Injuries Update

Mark Kennedy has resumed some light training as he tries to shake off the groin strain that kept him out of Wolves match against Sheff Utd and ruled him out of the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifier at the weekend. He is aiming to be fit for Wolves match at Preston on the 8th September.
Michael Branch is out of hospital and recovering from a hernia operation he had on Tuesday, he's not expected to be fit for four to six weeks.
Darren Bazeley had an assessment on his right knee on Thursday following the recent ‘cleaning out’ surgery that was undertaken on the joint. Until the specialist’s report is received it's not known when he will return to action.

Wolves reserves slipped to a narrow defeat at Turf Moor, Burnley scored first midway through the second half in a game Wolves could easily have won. The good news was that George Ndah and Keith Andrews both got their first 90 minutes of the season under their belts in the match.

Transfers Update

Paul Ince has dismissed rumours that he will be leaving Middlesbrough and thinks he can play another two years at top the level.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey is confident he can tie up the loan deal to bring Rangers youngster Kenny Miller to Molineux over the weekend.

Ketsbaia and Kennedy Return

Temuri Ketsbaia and Mark Kennedy have returned from international duty to Molineux for treatment on their injuries. Dave Jones will monitor their progress over the next few days to see if they can recover in time to face Preston a week on Saturday.

Taylor Out on Loan

Wolves striker Robert Taylor is joining Division Two side QPR for one month’s loan.
Taylor signed for Wolves at the start of last season for £1.6m from Man City, but has struggled with injuries and has not featured at all this season having undergone an operation for gallstones during the summer, but he is now fully recovered and keen to get some first team match practice.
Wolves boss Dave Jones said: “I am pleased that QPR have taken Robert because it will benefit both the player and Wolves. Robert will be getting first team football rather than playing here for the reserves. This will help his match fitness -mentally and physically.”

Injured Duo on International Duty

*Update*
Mark Kennedy has been ruled out of Ireland's squad for the World Cup qualifier agaisnt Holland on Saturday.

Mark Kennedy and Temuri Ketsbaia have left for World Cup International duty even though they probably won't play because they are injured.
Kennedy has joined the Republic of Ireland squad who play Holland in Dublin on Saturday, even though a groin injury meant he missed Wolves match against Sheff Utd on Monday.
Ketsbaia has joined the Georgian squad who play Hungary, but a puffed-up knee meant he lost his place on the subs bench on Monday and Wolves had to send for George Ndah.
Wolves boss Dave Jones said: "There's nothing we can do about it, they have to go".
"They have to be examined by their countries' medical people, but I'm sure when that happens, they will realise they can't play in these games."

Sheff Utd 2-2 Wolves

Roussel put Wolves in the lead on 29 minutes after good work from Newton in midfield then a cross from Proudlock.
Half-Time: Sheff Utd 0-1 Wolves.
Sheff Utd got a penalty four minutes after the restart and D'Jaffo sent Oakes the wrong to level the scores.
Asaba put Sheff Utd in the lead on 83 minutes.
Then Lescott leveled the scores 2 minutes later with a header from Butlers cross.

Wolves in Talks over Miller

Wolves chief Executive Jez Mozey has announced Wolves have been in talks with Rangers over striker Kenny Miller who was also linked with a move to Manchester City. He is expected to join Wolves on a three month loan to gain some first team experience.

Wolves under 12s team has won the prestigious youth football tournament for 12-year-olds hosted by the organisers of the 2002 World Cup, in the Shizuoka area of Japan.

The 16 strong party, all members of the club’s Academy, won the tournament on Sunday after defeating China in a penalty shoot out following a one all draw.

The 2nd Shizuoka World Junior Football Tournament for under 12s saw 12 teams split into two groups of six.

Wolves were in a group that included Australia (Hobart, Tasmania), USA (Omaha) and 3 Japanese area teams. The other group included Brazil, China, Thailand and 3 Japanese select teams.

Accompanying the squad were Academy Director Chris Evans, Academy staff members Glyn Harding and Carlo Federico, and club secretary Richard Skirrow.

Transfers Update

Wolves have ended their interest in Derby midfielder Darryl Powell after signing Colin Cameron, Powell had been stalling on a move to Molineux. Another midfielder Paul Ince has been again linked with a move to Molineux.

Wolves took the lead with an own goal after 9 minutes with there first attack into the Watford penalty area, Roussel crossed and Vega turned it into his own net.

New signing Colin Cameron made his first appearance for the last 10 minutes replacing Carl Robinson in midfield. Watford were down to 10 men when the ref showed Vernazza a red card with 2 minutes to go after a late tackle on Proudlock.

Team News

Michael Branch is to have an operation on Tuesday to repair a hernia and will be out of action for between four to six weeks. Kevin Muscat and Lee Naylor are both back in training and could return to first-team action against Watford tomorrow.

Watford have defender Paul Robinson suspended for the Midlands trip. Robinson was sent off against Manchester City and could be joined in the stands by Stephen Glass, who has a calf injury. Dutchman Nordin Wooter could start in attack after featuring in the Worthington Cup win over Plymouth in midweek.

Cameron Signs

Wolves have signed Hearts midfielder Colin Cameron on a four year deal for £1.75 million, subject to him agreeing personal terms. The 28-year-old could make his Molineux debut against Watford at Molineux on Saturday.
The Scottish Premier club did want £3-4m for Cameron, but accepted Wolves offer because of their perilous financial predicament. There are no add-ons related to appearances or promotion, but Hearts will receive 15% of any future profit that may be made on him.
The Kirkcaldy-born ace has been at Tynecastle for five years, having signed from Raith Rovers for £400,000. He has scored 61 goals in 190 appearances for the Jambos.
Wolves boss Dave Jones said"Cameron is a player we have been watching for some time."

Akinbiyi Bid Denied

Chief executive Jez Moxey has denied reports that ex-Wolves striker Ade Akinbiyi is a Molineux transfer target. Reports emerged that the striker was set to return to Molineux from Leicester in a deal worth £3million.
Moxey said, "It's complete rubbish - I've no idea where that's come from. Wolverhampton Wanderers have no interest whatsoever in Ade Akinbiyi."

Wolves 1-2 Swindon

Swindon took the lead just after half-time but virtually straight away Tony Dinning leveled the scores with a shot from 20 yards. Straight after that Swindon won a penalty and took the lead again.
Wolves didn't manage to break down the Swindon defence and so exited the Cup early again.

Fixtures Update

Wolves League game with Crewe Alexandra, scheduled for the 1st September at Molineux, has been postponed because of international call-ups.
This morning Wolves received confirmation that Mark Kennedy had been named in the Republic of Ireland's squad for an international with Holland on the same day.
Temuri Ketsbaia will be in Georgia's squad for their game with Hungary, and Carl Robinson listed in the Welsh squad for a home fixture with Armenia, Molineux officials applied to the Football League for a postponement which was granted almost immediately.
No new dates have yet been proposed for the rescheduling of the game.

Team News

Middlesbrough have refused permission to allow loan keeper Marlon Beresford to play in the Worthington Cup so seventeen-year-old Lewis Solly is set for the bench.
Sean Connelly is set to replace Kevin Muscat after he suffered a bruised heel in Sunday’s win at Highfield Road.

Transfer News

Wolves are being linked with Rangers and Scotland striker Kenny Miller also trying to sign him on loan are Manchester City. Wolves are keen to lure the 22-year-old striker south on a short-term loan deal.

Also being linked with Wolves is Hearts midfielder Colin Cameron, but the Edinburgh club have yet to receive an official approach. Jones watched the £1.5million-rated star turn in an impressive display against Dundee. The Scotland international has also been linked with a move to Everton, but Hearts insisted today that no club has tabled a bid.

Dave Jones has said about the Darryl Powell transfer "it’s very difficult to persuade a player to leave the Premiership when he’s playing. But it’s not just Darryl we have in mind. We have others."

Keeper Signs for Month Loan

Wolves have signed Middlesbrough goalkeeper Marlon Beresford on a month’s loan which could be extended to three months.
The 32-year-old former Burnley keeper was training with the Wolves squad today and goes straight on to the bench for tomorrow's televised game at Coventry.
Thirty-two year old Beresford has had loan spells with Bury, Ipswich Town, Northampton, Crewe and Northampton again before he signed for Burnley. He made over 250 appearances for the Turf Moor club before joining Middlesbrough.

Coventry Turn Down Loan Bid

Coventry have turned down a bid from Wolves to sign Carlton Palmer on a three-month loan.
They have allowed Palmer to train with Wolves this week, but they want to off-load Palmer permanently on a free transfer.
Jones is bidding to sign 35-year-old Palmer for a second time having signed him from Leeds when he was in charge at Southampton.

Wolves: Only George Ndah and Robert Taylor are out with injuries, Ndah has had an injection in his groin and should return to training on Monday and Taylor is suffering from a virus.
Naylor is fit again aftering suffering a dead leg in last Saturday’s match with Portsmouth, while Temuri Ketsbaia returns to training with the first tem today after having a calf strain.

Bywater Recalled

On loan goalkeeper Stephen Bywater has been recalled to West Ham after David James was injured in last nights England international.
Glenn Roeder telephoned Dave Jones this morning to ask that Bywater return to his club and prepare for the Londoner’s trip to Anfield this Saturday. Written confirmation is expected later today.
Bywater has been on a three-month loan at Molineux, but under the terms of the agreement could be recalled at 24 hours notice after the 12th August.
The development leaves just Michael Oakes as the only senior keeper at Molineux as Wolves gear up for Sunday's game at Coventry.

International Call-Up

Carl Robinson has been called-up into the Wales squad for the World Cup qualifier against Armenia on 1st September. Should Wales lose, it would end any hope that Robinson had of playing in the finals in Japan and Korea next summer.

Injuries Update

Wolves boss Dave Jones is confident Lee Naylor will be recovered from an ankle injury for Wolves match against Coventry at Highfield Road on Sunday.
Naylor was substituted five minutes before the end of last weekend's 2-2 draw against Portsmouth after getting a knock on the ankle in training.
Temuri Ketsbaia could return to action this weekend after a calf injury ruled him out on Saturday against Portsmouth.
Robert Taylor's comeback from injury has been delayed after he picked up a virus. He intended to return to training, but that has been put on hold due to the illness.

Wolves boss Dave Jones is considering arranging a friendly for the reserves so he can watch Nicky Summerbee in action again after being impressed by his performance against Birmingham's reserves on Monday night. Summerbee will carry on trainging will Wolves.

Reserves Win

Wolves reserves have won their opening game of the season against Birmingham at Molineux. It took Wolves until the second half to open the scoring, Branch shot on the turn from the 18-yard-line and it went in-between Poole and the near post. Just three minutes later, on the hour, Larkin made it two when he rose to head in a deflected cross from Camara.

Transfers Update

Reports in this morning’s national newspapers saying that Wolves have upped their offer for Preston NE striker Jonathan Macken have been denied by Wolves.
Chief executive Jez Moxey said: "We have had no contact with Preston since they rejected our last offer which was made two or three weeks ago and we certainly haven’t increased the bid."

Third Division Torquay have agreed a deal with Wolves to sign winger Shane Tudor on a free transfer within the next 48 hours. Wolves will receive a healthy sell-on clause for any future profit on the player.

Wolves Win Appeal

For the second time Premiership side Manchester United might have to pay Wolves over £1m in compensation for signing one of the Molineux's young stars, Kris Taylor in January this year.
This will be the second time Utd have had to pay Wolves compensation after the Daniel Nardiello case when they were ordered to pay Wolves a equivalent amount – the Football League Appeals Committee this afternoon ordered that Utd pay: £200,000 immediately, make a further four payments of £175,000 if Taylor goes on to play in five, 15, 25 and 40 first team matches, and an extra £250,000 should he win a full international cap.
If United sell the Cannock-born youngster, Wolves will be entitled to 20 percent of the fee.

Summerbee on Trial

Wolves are giving a trial to midfielder Nicky Summerbee, The 29 year old, who has played for Bolton Manchester City, Swindon and Sunderland, approached Wolves boss Dave Jones for a trial and he was happy to oblige. Summerbee will be in the Wolves reserve team tonight that face Birmingham City at Molineux in the first game of the Avon Insurance League season.

Powell Stalling on Transfer

Dave Jones is still waiting for Derby midfielder Darryl Powell to make up his mind over a move to Molineux despite Wolves agreeing a fee with Derby. 
The 29-year-old was first contacted by Wolves over two weeks but then Jim Smith was not keen to sell his skipper, until Derby re-signed Italian midfielder Stefano Eranio now they are willing to sell Powell.
But it's now the player himself who is stalling over the transfer, which could see the Wolves boss look elsewhere if Powell doesn't make up his mind soon.
Jones said: "We have agreed terms with the player and everything has been sorted out with Derby.
"Now we are just waiting for a decision from Darryl."

Carlton to Sign

Wolves manager Dave Jones has revealed that he is close to signing former England utility man Carlton Palmer from Coventry on a three-month loan.
Carlton was at Molineux in a spectator capacity for Wolves opening game against Portsmouth and will probably sign next week, ironically before the televised Sunday visit to face the Sky Blues.
Wolves boss Dave Jones said "I have known Carlton a long time and we are trying to do something,"
"I need to bolster my midfield and I know what he can do. He did a fantastic job for me at Southampton with his energy and drive.
"I want to bring him in on loan first, so I don't know whether Gordon Strachan would allow him to play at Coventry next season."

Wolves Raring To Go

Wolves boss Dave Jones is looking forward to the start of his first full season at Molineux, the club's campaign kicks off tomorrow with the visit of Portsmouth. But has warned Wolves fans that it isn't going be all plain sailing with up's and downs.
He said: "We're fit and raring to go."
"The players are raring to go. Whatever happens, we won't win or lose the League on what happens tomorrow. But it's important we get off to a good start.
"We feel good and we feel sharp and we don't want to be playing catch-up again."
Portsmouth were Wolves opponents seven months ago for Jones's first home match in charge.

Muscat Fighting to be Fit

Kevin Muscat is confident of being fit for Saturday's opening game of the season against Portsmouth. Wolves boss Dave Jones gave him a 45-minute run-out against Liverpool last week and he also played in Monday's friendly against Worcester City. The Australian international has been suffering with a groin problem since returning from the Confederations Cup with the Socceroos and has been training all week in a bid to pronounce himself 100 per cent fit to face Portsmouth.
Muscat said, "I have been working hard in training all week and I am determined to be in the bag when the boss picks his team to take on Pompey.
"This is going to be a big season for us and I am determined to do all I can to help fulfil the club's dreams of winning promotion."

Darren Bazeley is out of Wolves opening game of the season against Portsmouth after suffering a swelling to his knee, Keith Andrews is out of the first three matches after receiving a red card at the end of last season and Tony Dinning could receive a suspension after getting a red card against Royal Antwerp, but Wolves have received no notification from the FA that the officials in charge of the match officially reported the matter.

Sir Jack Optimistic

Sir Jack Hayward is more optimistic than ever that this season will end in triumph, but he has described this summers £10 million transfer kitty as his last throw of the dice. It was part-financed by increased commercial revenue but the 78-year-old owner-chairman is set to take his outlay on Wolves past the £50m mark. He hinted that if Wolves suffer a 13th successive season without winning promotion he will be stepping aside.

Wolves pre-season friendlies ended in a goalless draw at Worcester on Monday night, the Wolves team was mainly made up of trialists and reserves with Kevin Muscat and Keith Andrews the only first team regulars there.

Newton Signs

Wolves completed the signing of midfielder Shaun Newton from Charlton in a deal that could be worth over a £1 million on Monday evening.
Wolves will pay The Addicks an initial fee of £850,000 but that will rise to £1million if Jones's men achieve promotion to the Premiership, with further instalments of £50,000 once he has played 20, 40 and 60 games.

Fitness Boost

Wolves defence has received a boost as Kevin Muscat (groin injury) and Lee Naylor (knee) both should be fit for the opening game of the season. Both players were training with the Wolves squad today.

Newton Set to Sign

Wolves were this afternoon set to complete the signing of Shaun Newton as the Charlton right winger was at Molineux for a medical. Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey is believed to have persuaded Charlton's boss Alan Curbishley to strike the deal despite weekend reports suggesting he would not let the player leave at least for the opening weeks of the season after John Robinson underwent a cartilage operation at the weekend.
The clubs have agreed an initial fee of £850,000, rising to a maximum of £1 million on appearances plus a further £150,000 dependent on Wolves gaining promotion.

Pompey's Keeper Killed in Crash

Portsmouth's 25-year-old keeper Aaron Flahavan has died in a car accident. Flahavan had come through there youth development programme and was looking forward to starting the season as the club's first-choice keeper.
A statement on the club's website said: "Everybody at the club is shocked and devastated by the news and our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and partner at this time. Our prayers and thoughts are with them in their grief.
"Many people at the club have watched Aaron grow up and mature into a fine young man and goalkeeper."
Manager Graham Rix said: "It's really sad. I feel for his family, he was a really smashing young lad."

Newton Wanted at Valley

Wolves target Shaun Newton could snub a £1 million move to Molineux after Charlton boss Alan Curbishley confirmed the 25 year old midfielder still has a future at The Valley after he was impressed with Newton during the pre-season. Curbishley said: "He has come back looking very strong so we will wait and see"

Treble winners Liverpool proved to strong for Wolves at a packed Molineux. Liverpool took the lead in the 27th minute with a header from Sami Hyypia, Dietmar Hamann got there second and Robbie Fowler their third in the second half. Full Match report by Tom Sperrink

Season Ticket Sales Update

Season ticket sales have exceeded last season’s first day total, on the opening day of the season last year August 13th the number of season tickets sold was 12,576. At 5pm yesterday the figure was 12,579.
The news has delighted chief executive Jez Moxey, who said on the official site www.wolves.co.uk: “We are really pleased with the figures.
There are still nine days to go before the Portsmouth match and we hope to build on this total and see it further boosted by new signings.
We would like to thank everyone who has bought a season ticket for their support. We hope to give them a season to be proud of.”

Naylor Resumes Training

Lee Naylor could be back in action against Liverpool on Friday after being cleared by a specialist to resume training, he picked up a knee injury in the friendly against Bilston on Monday and just needed a cortisone injection.
Boss Dave Jones will assess the player's fitness before naming his side to face Liverpool at Molineux.

Birmingham Bid for Muscat

Reports from St Andrews say Birmingham have made a £750,000 bid for Australian international defender Kevin Muscat. But Wolves put a £1m price tag on Muscat and rejected the bid they are now waiting for a second bid from Blues boss Trevor Francis, but the news that Muscat is available for the right fee could lead to interest from a string of other clubs.

Powell Talks Confirmed

Darryl Powell's agent Phillip Graham has confirmed that the Derby player is thinking about a move to Wolves after talks with the club. Powell may be off-loaded by the Rams following the signing of Italian Fabrizio Ravanelli and Wolves have already had a £1million bid for The Rams captain rejected.
Powell's agent has now stated Wolves have come back in for the 29-year-old and talks have been held between the two parties over a deal worth in the region of £1.5million.

New Squad Numbers

Wolves have released the squad numbers for next season, Adam Proudlock has got the famous number 9 shirt and Ludovic Pollet has asked for number 23 hoping for better luck after all the injuries he got last season wearing the number 5 shirt.
