"I've only been at Wolves two days but I really like the feel of the club.''

Stan Deal Collapsed

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has announced that Stan Collymore won't be joining Wolves even though personal terms had been agreed between Collymore and Wolves. Moxey said "Real Oviedo wanted a large fee for us to take Stan even on a loan basis, something which we were not prepared to do.
"They are sueing the player for breach of contract and they believe they have a strong case.
"The situation is nothing to do with Wolves and we don't want to get mixed up in the situation so our interest has to cease. The problems lie between Stan and Real Oviedo."

More Players Linked

Wolves are being linked with Hearts' Scottish international midfielder Colin Cameron.
Cameron has been linked with Bradford and Nottingham Forest in recent months but it now appears Dave Jones is lining up a bid in the region of £2million for the 28-year-old.
Wolves are also rumored to have agreed a fee for an unnamed striker and hope to tie up the deal over the weekend, with another player to sign soon after.
Chief executive Jez Moxey said: "I'm confident something will happen this week. We're near to agreement with both players.''

French Trialist

French striker David Suarez is on trial at Molineux, the 22-year-old striker has been on the books of Second Division Cannes for the last two seasons.
Last season he appeared in all but three of his club’s League and Cup games and scored 13 goals in what was a season of struggle for the French side.
Wolves manager Dave Jones said on the official Wolves website: "We will be taking a look at David over the next few days and we are hoping that he can play in our friendly at Shrewsbury on Saturday.
"David came to us on the high recommendation of his representative Michel Benguigui who I know well. He has looked good in training but until I can see him playing in a game it’s hard make a decision."

Fourth Bid Refused

Preston have rejected Wolves fourth bid for Striker Jon Macken, the £4 million bid would have broken the Molineux transfer fee paid for a player, currently standing at £3.5 million to Bristol City for Ade Akinbiyi in September 1999, which set a new record for the Nationwide Divisions.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said on the Wolves Official Website: "We remain interested in signing Jonathan Macken although Preston refuse to move their position. They want an enormous fee for him – one that is millions of pounds higher than our current offer. It is out of our reach and one which in reality I find quite ridiculous.
"It means that although we haven’t entirely given up hope of signing Jonathan, we’re turning our attention to other forwards and we have agreed a fee with another club for a striker. The issue that we are facing with this deal is that although the club has agreed to sell him, they do not want to let him go until they’ve found a replacement.
"Obviously there is only a certain amount of time available to us and we have one or two other options open, with regards to strikers, should the need arise. If we do have to sign someone else before the club has found a replacement, then that deal will fall through."

Fourth Macken Bid

Wolves are reported to have made a fourth bid for Preston's Jon Macken of over £4million and Preston could be lining up Wolves other target Shaun Goater as a possible replacement.
Preston sent a scout to Halifax on Saturday to check the form and fitness of Goater but Wolves may still try to sign Goater if their latest bid for Macken proves unsuccessful. Goater's future at Manchester City may depend on whether Paulo Wanchope remains at Maine Road.

Oviedo Won't Release Stan

Spanish club Real Oviedo have told Wolves that they will not be releasing Stan Collymore on-loan.

An Oviedo spokesman said, “Wolves are interested in the player, and Collymore has spoken to them. But we are still awaiting the response to our offer to sell we made last week.”

The first team's next match is on Saturday afternoon when they take on Shrewsbury at The Gay Meadow, kick off 3.00pm.
The following week they travel to Belgium where they will face Royal Antwerp before the only home friendly of the season on the 3rd August, against Liverpool.

Stan Agrees Terms

Stan Collymore is poised for a comeback from retirement less than four months after quitting the game, the only thing stopping his transfer to Molineux on a lucrative three-year contract is Oviedo's reluctance to release his registration. The Spanish club are reputedly looking for £350,000 to free him up even though he came to them on a free transfer.
Wolves are unlikely to acceed to their demands, and until a compromise can be reached, Stan's self-imposed exile will continue for a while longer.
Collymore still has a house in Cannock, less than 20 miles from Wolverhampton, and is very close to family and friends in the area.

Froggatt Retires

Former Wolves midfielder Steve Froggatt has been forced to retire from the game aged only 28 due to a serious ankle injury.
He signed for Wolves for £1million from Aston Villa and spent four years at Molineux then moved to Coventry. which has plagued him for nearly two years.
Froggatt picked up the injury while playing for Coventry against Sunderland 18 months ago and hasn't been able to recover from the problem, he has now realised he will never play football again.

Aerts had tested positive for cocaine in 1997, and Wolves insisted on the drugs test after learning this and when the player refused, the deal was cancelled.
His club Den Bosch are said to be furious with the 25-year-old, and have now asked for an arbitration court at the Dutch FA to immediately dissolve his contract with them, which is due to run until the summer of 2004.

Ndah's Tour Over

Wolves striker George Ndah has had to leave Wolves pre-season tour because of injury for the second  successive season.
Last summer on the Irish tour it was a niggling knee condition this time a persistent minor groin strain has prevented the striker from training since the squad arrived in Portugal on Friday.
As the disappointed Ndah prepared to return to Molineux, boss Dave Jones said: "George is stiff and sore. We were hoping that he’d shake it off but he’s still struggling.
"It’s pointless him staying out here when he can be treated back at Wolverhampton so he’s going back and we’re flying Colin Larkin out as a replacement."

17th July 2001

Another Macken Bid Rejected

Wolves have had their third bid believed to be of £4m for Preston striker Jon Macken turned down flat.
It is believed Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey made the offer of £3.5million up front and a further £500,000 based on appearances, but the offer was once again turned down flat with both chairman Bryan Gray and manager David Moyes insisting the highly-rated star was not for sale.

Stan Signing Hits Problems

Stan Collymore and Wolves were having constructive talks about him coming out of retirement and re-joining Wolves, but the move has hit problems with Spanish club Real Oviedo, threatening to sue the striker for breach of contract as his deal with the Spaniards is understood to have contained a buy-out clause for any club interested in taking the player on board.
The La Liga outfit still hold Collymore's registration and are suing him for up to £1m, based on their transfer valuation of the player and money they believe they have lost after he walked out on them last season without warning after playing just 88 minutes of football for them, and announcing his retirement from the game.
A spokesman for the Oviedo said, "The player left Oviedo without informing the club of his intentions.
"The club tried to get in touch with Stan Collymore but we were unsuccessful. The day after Ian Monk issued a statement that Stan Collymore was going to retire and that is how we found out.
"It was decided by the lawyers to sue Collymore for £7million for damages done to the club and for breaking his contract, even though he hadn't gone to another club."
The case is not expected to be heard in the Spanish judicial courts for at least another year.

New Captain

Dave Jones has stripped Kevin Muscat of the club captaincy with Paul Butler favorite to get the job of leading Wolves next season.
Muscat took over the captaincy last season when Keith Cutle left, but a series of poor displays have prompted Jones to make the change.
Butler will lead the Wolves team for their three-match tour of Portugal and if Jones likes what he sees, then the defender looks set to retain the captaincy next season, although Ludovic Pollet and Tony Dinning are also reported to be in the frame.

The keeper has also been added to the player profiles on the new official website, which boasts "All the news from Molineux - accurate and up-to-date - will appear here", but there is nothing about the transfer on there. Wolves are still working to see if anything can be sorted out with the transfer but have said it's unlikely.

Lee Applies to Magpies

Colin Lee is set to return to management following his departure from Wolves, and has applied for the vacant assistant manager's position at Newcastle United.
After he was dismissed by the board at Molineux, Lee joined Torquay at the end of last season, and subsequently helped the Gulls in their quest for third division survival.
However he recently turned down the opportunity to remain in charge at Plainmoor, and has now set his sights a little higher.
Aside from expressing his desire to take over at St James Park from Mick Wadsworth who joined Southampton last week, Lee has also been linked with the post of first-team coach at Aston Villa following Steve Harrison's move to Middlesbrough.

Premature Report

The report that Maikel Aerts had signed for Wolves seems to have been premature, Wolves haven't yet finalised the £700,000 deal for Dutch goalkeeper Maikel Aerts, but it's expected to be tied up in the next 48 hours. My apologies!

7th July 2001

Goalkeeper Signs

Wolves have signed goalkeeper Mikael Aerts for around £1,600,000 from FC Den Bosch on a four-year deal.
Aerts travelled with his manager John Linse to Molineux last Thursday for talks and was very impressed with Wolves. Emblen Deal Off

Neil Emblen's £500,000 transfer to Norwich has collapsed after he failed to agree personal terms with them.

Tour News

Wolves captain Kevin Muscat has pulled out of Wolves pre-season trip to Portugal because of a groin injury.
The Australian international picked up the injury before the start of pre-season training and could be sidelined for around three weeks which might see him out of the first game of the season. Sean Connelly will be the most likely to fill Muscat's place.

Ludovic Pollet will be joining Wolves tour to Portugal after recovering his lost passport.
Pollet reported the document and other valuable papers stolen when his wife's car was taken from outside their new home in a South Staffordshire village.
But the vehicle was spotted abandoned in Bilston and the player has now been reunited with his passport.

The silver Renault Clio Sport was taken from outside his south Staffordshire house at 6.30 yesterday evening.
The theft has an added complication as Ludo's passport was inside the vehicle. With the team due to fly off to Portugal a week tomorrow, the French defender may be forced to stay at home.
"I would be very grateful if anyone can help trace my car," says Ludo.
"I need to get my passport back so I can go one the tour of Portugal. I am trying to get a replacement but I might not be able to get one in time."
The registration of the car - a French model - is 544AAL83. If anyone has any information that could be of help to the police, please call them on 01902 894611

Goalkeeping Coach Joins

Goalkeeper Bobby Mimms has joined the Molineux backroom team as Wolves goalkeeping coach. The position was previously a part-time post held by Peter Bonetti, but will now be full-time. Wolves boss Dave Jones says it was important to elevate the role to a full-time position.
Bobby joins Wolves having been player/goalkeeping coach at Mansfield Town. The former Irish under 21 player has enjoyed a long and varied career, with Everton, Sunderland, Blackburn, Manchester City, Tottenham and Preston numbering amongst the clubs he has served.

Transfers Update

Wolves are thought to be targeting Man City's Shaun Goater after twice being unsuccessful in trying to sign Preston's  Jon Macken, with Blackburn's Nathan Blake also emerging as a target.
Manchester City have confirmed they have received no official approach as yet.
Blake is available for around £1.5million after falling out of favour at Ewood Park, with Derby and Crystal Palace already confirming their interest in the Welsh international.

Defender Sean Connelly has signed a two-year contract at Wolves after being assured by Dave Jones that he has a part to play in his future plans.

*Update*
Shaun Goater has said he intends to see out the remaining three years of his contract at Maine Road. In response to a reported £3million bid from Wolves.

"I'm really glad to be signing for Wolves. When I met the manager he said how much he wanted me to come here. I'm looking forward to getting started.
"I've played at Molineux before with City and Millwall, and I've always been impressed by the place.
"I just hope we can get a good start, show the fans what we can do and get everybody behind us."

Kennedy Passes Medical

Mark Kennedy has passed his medical and will complete a £2million move to Molineux on Wednesday afternoon.
Wolves are set to unveil the 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international as their first signing of the summer at a news conference at 12.45pm.
Kennedy has signed a five-year contract after finding himself surplus to requirements at Maine Road following the appointment of new manager Kevin Keegan. He played 77 times for City scoring 11 goals.
The deal was set up last month, but Wolves had to wait for Kennedy to return from his summer holiday last weekend for him to have a medical and then complete the move.

Tayloy has another Op

Wolves injury struck striker Bob Taylor has undergone another operation this time to remove gall-stones.
He went into Wolverhampton's Nuffield Hospital yesterday for surgery after suffering stomach pains on and off towards the end of last season.. He will remain there for a couple of days before being sent home to rest.
Staff are now waiting to get a formal report on the procedure from Bob's surgeon, but the operation is believed to have been straight forward.

Squad Back

The squad reported back after their summer break for training yesterday at a new venue, RAF Cosford. Boss Dave Jones was keen to use the facilities at Cosford, whilst the pitches at Compton are undergoing their final pre-season preparations.
The players were put through their paces at the military base, where they will train until they leave for the Portugal tour. Some where given extra time off, players that have had a busy summer of international matches and new signing Mark Kennedy who had part of his medical yesterday and will undergo further tests today.
Jones said: "The facilities here - the surfaces and the gym - are first class and the RAF have really made us welcome. We plan to thank them for their help by playing them in a charity match at some stage.
"We spent the morning welcoming the lads back and explaining the pre-season programme to them. After lunch they were given upper body programmes to work on. The real work will start tomorrow.
"Carl Robinson, Lee Naylor, Termuri Ketsbaia, Kevin Muscat and Ryan Green have all been given an extra week off because of their international matches during the summer, so it wasn't quite a full complement."

Ketsbaia Deal Finalised

Troubled Wolves star Temuri Ketsbaia has finalised his £400,000 move to Dundee. Ketsbaia joined Wolves at the start of last season for £900,000 but failed to hold down a first team place.
The Georgian international says the main reason for his decision to play for the Tayside outfit was the presence in the team of Georgian national skipper Georgi Nemsadze.

Emblen move to Canaries

Wolves have agreed a fee for Neil Emblen with Norwich, the versatile utility man travelled to Carrow Road to discuss personal terms last week, the fee could total £580,000 with appearance related add-ons.

Wolves' chief executive Jez Moxey says: "We have agreed a fee and now it's a case of waiting to hear the outcome of the talks between Neil and Norwich."

Naylor Interest

Wolves England Under-21 defender Lee Naylor is attracting the interest of top French club Caen, who have admitted watching the player, also a admirer of Naylor is Aston Villa boss John Gregory.
Dave Jones wants to build a promotion-winning side around his younger players and he will not want to part with a player he feels has a big part to play in his future plans for the club.
But to boost Jones spending power in the transfer market a sizeable cheque could be too difficult to resist.
