Captain Pollet

Dave Jones has announced that Ludo Pollet will captain Wolves whilst Kevin Muscat is suspended. The popular Frenchman has been handed the skipper's armband by manager Dave Jones.
The defender was very pleased with the offer and said "I won't feel any more pressure. I shall just do the same job."
Pollet has experience at being captain with his former team Le Havre where he was skipper for three years, this experience could have got him the job over other potential candidates.

Captain a Secret

Dave Jones won't be announcing whose to replace Kevin Muscat as Wolves captain until Sunday, likely candidates are Paul Butler who could return from injury for Sunday's crunch Midlands derby with Birmingham at St Andrews and Carl Robinson.

The Swedes are Coming

The Swedish supporters club are invading Molineux again and 7.pm on Friday 6th April @ BILSTON TOWN FC they are playing a football match against an All Stars Wolves team. Truls Mansson from www.trulswolves.com said we are no football players, we are beer drikers so we will probably loose 0-15!! You know the average Swedish Wolves supporter is not 20 years old, it's more likely he has been around since the 1970's and is 40! But there will be a bar after the game so....

Injuries Update

Wolves Defender Paul Butler is doubtful of returning to the Wolves line-up against Birmingham next Sunday, he is still trying to shake of the groin strain that kept him out of the Wolves match and has only been given a 50-50 chance being fit for Sunday.
Butler is Dave Jones first choice to take over the Wolves captain's armband whilst Kevin Muscat is missing for the next five games, but Jones has said he will wait until the results of a late fitness test on the 28-year-old before making any final decisions.

Midfielder Tony Dinning is still unlikely to play against Birmingham on Sunday, he has returned to light training and can return to first team action but is unlikely to be ready for Sunday.
Dave Jones will probably keep him on the sidelines for at least another week, he thinks Dinning need's rest for the problem to ease.

Robert Taylor is out of action again with an achilles strain the injury-plagued striker picked up the injury in Wolves reserves 5-1 home win over Stockport County on Monday and now looks certain to miss out on the chance of a seat on the bench at Birmingham on Sunday.
Utility man Neil Emblem also picked up a knee injury in the reserves, but he should be ok to join the squad at St Andrews.

Lee's New Job

Ex Wolves manager Colin Lee has been given the job as manager at Torquay Utd until the end of the season, it said on Torquay's Official website:
Colin Lee has reiterated that he does not want the permanent job but he has agreed to look after matters until after the Hull game. I am meeting with Colin tomorrow for discussions on the way forward. Visit there site here www.torquayunited.com

Also Dave Jones has said he won't be leaving Molineux to return to The Dell after Glen Hoddle has left Southampton to manage Spurs, Jones said on the official Wolves website (www.wolves.co.uk):

"I'm getting lots of calls about this and I'd just like to make is clear that going back to Southampton doesn't enter into the equation.
"I know lots of people thought that I should never have been asked to leave there in the first place, but that's all behind me now.
"That chapter of my life is finished and all I'm interested in is getting Wolves into the Premiership.
"I have a job to do at Molineux and I'm committed to doing it. I'm looking for a house in the area and I¹m making plans to move my family to Wolverhampton.
"I can understand people asking the question so I want to make the answer clear, and I'd like that to be the end of the matter."

Flo's Last Chance?

Haarvard Flo's contract is up in the summer, but the striker might get one last chance to prove what he is capable off in the Wolves first team and earn another contract from Dave Jones after scoring twice yesterday for Wolves reserves. Boss Jones said he would never close the first team door to any player at the club.
Other players with contracts ending in the summer are Scott Taylor, Andy Sinton and Mike Stowell.

Wolves have had there injury struck strike force boosted by the return to fitness of Cedric Roussel, Robert Taylor and Harvard Flo, all three strikers are bidding to get into Dave Jones plans for next weekend when they appear for Wolves reserves against Stockport at Molineux tonight.
Roussel has only been out short term with flu, while Taylor and Flo have been sidelined for a lot longer after both needing surgery.
The three strikers will be putting pressure on in form Adam Proudlock and George Ndah for places in the Wolves attack for next weekends match at St Andrews with Birmingham City.

Injuries Update

Tony Dinning has been told he has suffered no serious damage to his shoulder after a full examination, and he should be fit for Wolves next league against Birmingham next Sunday.
When Dinning fell awkwardly against Preston there were early fears that he had dislocated his shoulder but precautionary X-rays have given him the all clear and shown it was just bruising. The former Stockport midfielder damaged his shoulder
Defender Paul Butler is still receiving treatment after picking up a groin injury in training before the Black Country Derby, but he also should be in back in the Wolves side to face Birmingham.
Wolves have been assured by England that Lee Naylor isn't injured despite being left out from last night's England under-21 match with Finland.
England's coach Howard Wilkinson said "Lee wasn't left out because he was injured. He had a slight ankle problem earlier in the week but he is fit and will be part of the squad who travel to Albania."

Transfer Deadline News

In's: Wolves have signed Stockport full-back Sean Connelly on loan until the end of the season, boss Dave Jones said Connelly could earn himself a permanent deal with Wolves if he produces the goods on the field in Wolves run-in. The versatile full-back has signed for a nominal fee as his contract with the Hatters was due to expire in the summer.
Connelly, 29, has made over 350 appearances for Stockport and was a key man in their establishment as a First Division force. He signed from non-league Hallam in 1993 when Danny Bergara was in charge at Edgeley Park.
Dave Jones was the manager that took County to a league Cup semi-final in 1997, and Connelly was an integral member of that squad.
He will act as cover for Kevin Muscat, who has a two-game ban for reaching 10 cautions starting next Sunday, and Connelly looks set to go straight into the Wolves team.

Out's: Midfielder Simon Osborn has been given a free transfer by Wolves and joined Tranmere Rovers.
His contract at Molineux was finishing this summer and he would have become a free agent. He is on a short-term contract until the end of the season at Prenton Park.
He said: "I'd like to thank the fans who have supported me over the years and also the staff at the club - past and present - and that, of course, includes my team-mates."
Osborn joined Wolves from QPR in December 1995, for £900,000 he made over 180 League and Cup appearances for Wolves scoring 14 goals, and was made club captain at Molineux this season.
Osborn is likely to be put stright into the First Division relegation dogfight as Tranmere face Wolves' Black Country rivals West Brom on Sunday.

Also Steve Epesse-Titi left Molineux today for Exeter, he only joined Wolves at the start of this season, but didn't fit into Dave Jones rebuilding plans.

22nd March 2001

Roussel is Ready

Wolves £1.5 million striker Cedric Roussel is match fit and ready to start playing first team football at Molineux, that's if he can get in the team with George Ndah and Adam Proudlock playing very well, Roussel might have to wait on the bench to show what he is capable off.
Roussel completed another 90 minutes yesterday in a friendly 2-2 draw against Walsall at Molineux behind closed doors.
Also playing in the friendly were Haavard Flo who scored Wolves second goal, and Robert Taylor, playing behind the front two.

21st March 2001

Naylor Offer?

There have been reports that two Premiership clubs are making a bid to sign Wolves Lee Naylor, I have tried finding out more information on this but I can't confirm it anywhere. So for the moment let's hope it's just a rumour, and Dave Jones will hang onto our young stars that shone on Sunday.

Lee Wants Green

Wolves ex-manager Colin Lee is hoping to keep young Wolves defender Ryan Green at Torquay until the end of the season. Colin Lee is now Technical Director at Torquay and is currently in talks with Wolves about the player, who is on the transfer-list at Molineux after a transfer request because of the lack off first team chances, which at the moment with Kevin Muscat suspended for 2 games could have seen Green with a chance to impress new boss Dave Jones.

20th March 2001

Tickets Please

Wolves have announced some more ticket promotions for two matches in April, and hopefully after Sunday's performance Molineux will start filling up again.

When Wolves take on Huddersfield Town on Saturday 7th April at Molineux it has been named a 'Friends for a Fiver' game, so season ticket holders can purchase a ticket for a friend or relative for just £5.00 anywhere in the ground.
Season ticket holders must produce Home Match Voucher Number 4 - maximum three tickets per voucher.
Tickets have to be purchased in advance from the Ticket Office as they will not be available from the turnstiles. They are subject to conditions and availability.

Then the following fixture when Wolves play Crewe Alexandra at Molineux on Saturday 14th April, has been earmarked as a 'Kids for a Quid' fixture. Tickets will be on sale to any supporter aged 17 or under, for just £1.00.
Again they must be purchased in advance, you can not pay at the turnstiles, and again the offer is subject to conditions and availability.

19th March 2001

Delighted Jones

Wolves boss Dave Jones was delighted after his team's first victory over local rivals Albion in more than four years, but issued a warning that such a level of performance must be maintained at Molineux under his leadership.
"It is obvious Wolves have under-achieved and it's frustrating as a manager that we can't play like that more often," said the recently-appointed manager.
"There have not been enough performances like that this season, but at least we have given the fans something to build their hopes up on.
But West Brom's manager Gary Megson was furious and blasted his team after the derby defeat.
Megson said that all 14 players used must fear for their places after an abject performance which was 'embarrassing' for the Albion manager.

Keyhole for Dinning & Butler

Tony Dinning and Paul Butler are to have keyhole surgery on the injuries that kept them out of Wolves victory in the Black country derby, Dinning is having his shoulder operated on that he injured against Preston and Butler his groin he injured in trainging, the surgery could keep them out of action for two weeks.
Wolves boss Dave Jones is confident their injuries will not keep them out for long, with Butler hoped for a return against Birmingham on 1st April.

18th March 2001

Wolves 3-1 West Brom

Wolves were first to score in a heated start to the Black Country Derby, when Ndah got passed the keeper and put it in the net, after Proudlock had done well to break up West Brom posession. Wolves started to dominate and a  superb volley in the 33rd minute nearly saw Pollet on the score sheet, but the West Brom keeper pushed it onto the post. Just before half-time Ndah doubled Wolves lead with a header from Sinton's corner.

Wolves started the 2nd half as they had finished the first 45 mins and dominated, then another Sinton corner led to Wolves 3rd goal when Pollet headed home. Proudlock had a couple of chances during the last 20 minutes but didn't manage to get on the score sheet. Then in the 82nd minute Clement got a consulation goal for West Brom and Wolves recorded there 50th win against the Baggies.

Two of Wolves in form players Ludovic Pollet and Michael Branch are hoping to shake off knocks for Wednesday night's clash with Preston.
French defender Pollet took a knock in the face which has already sidelined him twice this season with a badley gashed eye and then suffered a broken nose.

Striker Branch tweaked his hamstring in the weekend victory at Grimsby and both players had to be substituted in the dying minutes at Blundell Park.
Wolves boss Dave Jones replaced the two players at Grimsby with Joleon Lescott and Keith Andrews and they will both be on stand-by for the trip to Preston.

Hereford Through

Steve Bull stayed on the bench and the Hereford Bull stayed in his field because of the foot and mouth disease, but Hereford Utd went through to the Semi-Final of the FA Umbro Trophy despite some strange decisions by the referee which saw a Hereford Utd player get sent off with a second yellow card for time wasting when it took him 9 seconds to take a through in! Also there were some dodgy decisions on penalties, 1 given which was saved and 2 not given.

Maybe 1 Bull on Sky

Hereford United's 6th round FA Cup Trophy match against Dr Marten's Premier League leaders Burton Albion is going to be screened live on Sky. This will be Hereford's biggest game of the season, and Wolves legend Steve Bull could make an appearance as a substitute, but the other famous Hereford Bull, which is usually paraded around the ground before kick-off won't be appearing due to the Foot and Mouth crisis. Instead players will sign and then kick leather footballs into the crowd, something they used to do in the 70's.
Steve Bull joined Hereford Utd as a coach, but when Hereford had a injury crisis he decided to put his boots back on and has been coming on as a substitute for 'The Bulls'.

Johnson Slams Muscat

Nottingham Forests Andy Johnson has slammed Wolves skipper Kevin Muscat as "horrible" after Johnson was sent off for punching Muscat during Wolves win last Saturday.
Johnson, whose punch will land him a three-match ban, apologised to Forest fans but could not resist an attack on the Wolves defender.
He told the Nottingham Evening Post, "Muscat is a horrible player - that's his game to go on to the pitch to spoil games.
"He kicked me off the ball three times and then we went for a challenge from a throw-in. He elbowed me in the head and stupidly I turned round, lost my rag and hit him. It was ridiculous on my part and was something I shouldn't have done."

6th March 2001

Ndah Suspended

Inform striker George Ndah picked up his fifth booking of the season at Sheffield United two weeks and now he faces the disappointment of missing Saturday's game at Grimsby. He has missed lot's of games through injuries since he moved to Molineux 18 months ago. But this news means that new signing Cedric Roussel could start on Saturday after sitting on the bench for Wolves win against Nottingham Forest last Saturday. The £1.5 million signing has yet to start a match since he moved to Molineux after injuring his back in trainging.

Fans Clash

Ten people were arrested during Saturday's match at Molinuex against Nottingham Forest, when rival fans came head-to-head in a series of clashes and pre-meditated attacks, bottles were thrown while tempers flared between opposing supporters after the game and some angry Wolves fans chanting "kill the police".
Police are investigating the clashes which they say were planned weeks ahead of the game and have condemned the small criminal element involved who engaged in violent behaviour, and officers will continue to study video footage from cameras all over the city centre and Molinuex to identify more hooligans and make further arrests.

3rd March 2001

Wolves 2-0 Nottingham Forest

There was a minutes silence at Molineux before the match for Stan Cullis, which both sets of fans observed and you could have heard a pin drop. Andy Johnson was sent off at the end of the first half for striking Kevin Muscat, after Wolves had dominated the first half with lots of chances to Forests one shot on target.

At the start of the second half Wolves took the lead after George Ndah won a corner, it was flicked on from Dinning and Proudlock finished from six yards, but the goal was judged as a own goal from Edds. Adam Proudlock definatly scored the second after Ndah squared it across the penalty area for him. Forest went down to 9 men when Harewood got sent off after getting his second yellow card, and Wolves recorded there first league win under Dave Jones at Molineux.
