Davies Loan Could Be Extended

Wolves midfielder Mark Davies could be set to remain at Leicester after Foxes manager Nigel Pearson revealed he is keen to extend his loan spell when the transfer window opens.
The 20-year-old, who Pearson knows from his time working with the England youth set-up, has impressed the boss of the League One outfit during his month-long stint at the Walkers Stadium.
Pearson said: "I am delighted with how he has done. I know he is a good player and I am delighted with his contribution.
"I would want to keep him. We are looking at the situation and, hopefully, it will be resolved very shortly."
Davies has made six appearances for Leicester and scored one goal. It came earlier this month in City's 2-1 win over Carlisle at Brunton Park.

29th December 2008

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy was disappointed with the manner in which his side conceded late on, but insisted he was satisfied with his team's showing.
The Black Country side end 2008 with a seven-point advantage at the top of the table, but McCarthy warned they must remain focussed if they are to achieve their goal of automatic promotion.
"We can't win them all," he said. "It's just not going to happen.
"I'm delighted with our second-half display. It was a free-kick that cost us and I felt we could have dealt with that better, but we're unbeaten over Christmas and that's good.
"I said a number of things at half-time, but the main point was that I thought they were playing the conditions better than we were.
"They were playing for throw-ins, corners and free-kicks and they were causing us some trouble. I felt we had to try and stop them doing that and play exactly the same way as them.
"If we had to go and fight with them, do it in their half.
"It's a tough old league and that's been proven again tonight.
"I always believe the target for promotion is 92 points, but all we can do is make sure we get our own tally of points. We can't worry about anyone else."

Merry Christmas, to all visitors, best Christmas present a Wolves fan could have, Top Of The League!!

Team News

Wolves: leading scorer Chris Iwelumo returned from injury as a substitute against Doncaster on Saturday and will be pushing for a start.
Jody Craddock (broken toe) is close to a return, but Matt Murray and George Elokobi are long-term absentees.

Sheffield United: Darius Henderson is suspended while James Beattie (calf) faces a late fitness test.
Gary Speed, Sun Jihai and Derek Geary are all ruled out while Nick Montgomery and Gary Naysmith are doubtful.

Mancienne Loan Extended

Wolves have extended the loan of Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne until the 29th January and will try to keep him for the rest of the season.
20 year old Mancienne arrived at Molineux in October and his current deal was due to expire on the 29th December.
Wolves have won six of the eight games Mancienne has played in and are currently seven points clear at the top of the Championship.
Mancienne was called up to Fabio Capello's England squad last month for the friendly against Germany in Berlin but did not feature in the match.

21st December 2008

Match Reaction

Boss Mick McCarthy said after the match: "One the lads said afterwards that it could be one of the best wins of the season and I think it could be.
"It was a fantastic result against a side who are well organised and well coached.
"They are good in possession of the ball and always have been.
"The first half was really even and they perhaps just shaded it.
"But we were the ones who were trying to win it in the second half."

Goalscorer Collins was only named in the starting line-up because on-loan Chelsea rookie Michael Mancienne pulled out shortly before kick-off due to a migraine.
Collins took his chance in style to heap more misery on Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll, who watched his struggling side largely dominate proceedings in an opening half which saw both teams strike the woodwork.
McCarthy added: "Michael had a migraine and as a centre-back it wasn't the place to be.
"Neill has been great and never complained about being left out and it was a great goal."

James Coppinger is sidelined with an ankle injury and Brian Stock is back in training following a calf problem but may not feature this weekend.

Matt Jarvis, Sam Vokes and David Jones are hoping to be involved and veteran defender Jody Craddock is in contention after recovering from a broken toe.

Bennett Loan Extended

Elliott Bennett will stay at Bury until the end of the season after the 20-year-old's loan deal from Wolves was extended.
The midfielder was due to return in January but Bury boss Alan Knill told BBC Radio Manchester: "Mick McCarthy is happy for him to stay with us.
"It's fantastic from Wolves. They were here last weekend to watch him."
Bennett has started all 24 games for Bury so far this season, scoring one goal at Dagenham and Redbridge.

17th December 2008

Transfer News

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy could be poised to make a January loan move for Chelsea's Scott Sinclair after reiterating his interest in the young winger.
McCarthy tried to bring the 19-year-old to Molineux back in October after losing Matt Jarvis to injury, but instead brought Carlos Edwards in on loan from Sunderland.
But with Edwards having been re-called and McCarthy keen to maintain Wolves' place at the top of the Championship, he now looks set to again try and put Sinclair in a gold and black shirt for the second half of the season.

"I've contacted Chelsea about Scott Sinclair and he can't come out until the window, so everyone knows I've got an interest in him," said McCarthy in the Express and Star.
"But there were about 22 other clubs interested in him at the time, which was when we lost Jarvis. I rang instantly and we tried them all - Scott Sinclair, Carlos Edwards and other names. I still like Scott as a player.
"We looked to see what we could do and we got Carlos. I would love to have still had him here, but that's not the case. But all that could change."

Ikeme Signs New Deal

Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract, which will keep him at Molineux until the summer of 2012, a two-year extension to his previous contract.
Ikeme became a regular starter for the first time earlier this season until suffering a gashed knee during the away win at Sheffield United, after which Wayne Hennessey reclaimed his place as Wolves first-choice keeper over the last four games.
Although Ikeme was fit to return to the Wolves squad for Saturday's win against Barnsley, he was left on the bench. But with injury jinxed Matt Murray having been ruled out for the season with a new knee injury, Wolves see Ikeme as a big part of their future.

Wolves Lose Friendly

An experienced Wolves team were on the end of a narrow defeat to a young Sunderland outfit in a competitive lunchtime friendly at Compton.
Wolves led at half time through Sam Vokes but goals from Jack Colbach and Nathan Luscombe earned the visitors the victory.

Vokes broke the deadlock in the 14th minute, latching on to a left wing cross from Jarvis and coolly slotting the ball home.
On 55 minutes Sunderland drew level, Colbach firing in at the near post.
The winning goal arrived in the 73rd minute, the referee's assistant flagged for offside as Luscombe was put through but the referee overruled the decision, allowing the Sunderland player to cut inside and found the net with an angled drive.

Wolves: Ikeme, Collins, Craddock, Shackell, Friend, Gobern (Hemmings 45), Potter, Salmon, Jarvis (Rosa 73), Gray, Vokes.

14th December 2008

Match Reaction

Boss Mick McCarthy said after the match: "I said to the players when we saw those really wonderful performances a few weeks ago that it wouldn't be like that every week.
"We could have put the game to bed earlier than we did but they had some good chances and caused us problems.
"You just have to win, whether it's good, bad or indifferent, and we have had some breaks today.
"Kevin Foley was outstanding. It was a great performance by him. The newspapers will be giving him nine out of 10 at least and he's very consistent.
"He can't do any more than he does to try to get into the Republic of Ireland team. Unfortunately, when Mr Trappatoni came to watch him last Saturday at QPR, he had one of his worst games."

Wolves: could again be without 15-goal top scorer Chris Iwelumo as the striker struggles to shrug off a twisted ankle suffered in training on Monday.
Mick McCarthy may keep the same side, with keeper Matt Murray and defender George Elokobi (both knee) still out.

Rob Kozluk (thigh) and Martin Devaney (ankle) are still out, while Diego Leon and Darren Moore are both doubtful.

FA Youth Cup

An own goal from Leicester defender Cian Bolger secured Wolves' place in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.
Bolger inadvertently steered a Scott Malone cross past his own keeper to hand the visitors a 3-2 victory.
Wolves took the lead after 23 minutes when James Davis met a Malone corner, but by half time they trailed to goals from Nathan Hicks and Tom Parkes.
Sam Winnall restored parity with an angled shot, before the decisive own goal 15 minutes from time.
Wolves were also grateful for the efforts of goalkeeper Richard Woolley who made a string of fine saves in front of a crowd of almost 500 at the Walkers Stadium.

10th December 2008

Match Reaction

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy played down his side's response to Saturday's defeat at QPR.
The 1-0 loss at Loftus Road ended an eight-game unbeaten run, but McCarthy saw the visit of Derby as just another game.
"With us it always seems to be a response to something," he said. "To me there was no added significance.
"We went to QPR and didn't play particularly well for 50 minutes or so, but I don't think there was any drop in our confidence or belief in our ability to come bouncing back. We just played another game.
"If every time we win one or lose a match we go up or down, then it is a recipe for disaster. You have to keep an even keel."

Wolves made light of top scorer Chris Iwelumo's absence with a comprehensive performance.
Iwelumo was a late omission after suffering a slight ankle injury in training and was replaced by Andy Keogh.
But McCarthy revealed it was never in his plans to start with Iwelumo against the Rams.
"Andy Keogh was starting anyway," McCarthy added. "I was going to leave Chris on the bench.
"He has had three games in a week and Keogh has been brilliant in training and has been busting a gut.
"I thought his movement and pace would cause problems, and I don't think I was wrong."

Jody Craddock is still recovering from a broken toe and is not match fit.

7th December 2008

Match Reaction

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy admitted his Coca-Cola Championship leaders are there to be shot at after they crashed to a 1-0 defeat at QPR.
Martin Rowlands' super-strike sent Wolves spinning to a first defeat in nine games and cut their lead at the top to three points.
But McCarthy will not be pressing the panic button despite watching his side collect just one point from their last two outings.

"I don't go in for all that cliche stuff, a team draws a game and loses a game, it happens all the time," he said.
"This has been a tough place to play for as long as I can remember, and they are fired up by the fact that we are top and they have a new manager.
"We are the top team in this division - I'm not saying we're the best, but we are top - and that inspires other teams to play against you and we have got to live with that.
"We are still top. We didn't play well for 50 minutes today but we did play well for 35 minutes and we just could not get a goal back."

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has been named as the Coca Cola Championship manager of the month for November.
He led Wolves to five wins and a draw in their six matches last month, ending with a 1-1 draw with fellow high-flyers Birmingham.
McCarthy admitted 'it has been great' and used the draw with Birmingham to highlight the recent success of his league leaders.
McCarthy told Sky Sports News: "We've been behind in games this season and got something out of them.
"Birmingham were better for 55-60 minutes, but we had 30 minutes and were taking it to them and could have won."

Hungary For The Wolves
from: www.wolves.co.uk

Wolves are to welcome a delegation from Hungarian First Division club Újpest FC to discuss the possibility of a mutually beneficial 'alliance'.
Last month representatives from Wolves travelled to Hungary and the return visit by a party from the Budapest based club is a continuation of that process.

Újpest Chief Executive Joe Borocz, manager Lazar Szentes and Sports Director Sallói István will visit Molineux accompanied by four of the club's best young players who will experience a week's training with the Wolves Academy.

Jez Moxey said: "We have had some initial exploratory discussions in Budapest with the officials of Újpest FC and are looking forward to welcoming them to Wolverhampton.
"Our initial discussions touched on the issues of loaning players, football academies and the development of young talent, Champions League football, scouting and recruitment in Europe and the sharing of best practice both on and off the field. We think there may be potential for some kind of alliance between the two clubs.
"We know for example that Liverpool FC have established a link with MTK Hungaria's academy which has already seen them sign some good, young, Hungarian players who are now in the Liverpool first team squad and Sheffield United have a controlling interest in Hungarian side Ferencvaros.
"Also, Manchester United have a long standing association with Royal Antwerp where our own Sylvan Ebanks-Blake spent a year gaining valuable experience whilst playing with the Belgium club.
"We have no preconceived ideas about where these discussions might lead but we have entered into them with enthusiasm and an open mind."

During their visit, the Újpest party will have the opportunity to watch the games versus Derby County and Barnsley and observe the work of both Wolves' football and non-football staff, whilst the players will be integrated into the Academy's training programme.
Based in Budapest, Újpest FC are one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Hungary, having won 20 league titles and eight cup competitions in their 123-year history. They currently sit second in the Hungarian First Division, with aspirations to win the Hungarian domestic league and progress to the qualification stage of the Champions League.

Joe Borocz commented: "We are looking forward to travelling to Wolverhampton, we believe that Wolves and Ujpest have a lot in common.
"Both of our clubs have great traditions and history, and we are both equally committed to the future.
"In Hungary, all young players aspire to play in England one day. I firmly believe that it would be mutually beneficial to explore all angles as to how we may able to co-operate."

Friendly Postponed

Wolves have postponed their training ground friendly with Port Vale due to the weather.
Parts of the Compton training pitch remained frozen and even though the kick off time was put back with no improvement in conditions unfortunately the game was postponed.
Matt Jarvis, Jody Craddock and Lewis Gobern had all been scheduled to continue their comebacks while loan keeper Shane Higgs was set for his first appearance in goal.

Money For Mick In New Year

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey expects the club to financially back boss Mick McCarthy in the January transfer window.
McCarthy has led his team to the top spot in the Championship after an excellent start to the season, and now could look to bolster his ranks in the New Year and Moxey is sure owner Steve Morgan will provide him with funds to spend.

Moxey said in the Daily Mirror: "Under Steve Morgan the watchword has been prudence and we don't intend to be changing that approach.
"But we are in a strong position to gain Premier League status and if the manager comes to us before the transfer window and expresses an interest in players, we will listen.
"I am sure the chairman and board will do everything to back Mick without being stupid about it."
