Name: John Kenneth Kirkham.
Born: 13th May 1941, Wednesbury.
Johnny
Kirkham signed for as a 15 year old (June 1956).
He did so well that Wanderers took him on as a full-time professional two
years later. He received his Football League debut in 1959, and made a
good impression during the 1961-62 season when he appeared in 29 senior
matches, most in the right-half position in place of the injured Eddie
Clamp.
That term he scored in consecutive games, two goals against Forest at
Molineux and then a goal at Old Trafford against Manchester united.
Eventually, Freddie Goodwin was installed in the team and in May 1965,
after appearing in the last 12 League games of the relegation season,
Kirkham signed for Peterborough United. After leaving Posh he went to
Exeter City in July 1968 before dropping into non-League football with
Horwich RMI in May 1969.
With Wolves, he won England Youth and Under-23 caps.
