing really well - I'm really pleased.
"Having taken two points in four games that's not god enough for a team trying to get out of the division.
"We don't have a divine right to go through the league and win every game - when we were winning games we weren't singing from the rooftops.
"The difference this season is the expectancy after finishing in the play-offs last season. It was something we knew would happen and we have to deal with it."

Gary Breen is not yet ready to return while Michael Kightly (ankle) will again definitely miss out.

Chasetown To Train At Compton

Wolves have given FA Cup heroes Chasetown a boost ahead of their FA Cup third round tie with Cardiff.
The Staffordshire based team from the British Gas Business Southern League Midlands are the lowest placed league side ever to reach the third round proper and have been offered the use of Wolves state-of-the-art training facilities at Compton on Friday 4th January, ahead of their tie on the 5th.
Charlie Blakemore, Manager of Chasetown, said on WOW: "This is a fantastic gesture by Wolves and the best Christmas present we could have wished for.
"Along with many of the lads, I'm a big Wolves fan and it's a great honour for us.
"It adds to the magic of the FA Cup and it will be another great memory for the lads to take away from our Cup run."

18th December 2007

Jones Loan Update

Northampton Town boss Stuart Gray is hoping to extend Wolves defender Daniel Jones loan spell.
Jones linked up with Northampton in August and has made 22 appearances for the club in all competitions.
He has impressed Cobblers manager Gray, who is looking for his Wolves counterpart Mick McCarthy to give him permission to keep hold of the youngster.

Gray said: "It's a conversation I've had with Mick McCarthy and Mick wants to look at it a bit nearer the time.
"Obviously they're pushing for the play-offs and things like that, and Jones is 6ft 2in, he's got a lovely left foot, loads of pace, and he's in form as well, so they might have a look at that.
"The problem we would have is that they would have an instant recall, but we're doing everything we can to extend his time at this club.
"I know he's really enjoyed his spell here and if he keeps putting performances in like the one at Forest on Saturday then I'm sure he will want to stay for longer. There's no way that Wolves want to sell him or go down that road at all."

17th December 2007

Collins Extends Loan

Wolves defender Lee Collins is to spend a second month on loan at League Two side Hereford United.
The 19-year-old full-back earned an extended stay following an impressive first month at Edgar Street.
Collins, who made his debut in the Bulls' 3-2 win over Stockport, has made seven appearances, providing cover in the left and right-back berths.
He will now be available for Hereford's third-round FA Cup tie at Tranmere Rovers on 5th January.

16th December 2007

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy defended Stephen Elliott after the striker's glaring second-half miss meant his side had to settle for a goalless draw at QPR.
Elliott had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock on 70 minutes but nudged Darron Gibson's right-wing cross wide of the target from close range.

But McCarthy said: "Stephen's all-round performance was excellent. He did all the horrible jobs like chasing and holding the ball up.
"He just needed the icing on the cake by putting away that chance. But he was brilliant. His all-round effort and things like running into the channels was terrific.
"We're not prolific - we know that. If we were, we'd be higher up the league. We continue to strive to improve our goalscoring record and it's something that we'll work at on the training ground."

The draw continued Wolves' disappointing recent form but stopped the rot following two consecutive defeats.
McCarthy admitted: "I didn't want to lose three on the bounce.
"There's always the thought: 'Can I do something with the subs on the bench to win the game?' But the game can also be lost.
"With the players on there we were playing well. It's not as if we'd gone stale. So I'll take that draw, wipe my gob and get on with it."

Wolves winger Michael Kightly claims he is not interested in a January move to Serie A side Torino.
The Italian outfit are rumoured to be lining up a £2million bid for the England Under-21 international, but Kightly insists he is staying at Molineux.
He told the Shropshire Star: "I seem to be getting linked with a few clubs and to be linked with a big side in Serie A is a big compliment. It means I must have been doing something right.
"But I don't want to move on - I'm absolutely committed to playing for Wolves. I love it here and I want to get them promoted into the Premiership."

Kids A Quid!

The Football Association have launched an initiative to let children watch selected FA Cup third-round games for just £1.
Six matches have been selected for the 'One FA Cup' promotion, where adults attending as either a home or away fan will be able to buy a child's ticket for a pound.
The FA are funding the initiative and have chosen matches based on geographical location which also feature sides from various levels.
"The third round of the FA Cup, with lower league and non-league teams aiming to upset teams from the top end of the game, has a unique and special place in the football calendar," said chief executive Brian Barwick.
"Viewing figures on television and match attendances are strong and we want to build on that by giving as many families, and especially children, the chance to experience the magic of the tournament live."

The six selected for the 'One FA Cup' promotion are:
Blackburn v Coventry
Plymouth v Hull
Bolton v Sheffield United
Sunderland v Wigan
Huddersfield v Birmingham
Wolves v Cambridge

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy insists he will not be letting any of his young stars leave the club in the January transfer window.
Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey is being linked with a move to Everton, while Michael Kightly has long been rumoured to be a target for Premier League clubs.
However, following the team's good start to the season and the investment from Steve Morgan, McCarthy wants to see players arriving at Molineux rather than leaving.

9th December 2007

Match Reaction

Mick McCarthy acknowledged Wolves must return to form quickly.
He Said: "I thought their front two (Andy Gray and Robbie Blake) were brilliant - they caused a lot of problems.

"We have got to get back to form."

McCarthy Committed To Wolves

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has ruled himself out of becoming the new coach of South Korea and has committed his future to the Championship club.
Former Republic of Ireland manager McCarthy had been named on a two-man shortlist by KFA president Chung Mong-joon for the job along with former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier.
But McCarthy said on WOW: "I was very flattered to be contacted and to be considered a candidate alongside someone of the calibre of Gerard Houllier.
"But I have always been committed to the job at Wolves and I'm staying."

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy endured an unhappy return to his home town as his side missed a chance to climb into the automatic promotion places.

He said: "We were hopeless, I can't find a better adjective for that performance.
"I'm not going to take anything away from Barnsley, they were very competitive and fully deserved their win.
"That was us three or four weeks ago, that level of performance (by Barnsley) and we have to get back to it."

Wolves academy graduate Martin Riley has had his contract at Molineux terminated by mutual consent.

FA Cup 3rd Round Draw

Wolves have drawn non-League Cambridge United at home in the third round of the FA Cup.
The match is scheduled to be played at Molineux on Saturday, 5th January 2008.
Cambridge are currently third in the Blue Square Premier League and have been defeated just once in the League this season

Match Reaction

A 1-0 win over Preston kept Wolves in the promotion race but Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy believes they had enough goalscoring opportunities to provide a far more convincing scoreline.
Karl Henry's 55th-minute strike secured the points for Wolves who have scored just three goals in the last four games but have amassed 10 points in that period.
"We could have been 2-0 up before the game started," said McCarthy.
"Whatever we do - we don't get beat."

For the second game running Wolves missed their creative inspiration Michael Kightly but still provided enough chances for a four or five-goal lead over a team that started the day with goal difference separating them from bottom place in the Championship.
In the second minute, both Elliott and Eastwood hit the same post for Wolves and Eastwood was gifted another opportunity a minute later.
"If we don't play that free-flowing football that we like to play - we win the game," said the former Ireland boss.
"I'm pleased it was Freddy who missed three goals.
"He's the fans hero at the moment and if it was anyone else the fans would have got on their back."

The strikers failed to get on the score sheet but midfielder Henry saved their blushes with a 25-yard shot.
"He was fantastic," said McCarthy. "We have been banging on to Karl to pull the trigger."
