Back to Old Gold Full Name: Derek Parkin
Born: 2nd January 1948, Newcastle-on-Tyne

Derek ParkinDerek Parkin played in 609 games (including 501 in the Football League, a club record) between 1968 and 1982 and is the holder of the club appearance record. He played 50 or more competitive matches in a season for Wolves no fewer than five times (another record), in seasons 1968-69 and 1969-70 he took part in every single league and cup match played by the club. He signed from Huddersfield Town and made his debut for Wolves in a 2-0 defeat at Newcastle Utd in February 1968. He was ever present in seasons 1968-69 and 1969-70 and appeared in 116 consecutive league games from his debut.
He won League Cup Winners medals in 1974 and 1980 and won a Division 2 Championship medal in 1976-77. Parkin's consistency led to his winning five England Under-23 caps as well as playing for the Football League, but full England honours never came his way.
In 1972-73 he was forced to miss over half the season by a mystery illness which at the time was diagnosed as a heart attack. Thankfully he returned to full fitness and played in the Wolves side for another nine seasons. In March 1982, he joined Stoke City for £40,000 and took his total of League appearances for his three clubs to 602, but retired at the end of the 1982-83 season.
