Berra Fee Agreed
Hearts have granted captain
Christophe Berra permission to open discussions with Wolves and a deal is
expected to be completed by the end of the weekend.
The SPL outfit have decided to sell the defender after agreeing a fee with
Wolves, which is believed to be in the region of £2.3million.
Hearts will, therefore, be without Berra for Saturday's trip to Hamilton
as the Scotland international is due to travel to England.
Wolves missed out on Berra in the summer after failing to meet Hearts'
valuation, but Molineux boss Mick McCarthy, who has criticised the
Scottish club for making the deal public knowledge, now appears set to
land his man.

Team News
Wolves: Defender Neil
Collins is suspended after being sent off at the Madejski Stadium while
on-loan Nigel Quashie could be replaced by Dave Edwards.
Watford: boss Brendan
Rodgers has no new injury concerns.
Hornets goalkeeper Mart Poom (shoulder) and Gareth Williams (knee) are out
with long-term injuries.
Transfer News
Goalkeeper Shane Higgs will
stay on loan at Wolves until the end of the season.
Higgs, 31, who joined Cheltenham in 1999, looks to have played his last
game for Martin Allen's side as he is out of contract in the summer.
Charlton have signed Wolves
defender Darren Ward on loan until May.
Centre-back Ward is no stranger to south London, having spent four years
at Millwall and two years at Crystal Palace.
The 34-year-old had just returned to Molineux from a loan spell at
Watford, where he made nine league appearances.
He is expected to go straight into the squad to face Burnley at Turf Moor.

Match Reaction
Wolves boss McCarthy felt that
his side competed well but was left to rue Collins' error.
He said: "Apart from the goal which is a defining moment I'm delighted
with how we played.
"We scrapped to the bitter end and they've had a right go. I've no
problems with them."
McCarthy was visibly fuming
with the decision to send Collins off at the end and felt that his players
were not protected.
He said: "There are certain individuals that I am raging with but they are
not on my team.
"I haven't asked the question why he was sent off as I thought I'd better
calm down first but I think he upset the linesman's feelings.
"That of course is more important than any bad tackles that were flying
in.
"But there are 17 games left and 51 points to play for.
"We are still in the front and it's impossible to go through a season
without a bad run.
"It's how we respond to it. There's nothing we can do about this now."

Wolves Bid Rejected
Hearts have rejected a £2m
offer from Wolverhampton Wanderers for Scotland defender Christophe Berra.
But Hearts are looking for no less than £3m for 23-year-old Berra and have
rejected the approach from the Championship leaders.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey did not wish to be drawn on any bid but
said: "It is not news that we have had a long-standing interest in the
player.
"But we will not discuss transfers until they happen."
Wolves had a £1.5m bid rejected for the central defender, who has three
international caps, in June.
However, Hearts have said that, in the current economic climate, they are
prepared to listen to offers for even their best players.
Player Of The Month
This month’s Championship
contenders for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month Award have been
announced, as the votes continue to pour in for January.
Championship:
Kevin Doyle – Reading
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake - Wolves
Lee Grant - Sheffield Wednesday
Jason Scotland - Swansea City
In the Championship, the top
two clubs – Wolves and Reading – and the division’s top two goalscorers –
Kevin Doyle and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake – are leading the way.
Voting for this month’s award closes at midnight on January 31. Fans can
vote for their player of the month at:
http://fansaward.givemefootball.com/vote?pid=2&cid=10207
Doyle has struck 17 goals for Reading so far this season and they are now
hot on the heels of leaders Wolves, for whom 16-goal Ebanks-Blake is the
major threat.
Swansea’s Jason Scotland is
not far behind in the goal stakes and his 12 goals thus far have helped
keep the Welsh club in the hunt for a play-off place. Lee Grant of
Sheffield Wednesday is also among the contenders for the fans’ player
award as the Owls too look for a top six finish.
Register your vote for the player you think has been the star performer in
his respective division this month:

Davies Joins Bolton
Midfielder Mark Davies has
signed for Premier League side Bolton for an undisclosed fee.
Davies has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with Bolton after last week
handing in a transfer request.
The 20-year-old had been out on loan at League One leaders Leicester, but
was left out of the Foxes' squad for Saturday's home game with
Huddersfield.
Team News
Reading: will be
without right-back Liam Rosenior against Wolves and so Julian Kelly could
make his first start.
Defender Andre Bikey is back from his own one-match ban but ankle ligament
damage will keep him out.
Wolves: new signing
Nigel Quashie could make his debut, whilst Richard Stearman is available
after suspension.
They also have Chris Iwelumo and Stephen Ward fit for what is likely to be
a much-changed team from the one that faced Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.
25th January 2009
Match Reaction
Boss Mick McCarthy defended
his decision to make five changes with a top-of-the-table league clash at
Reading on the horizon.
Wolves travel to the Madejski Stadium to take on their nearest rivals on
Tuesday.
McCarthy started with top-scorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake on the bench
alongside the likes of Michael Kightly, Andy Keogh and Kevin Foley, all of
whom are likely to feature against the Reading.
"To be fair, Stephen Ward was
injured and Richard Stearman was suspended," said McCarthy.
"But I think if our aim is to go to Reading and get something, then to
have all my team play 90 minutes ahead of playing the most dynamic team in
the league - and arguably the best team in the league - would be folly on
my part.
"We still tried to win the game. We had three strikers on trying to win
the game because we didn't want a replay. But it was not to be.
"We will now play a league game instead of a cup game and that's it. It's
all about the league now and we are in a good position."
24th January 2009
Premiership Bid For Davies
Wolves
midfielder Mark Davies has become a target for Premier League Bolton after
handing in a transfer request.
The 20 year-old who is currently out on loan at League One
Leicester, was left out of the Foxes' squad for Saturday's home game with
Huddersfield.
And Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Leicester have also made
an approach for the midfielder.
Boss McCarthy said: "We've had
bids from both Leicester and Bolton for Mark.
"We actually want to keep him and have offered him a new deal, but he
doesn't want to stay and has put in a transfer request."
Telford-born Davies was
considered a superb prospect when he first broke through from the Wolves
Academy four years ago.
He was rated as the club's best home-grown product since Robbie Keane by
then Wolves Academy director Chris Evans, who is now on the coaching staff
at Bolton with Gary Megson.
Davies did well when handed his first-team chance under Glenn Hoddle,
becoming almost a regular over the second half of the 2005/06 season.
But a pre-season knee injury just a fortnight after McCarthy took over as
manager in July 2006 put his career in hold and he missed all of the
2007/08 campaign.
He made a goal-scoring appearance for Wolves in the 3-2 Carling Cup win
over Accrington Stanley in August, before going out on loan to Nigel
Pearson's Leicester in November.
Davies, whose contract runs out in the summer, has received rave reviews
since joining Leicester.
"If there's a deal that can be
done that is right it could happen," said McCarthy. "It's a real shame
becomes he's come through our Academy and is a good player but hadn't
played for almost two years due to injury.
"He eventually gets fit and goes out to Leicester and has done well and
now wants to leave.
"It's kind of sad that he sees his future elsewhere but, if the deal is
correct, then we'll do it.
"I don't know what has happened with the bids as I don't deal with that
side of things but I imagine negotiations will be taking place."
If Davies does leave Wolves
would be entitled to compensation as he would still be under 24.

Wolves: manager Mick
McCarthy is likely to make several changes from his first-choice side as
he did in the third round victory at Birmingham.
Richard Stearman is suspended and Stephen Ward has a shoulder injury.
Middlesbrough: skipper
Emanuel Pogatetz (hamstring) and midfielder Julio Arca (knee) are fighting

Quashie In On Loan
Wolves have made a second loan
capture from West Ham inside a week by signing experienced midfielder
Nigel Quashie.
Following young winger Kyel Reid's arrival, Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has
again targeted Upton Park for his second move of the January window.
Quashie, 30, has just returned to West Ham following a two-month loan stay
at Wolves' local rivals Birmingham City.
The Scotland international has signed on loan until the end of the season.

Friendly Win
Wolves beat Újpest in an
entertaining friendly at Molineux with first-half goals from Jason
Shackell and Chris Iwelumo.
The Hungarians included seven of their first team regulars in the starting
line-up as they prepared for a return to League action following the
winter break.
Wolves took the lead in the
24th minute through Shackell, Mirsad Mijadinoski was penalised for
handling to the right of the Újpest box and when Reid lifted the free-kick
over, the ball broke to the defender who drilled home a left-foot shot
through a crowded six-yard box.
Reid also played a part in Wolves second goal nine minutes later, again
following a free-kick after Zoltán Lipták fouled Iwelumo two-yards outside
the area in a central position.
Reid lifted the kick over the defensive wall and although his effort beat
the diving Balajcza the ball bounced back off the post. But Iwelumo was
there, stooping low and nodding into the empty net.

Match Reaction
Mick McCarthy said after the
match: "Adebola seemed to have a point to prove and changed the game - but
I'm still livid that we didn't see it through.
"We had enough chances to make the game safe and in the end we were guilty
of some very poor defending.
"I was so pleased with the way we played for much of the game and there
were a lot of positives to take out of it.
"But it is very disappointing not to have taken all three points and
no-one is more upset than the players in the dressing room."

Bristol City: boss Gary

Kyel Reid joins the squad but may have to settle for a place on the bench

Transfer News
Colchester United have signed
winger Lewis Gobern from Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers on a
one-month loan deal.
Gobern moves to the Community Stadium after spending a week training with
the League One side.
The 24-year-old is in line to make his debut for Colchester in Saturday's
game at home to Cheltenham Town.
Gobern, who has made 13 appearances for Wolves, has previously had loan
spells with Bury, Blackpool and Hartlepool.
Sheffield Wednesday have
signed Wolves midfielder Darren Potter on loan until the end of the
season.
Owls manager Brian Laws is hoping to include the 24-year-old Republic of
Ireland international in his squad for Saturday's home clash with
Charlton.
Potter started out as a trainee at Liverpool before completing a £250,000
move to Molineux in January 2007 following a sucessful loan spell, but he
has yet to feature in Wolves manager Mick McCarthy's first team this
season.
West Ham youngster Kyel Reid
has joined Wolves on loan until May.
The 21-year-old returned to Upton Park at the start of January following a
month at Blackpool and has previously enjoyed loan spells with Barnsley
and Crystal Palace.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has been on the lookout for a wide midfielder
and swooped for Reid after a move for Rangers winger Alan Gow fell
through.
Reid, who could make his debut at Bristol City on Saturday, has made nine
appearances for the Hammers' first team, scoring his only goal in the
Carling Cup victory over Macclesfield earlier this season.

Match Reaction
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy said
after the match: "I'm very pleased with the performance, I thought we
played well and deserved to win.
"I thought it was a penalty and, likewise I thought ours was a penalty on
Saturday, but we didn't get it.
"You get some, you don't get some. I haven't seen it again but my viewing
of it was that it was a penalty
"And we were fortunate because with Richard Stearman getting booked again
he would have got sent off."
Regarding his side's second goal, he added: "I was always told the referee
was part of the field of play. "If it was me then I would be unhappy about
it, of course I would, but that's the rules, it's part of it. And we had
to do a fair bit to put it in the net after that.
"We missed about seven or eight really good chances as well."

Rosa Released
Former Hungarian international
midfielder Denes Rosa has left Molineux after three years at the club.
The 31-year-old never really established himself with Wolves after signing
from Ferencvaros in 2006.
Rosa scored twice in 10 appearances at the end of his first season, only
to fall out of favour when Mick McCarthy took over as manager.
The last two seasons have seen him play only two Carling Cup games against
Chesterfield and Morecambe.
He also had a brief loan spell at Cheltenham under former Wolves assistant
manager John Ward towards the end of the 2006/07 season, making four
league appearances.
Rosa is now a free agent after his contract was cancelled by mutual
consent.

Transfer Updates
Alan Gow is on his way back to
Rangers after failing a medical ahead of a proposed transfer to Wolves.
The 25-year-old forward looked set to move to Molineux after the clubs
agreed a fee of about £250,000.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy said: "It's nothing serious, it's something
bio-mechanical but that's something for Alan and Rangers to sort out, not
us.
"He's a good player who would have added to the squad, but that's not
going to happen.
"Alan has gone back to Rangers. We'd agreed everything with him, but
something has shown up in the medical which we are not completely happy
about.
"In a way, this is a credit to our medical team and how thorough they are.
"There's still plenty of time left in January and hopefully we will
strengthen. We have a squad of players who have been doing well, but of
course we will continue to try and bolster the squad."
Meanwhile, Rangers say their medical staff will treat Gow for the problem
discovered by Wolves.
A club spokesman said that the 'bio-mechanical' problem that showed up in
his medical could be treated with physiotherapy.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian
Laws has signed veteran Michael Gray from Wolves on a month-long loan
deal.
The 34-year-old former England international will be in the squad to
travel to Ipswich this Saturday after falling down the pecking order at
Molineux.
Owls manager Brian Laws said: "I am delighted that Michael Gray has agreed
to join us on loan. He is a player who brings a wealth of experience,
plenty of quality and is a committed character.
"Michael also brings a degree of adaptability, is equally comfortable on
the left of midfield or at left back but has played more recently as a
midfielder and that is where I intend to use him.
"He is also a player with a winning mentality and is a strong character
coming into our dressing room."
Leicester City have re-signed
Wolves midfielder Mark Davies on loan for a second month.
The 20-year-old returned to Molineux when his initial loan spell expired
after last Saturday's FA Cup third round tie against Crystal Palace.
But Leicester have agreed a new deal with Wolves, allowing Davies to
rejoin the Foxes until the 1st February.
Davies made seven appearances during his first month at the Walkers
Stadium, scoring once.
Leicester boss Nigel Pearson told the club website: "Mark has done very
well for us since he joined and I am delighted to have been able to secure
his services until the end of the month."
Davies will be available to the League One leaders for a further five
fixtures, starting with Saturday's visit of Leyton Orient.

Jarvis In Contract Talks
Wolves are in contract talks
with winger Matt Jarvis with view to extending his current deal at
Molineux.
The 22-year-old, has played a key role so far this season, despite
spending over two months out injured.
His current agreement is set to expire this summer but McCarthy has
stressed the club will definitely be taking up a one-year option with a
view to keeping him on board for longer.
Boss Mick McCarthy said on
WOW: "We're in
negotiations with Matt, his option will be taken up that's for sure. We'll
be sitting down to discuss it with him and his agent.
"Jarvo is another one who loves it here, he wants to be in the first team
and he's like the rest of us - he wants to get to the Premier League.
"As I said last week, players should want to stay here to win something
and get this club somewhere by winning something. They should want us to
get there as a team and play a part in us staying there."
December Player Of The
Month
Wolves striker Sylvan
Ebanks-Blake has been named as the PFA Fans' Player of the Month for
December.
He scored three goals in December during which Wolves collected 11 points
to maintain their lead at the top of the Championship.
The monthly awards are voted for by the country's football fans and
Ebanks-Blake beat Julian Speroni, Lee Carsley, Kevin Doyle and Kevin
Phillips to receive the award.
He said on
WOW: "I'm delighted.
"The months seem to be going that quickly that they're merging into each
other but I'm really pleased to have won the award.
"Thanks to all the fans that voted!
"I'm not sure how many other fans apart from Wolves fans would have voted
for me but it's nice to be recognised in this way.
"When you're playing against a team you know the opposition fans are going
to want their team to win and they pay to back their team.
"But if some of them have voted for me because they appreciate how I play
then great.
"Hopefully I can win a few more!"

Fee Agreed For Gow
Alan Gow is meeting Wolves as
he closes in on a move to Molineux.
Rangers have agreed a six-figure fee for the forward after he enjoyed a
successful loan spell at Blackpool in the first half of the season.
Gow, 26, scored five goals in 17 games Bloomfield Road which attracted the
attentions of Mick McCarthy.
Rangers boss Walter Smith
expects the move to go through and he told the club's official website:
"The clubs have agreed a fee for the player and Alan and his
representatives have gone to speak to Wolves.
"As long as they reach agreement, the move will be finalised in due course
but they have to talk first.
"Mick McCarthy has done a terrific job down there. Last season was
disappointing for them but they've settled down this year.
"After missing out on a promotion place, they're doing well and look to be
the favourites to go up to the Premiership as they've got a fair gap at
the top of the league now.
"I don't want to pre-empt anything but it certainly looks as though
they'll get promotion and Alan has an opportunity to join a club on the
up. It would be a good move for him."

4th Round Draw
If Wolves beat Birmingham in
the FA Cup they have drawn Premier League Middlesbrough at Molineux.
The match will take place on the weekend of 24th or 25th January.
Match Postponed
This afternoons 3rd Round FA
Cup tie at Birmingham City has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.
There was a pitch inspection
at 11.45am by referee Howard Webb and although the pitch had been
protected by two frost covers, parts of the pitch were playable but other
parts were considered as dangerous and in the interests of player safety
referee Webb decided to postpone the game.
Birmingham have now announced they will be fitting under-soil heating in
the summer, few months to late for Wolves fans, and a disgrace when
Non-League teams worked all night with volunteers to get their pitches
playable.
The match has been rescheduled
for Tuesday 13th January, weather permitting!!

Team News
Birmingham: welcome
Nigel Quashie, Gary McSheffrey and Stephen Kelly back into the squad after
injury and illness.
Damien Johnson suffered no ill effects from playing 90 minutes twice over
Christmas on his first-team comeback following a long injury lay-off.
Wolves: Michael
Mancienne has been recalled from his loan spell at Molineux by Chelsea,
forcing at least one change.
David Edwards is the only new injury doubt for Mick McCarthy's team.
Mancienne Loan Over
Wolves have confirmed that
on-loan defender Michael Mancienne has returned to parent club Chelsea.
He had been due to stay at Molineux until the end of January after
extending his deal last week.
But with Chelsea struggling with injuries, and Brazilian Alex repeatedly
linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this month, coach Luiz Felipe
Scolari has chosen to recall him to London.
Mancienne is now expected to play some part in Saturday's home FA Cup
third-round tie against Southend.
He made 10 appearances for Wolves during his time at Molineux.
Gow Talks Confirmed
Rangers manager Walter Smith
has confirmed Championship side Wolves have made an approach for forward
Alan Gow.
A fee has yet to be agreed for the 26-year-old, who has spent the first
half of the season on loan at Blackpool.
But Gow appears to have no future at Ibrox after making only two
appearances for the Gers since joining from Falkirk in June 2007.
Smith told the club website: "We have had an inquiry from Wolves for Alan
Gow and negotiations are ongoing."
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy, a long-standing admirer of Gow, had a bid for
him rejected by Falkirk in January 2007.
But he has now followed up his interest with a fresh approach after seeing
Gow catch the eye in the Championship this season, scoring five goals in
17 appearances for the Seasiders.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey confirmed that talks over Gow's future
were ongoing.
