Team News

Nottingham Forest: Robbie Blake, who missed the trip to Grimsby last weekend with an ankle injury, could be sidelined again as he is suffering from a stomach upset.
Former Wolves striker Dougie Freedman could be forced to miss out against his former club after picking up a knock in the win at Blundell Park.

Wolves: Robert Taylor, who scored a fine solo goal at the City Ground for Manchester City last season, could keep his place in the Wolves side after scoring twice in the Worthington Cup at Grimsby in midweek.
Tony Dinning, who marked his debut against Norwich with a goal last Sunday, will return to the midfield after being cup-tied in midweek.

Injury Update

Wolves Striker George Ndah is hoping to be back in first team action next month as he recovers from a groin strain and Ludovic Pollet is on the brink of a return to full training and he could be back in the first team in two weeks.

Fulham in the Cup

Wolves have drawn Fulham in the 3rd Round of the Worthington Cup, if they manage to beat Grimsby in the 2nd Leg at Molineux. Fulham are the in-form team of Division 1 remaining unbeaten so far.

Sami's Off

Wolves are to lose the services of there new signing Sami Al-Jaber for a month due to international commitments.
The striker has been called up by Saudi Arabia to join their squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup in Lebanon.
He will be available for selection for the return leg next Monday but will be flying out 24 hours later to link up with his Middle East team-mates.
If the Arabs reach the final of the competition he will be away from Molineux until the end of October.

Another Fixture Change

There has been another change in the fixture calendar, but this time it's the reserves, there match against Notts County is being played on Tuesday and not the Wednesday night.
The kick off at Edgeley Park is at 7pm

27th September 2000

Oakes Wasn't Dropped

Micheal Oakes missed his first game of the season last night as Wolves lost 3-2 at Grimsby, but Colin Lee has said that he only rested Oakes last night, and did not drop him as some reports suggested.
His absence between the posts fueled speculation that the former Villa man had been dropped, having been criticised by Colin Lee in recent weeks when he said that Oakes was not commanding enough in his area and does not communicate with his defenders.

High Wage Demands

Wolves boss Colin Lee is stepping up his efforts to sign Andrejs Rubins in a bid to strengthen his squad.
The Latvian Under-21 international midfielder has been on trial at Molineux and has impressed Lee during his time with the club.
But, the main stumbling block at this stage are the player's wages, with his agent asking for more money than Wolves are prepared to pay.
Colin Lee has said his wage demands are "ridiculous."
The Wolves boss said: "During his spell here he has got on well with the other players and seems to like it here.
"His agent is turning the transfer into a nightmare and I'm not prepared to spend that amount of money on one player."
Rubins will stay at Molineux for the time being with more talks expected over the proposed move.

It was confirmed today that the League meeting between Wolves and Grimsby scheduled for Friday 6th October, is off.
International call-ups mean that Wolves would be without Kevin Muscat, Temuri Ketsbaia, Ryan Green and Sami Al Jaber for what would have been the third meeting with The Mariners in 11 days.
No new date has been announced for the restaging of the game but it isn't expected to take place before the beginning of November

Grimsby Town: The Mariners look almost certain to be without defender Paul Raven for this second round, first leg clash. Raven suffered a muscle strain against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Mariners boss Lennie Lawrence could also make changes up front after his strikers again drew a blank in the 2-0 home defeat by Forest.

Wolves: New star signing Tony Dinning is cup-tied for this game

Wolves Chase Defender

Wolves are reported to be trying to sign Manchester City's veteran defender, Richard Jobson.
Reports today suggest that Wolves have already contacted the Premiership outfit with a view to taking the 37-year-old to Molineux in a loan deal. Man City are understood to be willing to leave it up to Jobson to decide whether he wants to go or not.
Wolves face competition from Stockport County who are prepared to offer Jobson a permanent contract if he joins them.
The former Leeds man has already rejected loan moves to Oldham, Stockport and Nottingham Forest in the past fortnight.

The defence is looking bleak, with Joleon Lescott and Kevin Muscat missing and Ludovic Pollett still injured.

Dinning Signing

Wolves today completed the signing of Stockport midfielder Tony Dinning for £600,000 plus another £50,000 if he makes 50 or more appearances and a further £50,000 if Wolves win promotion to the Premier League.
The 25-year-old signed a contract at Molineux until summer 2004 and he was due to have a medical this afternoon to be available to make his debut against Norwich on Sunday.
"The fee and terms have been agreed and it will hopefully go through today, subject to a medical," said chief executive Jez Moxey.
The signing of Dinning ends a search which began a month and three days ago after manager Colin Lee had a £600,000 bid rejected on the eve of the 1-1 draw between the sides.
With news that Portsmouth and Blackburn were apparently waiting in the wings to open talks, Wolves wanted to rubberstamp the deal quickly and his capture brings relief at a time when midfielders Simon Osborn, Scott Taylor and Steve Sedgley have been struck down with injury.

Fixture Update

Colin Lee had been hoping that Wolves Worthington Cup fixture at Grimsby would be re-arranged for Wednesday evening but Town insisted on Tuesday, 26th September, as the new date.
And it seems likely that the second leg at Molineux will also result in a short turn around between games.
It's now almost certain that Wolves will play host to The Mariners on the evening of Monday, 2nd October.

Winning Reserves

Wolves reserves gained 3 points thanks to Sami Al Jaber's two first half goals on a soaked pitch against Rotherham. Trialist Andrejs Rubins made his debut on the left wing, but the other trialist, Karsten Baumann was not in the side because of international clearance complications.

Fixture Update

After being postponed last night Wolves are pressing Grimsby Town to move their rescheduled Worthington Cup tie to Wednesday September 27th.
But the Mariners would prefer playing the game 24 hours earlier, which does not really fit into Colin Lee's plans.
The Wolves manager says his injury hit squad will be in action against Norwich City at Molineux on Sunday, and therefore require an extra day between the games to enable his squad to get over any injury worries that may arise from the Norwich game.
Meanwhile the second leg has been pencilled in at Molineux on the evening of Tuesday October 3rd. However that fixture is also far from confirmed as that is in the middle of an international week and Wolves will have a number of key players unavailable.

Dinning Transfer Update

Wolves are hoping to sign Stockport midfielder Tony Dinning by Friday, so he is available for Sunday's game against Norwich.
Wolves are confident that the £700,000 deal will be finalised and the 25-year-old will be at Molineux very soon.
Chief executive Jez Moxey has confirmed that the basics of the deal have been thrashed out and he expects everything to be finalised this week. He did say that it is not a one hundred per cent done deal with Stockport County but that everything possible is being done to add Dinning to the team to face Norwich on Sunday.
The midfielder is needed as Colin Lee is missing Scott Taylor, Steve Sedgley, and Simon Osborn at a time when the manager is desperate to drag Wolves away from the wrong end of the table.

Muscat and Lescott Out

Last night's postponement has affected Wolves in a lot of way's including Sunday's First Division visit from Norwich for which both Joleon Lescott AND Kevin Muscat will be suspended.
Teenage defender Lescott, a major hit during Wolves' problem-packed start to the campaign, was due to complete his one-match ban last night but must now join fellow defender Muscat on the sidelines on Sunday - leaving Lee with major holes in his defence for the Norwich game.
"There are a lot of problems to stem from the postponement but the worst thing is that both Muscat and Lescott will now miss Sunday," admitted Lee. "It is exactly what we didn't need with other players still missing.
"It would have been useful to have got our other recovering players involved last night such as Michael Branch and Andy Sinton. The postponement has done us no favours at all."

Trialists in Reserves

Wolves reserves travel to Rotherham on Wednesday afternoon with the squad including the two foreign trialists Karsten Baumann and Andre Rubins.
Karsten Baumann has been at Molineux since Monday and he was joined for the trip by Latvian under 21 international, Andre Rubins who is a left winger.
A fellow winger, Andy Sinton, is also in the squad which includes Saudi star, Sami Al Jaber and veteran keeper, Mike Stowell.
The rest of the team is comprised of the club's junior professionals. They are: Aaron Kerr, Mark Clyde, Steeve Epesse Titi, Shane Tudor, Keith Andrews, Seamus Crowe, Gerard Leonard, Jermaine Easter, Scott McQuade, Conor Hagan, Paul Loughlin and Shane Barrett.

19th September 2000

Match Called Off

Wolves match against Grimsby Town was called off 90 minutes before kick off due to a water logged pitch. The Blundell Park pitch was deemed unplayable by the referee after three hours of heavy rain in Cleethorpes.
As yet there is no new date for the match.

Team News

Grimsby Town: The mariners will be without on-loan midfielder Stuart Campbell for the Worthington Cup visit of Wolves as Leicester do not want him cup-tied. Town boss Lennie Lawrence will also be without striker Steve Livingstone who limped off with a calf injury during the 1-1 draw at Burnley.

Wolverhampton Wanderers: Wolves will be unable to name Stockport midfielder Tony Dinning in their side, even if his proposed transfer to the club goes through, as he played earlier in the competition for County.

Sami's Off

Wolves new striker Sami Al-Jaber could be missing from Molineux until November if Saudi Arabia enforce their international release clause.
Saudi Arabia have a number of of friendlies over the next 3 weeks, followed by the Asian Cup finals. If the Saudi F.A. require Sami to be present, there is little Wolves can do about it.
The Asian Cup Final is on 29th October and if Saudi Arabia are represented there then there seems little doubt that Al-Jaber will be in attendance.

Dinning Update

This story is from the Stockport County Official website www.stockportcounty.com, someone from Wolves should really tell them if what Colin Lee say's is right and Wolves havn't put a bid in for him!

Andy Kilner was left in the dark about Tony Dinning's dramatic move to Wolves until the final whistle had blown at Deepdale on Saturday.

Chairman Brendan Elwood now reveals why he kept news of the deal to himself and also his reasons for allowing Tony to move to Molineux.

"Wolves contacted me on Friday evening and increased their offer to £650,000. I didn't want to speak to Andy or Tony on Friday because I wanted them focused on the game.

"Tony has been with us six years now and nobody deserves the move more than him. I could not deny him the chance.

"We turned down their initial £500,000 offer and it affected him. Wolves are a big club and Tony wanted to go so he was understandably a bit upset when the move didn't go ahead. The following week, though, he came up to me and said he was over the disappointment and that he wanted to do his best for County but, when they came back in, I had to give him the opportunity because I didn't want to break his heart.

"Sometimes you have to make snap decisions. The manager understands and he will be given a little to spend but the  bottom line is that the deal keeps us in business.

"I told Andy after the game that the move had been agreed in principal and he went straight on to the pitch where Tony was warming down to tell him. The first thing Tony did was to come over and shake my hand and say, 'thank-you very much chairman'.

"I know it was a risk allowing Tony to play against Preston but I told Wolves there was no way we could do without him. He could have broken a leg but he's never had an injury in the six years he's been at Edgeley Park. He's a big, strong boy.

"Tony will travel to Wolverhampton on Monday to finalise personal terms which may come as a blow to three other First Division clubs. Barnsley, Wimbledon and Portsmouth all made general enquiries for the player but never followed up their interest with a firm offer."

What's Going On?

The 2 storys below are from the Wolves Official Site and Sky Sports, either Colin Lee doesn't know what is happening at Molineux or the manager of Stockport doesn't know what's happening at his club! Saturday the Stockport manager announced Tony Dinning had completed a move to Wolves, Sunday morning Colin Lee hasn't even spoken to him!

PREMATURE REPORTS (official Wolves Website)

Wolves have described reports that they have signed Stockport County's Tony Dinning as premature.
Speaking from his home this morning (Sunday), Colin Lee confirmed the club's interest but said: "It's widely known that we've been looking at Tony Dinning but to say that the deal has been done is jumping the gun.
"A deal is far from being closed because we haven't even met the player to talk terms."

(Sky Sports Website 16th September) Stockport manager Andy Kilner has revealed that Tony Dinning has completed a move to Wolves, after playing for County at Preston on Saturday.
Kilner said: "He has been a great player for me and done fantastically well for the club."
The fee has not yet been declared.

But Colin Lee knows that Borussia Dortmund centre half, Karsten Baumann, will be joining Wolves tomorrow for two weeks of training with a view to a permanent move to Molineux.
A token fee may be payable for the 31 year old veteran of the German Bundesliga.

John Richards Resigns

Wolves former Managing Director, John Richards, has resigned his position as a member of the board. The resignation was accepted by the board with immediate effect.
Chief Executive Jez Moxey said: "On behalf of the club I would like to thank John for his service as Managing Director. We wish him success in whatever career path he chooses to follow.
John Richards commented: "I enjoyed my time as Managing Director of the club but I'm looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead.
"I would like to offer Sir Jack, the board, Colin and the team my best wishes for a very successful season."

15th September 2000

Team News

Officials of Wimbledon have confirmed that tomorrow's game at Selhurst Park will go ahead as scheduled.
There had been fears that the fuel crisis would prevent stewards of the Dons from making their way to the ground.

Wolves: The lengthening Molineux injury list will deprive Colin Lee of Simon Osborn (hamstring) and Robert Taylor (calf) who both limped out of the goalless draw with Sheffield United on Tuesday. Sami Al Jaber is preparing to link up with Adam Proudlock in the Wolves attack.

Wimbledon: Dons boss Terry Burton will add new signing Jonathan Hunt to the squad which returned from Yorkshire with seven goals and six points, but is likely to name an unchanged side to face Wolves.

Lee Names Defender

Colin Lee has named his target to replace injured Frenchman Ludovic Pollet as Leicester City defender Steve Walsh.
Walsh recently embarked upon his 15th season with the Filbert Street outfit and has been earmarked by Colin Lee as his number one replacement for Pollet, who is set to miss the next two months of the season after having a hernia operation.

14th September 2000

Sami's Debut

Wolves new striker Sami Al Jaber made his Wolves debut in the reserves last night against Bolton, and he had a very lively match hitting the woodwork twice, two shots blocked by defenders and forcing the goalkeeper to make two good saves. Sami was substituted after 76 mins, which could be a sign that he will be in the first team for Wolves visit to Wimbledon on Saturday. The reserves won the match 1-0 with a goal from Larkin in 24th minute.

Wolves v Wimbledon Under Threat

Wolves match versus Wimbledon could be one of many matches under threat of cancellation due to the fuel crisis, because of Tony Blair (in my opinion!)
Molineux secretary Richard Skirrow said there was a doubt surrounding the fixture, one of the longest journeys of season for the club.
"There is no problem getting the team down to London. If the worst came to the worst then the players would travel by train," said Skirrow today. "But there is an element of doubt because Wimbledon are not yet certain whether they can provide proper stewarding and policing.
"I'm in constant touch with my opposite number at Wimbledon as we are anxious to keep fans informed whether the match is definitely going ahead or not."

13th September 2000

Thetis Sent Back

On-loan Ipswich Town defender Manuel Thetis has been sent back to Portman Road by Wolves only halfway through his one month loan spell at Molineux. The Frenchman was left out of the side for Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Tranmere after showing disappointing form in his games for the struggling First Division side.
Colin Lee said: "He admitted he has not done as well as he had hoped and has returned to Ipswich for training."

Injury List Grows

Simon Osborn is the latest Wolves player to be receiving treatment after sustaining a hamstring injury last night.

New Signing

Colin Lee made two transfer bids earlier this week for a new central defender but ultimately pulled out of both deals because he felt the transfer fees being demanded were 'ridiculous'.
But now Lee is confident of completing the signing of a new central defender in time for Saturday's clash with Wimbledon, the new transfer targets are a closely-guarded secret.

Wolves new striker Sami Al Jaber has received his International clearance and will be available for selection for Wolves trip to Wimbledon on Saturday, the clearance was received during tonight's match.

Team news

Wolves: Midfielder Scott Taylor will miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury on Saturday. Simon Osborn is the likely replacement. Joleon Lescott may return after being rested for Saturday's match, with Michael Branch challenging Adam Proudlock for a striker's berth and Mike Stowell could be in goal.

Sheffield United: Striker Paul Devlin completes his two match suspension, with David Kelly likely to deputise against his former club.

11th September 2000

Stowell Recall?

Mike Stowell could start for Wolves, for the first time in a league game since last November, when they take on Sheffield United at Molineux on Tuesday night.
Stowell has been sidelined for months after sustaining a niggling ankle injury, but he played 45 minutes in Wolves reserves last week and he was back on the subs bench for the visit of Tranmere Rovers. With Michael Oakes looking uncomfortable in the Wolves goalmouth, Stowell could get an earlier than expected nod from Colin Lee.

10th September 2000

Taylor Out for 12 months

Scott Taylor has ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee which is set to put him out of action for the next twelve months the former Leicester and Reading player fell awkwardly during the second half.
Wolves Manager Colin Lee said: "The players are devastated because of the extent of the injury. He has ruptured the patella tendon in his left knee before and it took him a long while to get back.
"We're talking about anything between six and twelve months and that's the saddest part of today."

Andy Sinton is doubtful though, and strikers Michael Branch, George Ndah and Temuri Ketsbaia may all miss out, and Wolves are still waiting International clearance for Sami Al Jaber to be able to play.

Tranmere: Rovers have no injury worries for the visit to Molineux, leaving John Aldridge with a full squad to choose from.

7th September 2000

Grimsby in the Cup

Wolves have drawn Grimsby Town in the 2nd round of the Worthington Cup, after their comeback victory over Oxford.
The first leg will take place at Blundell Park on Tuesday, 19th September, with the return at Molineux taking place in the following week.
As yet it's unsure whether the home leg will take place on Tuesday the 26th September or the next evening as Wolves will be playing Norwich City in a televised game on the previous Sunday.

Fine for Cards

A new FA ruling this season means that any First Division club that has six or more bookings in a single match, is liable to a £5,000 fine.
So the five yellow cards handed out to Wolves players at Oxford on Tuesday, added to the two that made a red for Joleon Lescott, have proved to be pretty costly for the club.

Sami's Here

Wolves squad recieved a boost when Sami Al Jaber arrived at Molineux from Saudi on Wednesday evening and today trained with the club as well as preparing for his medical.
Now he's waiting for the final piece of paper that will allow him to play for Wolves, his international clearance from the Saudi Football Federation.
But the Saudi star, who touched down in England again last night, is still awaiting his international clearance and is unlikely to be considered for the weekend.

Injuries Update

Wolves manager Colin Lee has had an encouraging update on his injured players.
Lee is believed to have been in France to player-watch last night during a busy week of talent-spotting by the Molineux backroom team.
And he was lifted on his return by the news that Michael Branch, Andy Sinton, Neil Emblen and Simon Osborn all have a chance of making comebacks in Saturday's home League game against Tranmere.
All four were due to train this afternoon with a view to assessing their weekend prospects, although Branch would probably be seen initially only as a substitute.

6th September 2000

Loan Haulted

Wolves loan move for Arsenal's teenage striker Jermaine Pennant has been haulted, while the Gunners are still in dispute with Nigeria over Kanu.
Wolves wanted him because of the growing injury list at Molineux, but manager Colin Lee has instead decided to chance his arm with youngster Adam Proudlock.
Lee is still keen on bringing Pennant to the West Midlands but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is unlikely to release Pennant while the Kanu row continues.

Proudlock Recalled

Wolves young striker Adam Proudlock has been recalled from his loan spell at Clyde where he scored five goals in six games, and been offered a new deal which will keep him at Molineux until June 2003.
Colin Lee commented: "Adam went to Scotland and acquitted himself very well and has been rewarded for his efforts."

4th September 2000

More Injury Worries

Wolves have more players joining the injured list, Striker George Ndah and Neil Emblen have both picked up injuries whilst playing at Gillingham.
Ndah who was only making his second start in the line-up after recovering from the broken leg he suffered in October sustained a groin injury when he fired a shot into the side netting, and is expected to be out for six weeks.
Emblen suffered a shin injury against Gillingham but that could be complicated by the presence of a blood clot.
But striker Robert Taylor could be fit for Tuesday's game at Oxford while Michael Branch could be back in contention for the game at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

European Targets?

Wolves boss Colin Lee is flying to Europe this week to look at a few mystery transfer targets.
Lee is desperate to bring a strong centre half into his squad after two poor league results, and he says until he gets a Keith Curle sort of player the team are going to be facing a difficult time.
The manager eased his problems with the loan signing of Ipswich defender Manuel Thetis, but the Frenchman can't join the Wolves line-up to take on Oxford in he second leg of the Worthington Cup at the Manor Ground on Tuesday night because the Suffolk side may want to recall him for their cup campaign.
"It's my job to turn it round," Lee said. "We have some money available and we need to get that spent very quickly, without panic-buying.
"We have not really replaced the players who have left and a few injuries have shown how shallow the squad is."

Teams News

Wolves will be without eleven players for Saturday's match with Gillingham at the Priestfield.
Ludovic Pollet, Andy Sinton, Michael Branch, Robert Taylor, Haavard Flo and Mike Stowell are all injured. Carl Robinson, Ryan Green and Lee Naylor are away on international duty and Adam Proudlock and Robert Niestroj are away on loan playing for other clubs.
Manager Colin Lee Said "It is certainly not the best way to go about planning for a match," "Taylor is fighting hard to get ready but a scan has revealed Branch still has slight damage to his hamstring and we cannot afford to risk him."
Lee reckons there could be a couple of surprises to his squad with the possibility that Shane Tudor could make his debut in the starting line-up.
