The Australian hit his spot kick wide of Simon Tracey's right hand post in the 64th minute which lost his side a precious point.

20th February 2001

Sheff Utd 1-0 Wolves

Kick off was delayed until 8pm because of turnstile problems, and new signing Cedric Roussel didn't make his debut after injuring his back in training. A good start by Wolves after Sheff Utd kicked off, Branch was straight away causing problems for the Blades defence. Muscat was shown a yellow card in the 8th minute after a late challenge on Peschisolido and ex Wolves Keith Curle stopped some angry Sheff Utd players taking it any further, 2 minutes later Robinson was also shown a yellow card after a late challenge. The game then started to get heated with Devlin shown a yellow card. Wolves had the first chance of a goal, when Tracey saved Pollet's header from Sinton's corner. Then Sheff Utd took the lead after 21 minutes when D'Jaffo chipped the ball over Oakes. D'Jaffo recieved a yellow card for elbowing Pollet then 2 minutes later lashed out again at Pollet, but only got a warning from the ref for it. A disappointing finish to the first half after the bright start for Wolves as they went into the break a goal down.

Technical difficulties second half so I missed the commentary, if anyone could send me a report I'd be grateful! All I know is Kevin Muscat missed a penalty in the 64th minute.

International Potential

Dave Jones is recommending three of his youth team for under-21 international duty.
Jones is keen to see Adam Proudlock, Joleon Lescott and Keith Andrews represent the most senior of their countries' age-group teams.

New Mystery Backer

More money could be made available to Wolves boss Dave Jones, after reports that a mystery backer has now invested in the Molineux club.
It was thought that Dave Jones only had £1.5 million to spend, which was spent on the Roussel transfer but it has now emerged that this new mystery investor, has pumped even more funds into Wolves. Chief executive Jez Moxey claimed at the Cedric Roussel press conference that the Belgian's arrival may not be the last at Molineux this season.

Transfer Complete

Wolves have completed the signing of Coventry striker Cedric Roussel.
The former Belgian Under-21 international has joined for £1.53 million and has signed a four and a half year deal, the fee will rise to £2 million if Wolves get promotion while Roussel is at the club.
Roussel has taken a pay cut to move to Molineux but still becomes the highest paid player in the club's history.

Jones Still Watching Sami

Dave Jones has not given up hope of signing Saudi Arabian international striker Sami Al-Jaber.
Sami who spent a relatively quiet spell on loan to Wolves mainly in the reserves, scored a hat-trick for the Saudi’s as they crushed Vietnam 5-0 in Group 10 of the Asian World Cup qualifiers.
The Wolves boss is thought to be monitoring the situation closely and has not ruled out a possible permanent transfer.

Wolves boss Dave Jones is set to open talks with Hungarian defender Janos Hrutka on Wednesday after he has played for Wolves reserves against Bolton.
The Ferencvaros centre-half arrived in England on Monday and and Dave Jones could sign him by the end of the week.
The 26-year-old is keen to leave his homeland to play in England, and the Ferencvaros coach and general manager have also travelled to Molineux to sort out a deal.
Hrutka is a full Hungarian international and scored against England in 1999 when the two sides drew 1-1 in Budapest.

Fee Agreed for Roussel

Wolves have agreed a £1.53 million fee with Coventry City for the transfer of Cedric Roussel, subject to agreeing personal terms and passing a medical. This could rise to £2 million dependent on appearances, reaching the play-offs and winning promotion.

Pollet Confident

Ludovic Pollet is confident he will fit for Saturday's match with Wimbledon, after a hamstring strain forced him off at Half-Time during Saturday's win at Tranmere.
But if Wimbledon beat Middlesbrough in the FA Cup tonight, the game on Saturday will have to be postponed as Wimbledon will play Wycombe in the next round on Saturday.

Dave Jones is hoping to have the signing of Roussel completed within the next few days after they have tied up personal terms with the player.

10th February 2001

Tranmere 0-2 Wolves

Robinson had a free header just after 10 minutes but headed it into the side netting from a cross by Sinton, then straight down the other end Tranmere had a easy chance that they wasted. On 21 minutes the ball was squared across the Tranmere box by Branch and Flynn hammered it into his own net for a spectacular own goal. Just after the game restarted from the goal Paul Rideout had a nasty clash with Wolves keeper Oakes and had to be stretchered off. Tranmere had most of the possession at the end of the half but it came to nothing.

Two minutes after the restart Andrews won the ball in midfield passed to Branch, he crossed to Proudlock who blasted the ball in to make it 2-0, Wolves had a couple of chances to add to there lead but didn't take them. Micheal Branch was injured right at the end after a nasty challenge and replaced by Temuri Ketsbaia. Wolves recorded their first win under new manager Dave Jones.

Roussel Transfer Update

Dave Jones target striker Cedric Roussel was looking round Molineux on Friday, a day after John Hartson's transfer to Coventry finally went through, possibly leaving Roussel surplus to requirements at Highfield Rd.
Earlier in the week, when the Hartson deal didn't look as if it was going to materialise, City officials said they wanted to keep Roussel who added that he didn't want to leave Coventry or the Premiership.

Today on the Official Wolves website (www.wolves.co.uk):

Chief executive Jez Moxey has confirmed that Wolves have been in contact with Coventry City with regard to the purchase of striker Cedric Roussel.
He said: "Cedric came to Molineux yesterday (Friday) and we had a discussion with him and his representative.
"Nothing has yet been agreed with either the player or his club - we will continue the talks next week."
Manager Dave Jones has said this week that signing a striker is a priority for Wolves.

International Trialist

Wolves boss Dave Jones is hoping to take a look at Hungarian international Janos Hrutka in next Wednesday's reserve game at Bolton if he can get the necessary international clearance.
The 6'4" tall central defender is 26 years old, has won 22 caps playing for his country and has played in the Bundesliga in recent seasons, and currently plays for Ferencvaros.

Osborn Out for a Month

Simon Osborn could be out for the rest of the month, he has a foot injury that will keep him out of action for at least the next two games.
Osborn missed the draw with Gillingham on Saturday and with tests showing ligament damage. he will definitely be out of the trip to Tranmere and could even be out for longer.

Taylor Injury Update

Wolves striker Robert Taylor has had the final stitches out this morning after a successful operation on both of his legs, and he was able to start his rehabilitation programme.
The operations have left a couple of serious looking scars but Robert believes it will be a small price to pay for the pain relief it should ultimately bring.

Youth Team Cup Hope

Wolves youth team are playing Wimbledon tonight for a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup.
Having beaten Stoke City and York City to reach this stage of the competition, Wolves know that the winners of this evening's tie will travel to Anfield to face Liverpool.

5th February 2001

Reserves Game Off

Wolves reserves match was called today as torrential rain fell on an already wet Oakwell pitch after Sunday's snow had thawed, the Yorkshire club warned Wolves officials that the game was in doubt.
The team still had to travel up to Barnsley to ensure that they wouldn't be late if the game got the go-ahead, though Terry Connor was aware there were problems.
On returning Terry quickly arranged a short practise game at Compton before darkness fell.
No new date for the game has yet been arranged but the second team's away fixture at Burnley, scheduled for Wednesday, 14th March, has now been brought forward a week to the 7th March.

Roussel Staying

Wolves hopes of signing striker Cedric Roussel from Coventry City were shattered when the Belgian revealed that he wanted to stay at Coventry.
Wolves manager manager Dave Jones has so far refused to comment on any possible deal, although officials at Molineux admitted that there was an interest in Roussel.
But, Roussel is quoted as saying: "There's no argument between me and the club and they agree with my decision to stay.

Experience Needed

Dave Jones has said that he may have to bring in one or two more experienced players because the average age of his squad is too young.
He is looking to strengthen in all departments but knows that it will take time.
Jones said: "When I was at Southampton I had a team of old players and I was looking to sign younger men.
"Now I'm at Molineux I have a team of young players and I want to sign older, more experienced stars."
Wolves are looking at a couple of players and the club are hoping that they will soon make their second signing.

Asaba Link Denied

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has denied any inquiry from Wolves about striker Carl Asaba.
Hessenthaler said "Even though Carl's move to Palace collapsed, we are still resigned to losing him on a Bosman in summer but we've had no bid from Wolves".
Wolves manager Dave Jones has said that he would love to bring the striker to Molineux despite Andy Hessenthaler denying the rumour.
It remains to be seen if Dave Jones will make a move for the 28-year-old but he is a big admirer of the player.
He said: "It is no secret we need to strengthen if we are to become successful and Carl Asaba is one of the players I would consider buying if he was available."

4th February 2001

Roussel Transfer Update

Wolves move for Coventry striker Cedric Roussel appeared close to completion, but it has been hit by an indefinite hold-up with John Hartson's latest setback yesterday.
Coventry pulled out from the proposed £5m signing of Hartson from Wimbledon and are now reluctant to let Roussel leave, he was in Coventry's side yesterday.
If results improve and Roussel is seen to be playing a part at Highfield Rd, Wolves boss Dave Jones is destined for further disappointment in his chase.
The way could be clear for the transfer, though, if Coventry continue to struggle.

Football Aid

BRITAIN'S TOP CLUBS TEAM UP FOR "FOOTBALL AID"
UP TO 2000 FANS TO PLAY AT THEIR FAVOURITE STADIA
Strict Embargo - 1000hrs, Thursday January 25 2001

The football industry in Britain has come together in a unique venture - Football Aid - to raise millions of pounds for charity.

With official endorsement from the game's ruling bodies, almost 60 top British clubs such as Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, Sunderland, Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Hibs will give their supporters a unique opportunity to pull on the strips and play on their heroes' hallowed turf.

At the end of the season, virtually every club in the top two divisions in both England and Scotland will stage a fans' match to raise much-needed funds for diabetes research, as well as local club and football authority charities.

Internationally-respected manager Bobby Robson is patron of Football Aid and he expressed his delight at the prospect of up to 2000 fans living their dreams: "Every football fan dreams of running out of the tunnel onto their team's pitch and playing for the jersey, and through Football Aid that dream will become a reality for thousands.

"For the lucky participants, it'll be an unforgettable experience, and I'm sure football fans the length and breadth of the country will respond magnificently and support what is a really deserving cause."

The project is supported by the FA, the Premiership and the Nationwide League in England and the SFA, Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League in Scotland.

Football Aid spokesman Bill McFarlan said: "This is year one of the largest-ever football charity event and we anticipate a huge level of interest from fans, both in the UK and abroad.

"They'll be able to win places in scores of competitions run by recognised supporters' club associations, local and national media, or bid for them direct over the next seven weeks via an Internet auction at www.footballaid.com.

"Every fan dreams of playing for their favourite club in their own stadium and Football Aid's mission is to turn those dreams into reality.

"Those taking part will enjoy the full matchday experience, including pre-game stadium tour, final coaching and match tactics session before emerging from the tunnel to play a competitive game in their team colours on the pitch where their idols perform, followed, of course, by full post-match banter and celebrations. Every fan who takes part will have a day they'll treasure whilst providing vital funds to deserving causes."

Football Aid's founder is Scots father Craig Paterson, whose son Jonathan was diagnosed last year with insulin-dependent diabetes at the age of 12.

Over the past 12 months he and his team who have been responsible for the overall project have been working closely with the clubs and football authorities to bring the programme to fruition. He said: "Every single one of the clubs we've met already carries out a tremendous amount of charity work which largely goes unrecognised and we're absolutely delighted the whole footballing community has really got behind the project and embraced it wholeheartedly to raise even more funds for good causes.

"This is the most ambitious project of its type ever staged and we expect that up to 2000 lucky fans will play in the end-of-season-games."

Bill McFarlan added: "There will be 30 places available at each participating club, with up to 22 places for club auctions via the www.footballaid.com website - the rest will be won in a variety of competitions run in local and national media.

"This is the first time anything like this has been launched on such a scale and we hope it'll become an annual event, not only in the UK, but in other countries."

Green Transfer Request

Wolves defender Ryan Green formally requested a transfer from Wolves and has been made available for transfer by the club.
The 20 year old made his debut for Wolves in November 1998, but injury hampered his progress and last season and he made a similar transfer request which was later withdrawn.
This season Green has started seven times in the first team, and three times as a substitute, maybe the most memorable when he was sent off against local rivals West Brom.
Green says he is disappointed by his lack of first team opportunities and wants to leave Molineux.

Ndah Junior

George Ndah and his partner Emma are proud parents, Emma gave birth to the couple's first child on Tuesday evening, a girl who has been named Georgia.
Despite the new distraction, the Wolves striker is hoping he'll have a part to play when Wolves take on Gillingham at the weekend.

Jones Backing Butler

Wolves Boss Dave Jones is backing his first signing Paul Butler to help Wolves to the Premiership, he believes that the 28-year-old's experience of promotion from Division 1 with Sunderland can help the whole Wolves squad.
He said: "There is a big job for Paul to do at Molineux.
"I know how well he worked for Peter Reid when Sunderland won promotion but I want even more out of him. Paul knows what it takes to get out of this division and I need him to produce the goods on the pitch.
"He is also very good in helping the younger players to develop their skills.
"You bring in good players and the younger members of the squad can learn from them."
The Molineux boss also revealed he tried to sign Butler when he was in charge at Stockport.
Butler has now become the second most expensive defender in Wolves history, after his £1 million transfer.
